Day, Gold Hill, announce the engagement of their daugh ter. Sharon, to Marine Corporal John D. Elfrink, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Elfrink, Centerville, Ohio. Miss Day is a senior at Crater High school majoring in busi ness. Mr. Elfrink is serving with the U. S. Marine Corps and is stationed at Norfolk, Va. A summer wedding is planned. Workshop Session Held by Gardeners Phoenix Twenty-three mem bers attended the Christmas "Do-it-yourself" workshop and gift exchange which were, the fea tures of the December meeting of Phoenix Garden Club. Man tel and table decorations in the Christmas theme were displayed by Mrs. D. E. Lewis, who con ducted the workshop. Honored guest for the day was ITrs. J. Edwin Harper, Medford, horticulture chairman for Siski you district, Oregon Federation of Garden clubs. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. D. E. Lewis, Mrs. Johnny Klassen, Mrs. Mona Ferns and Mrs. Jewel Parr. Bride Honored At Shower Party Central Point A wedding shower honoring Mrs. Darrel Linker was given Tuesday after noon at the home of Mrs. Oscar Minnick. The bride is the for mer Karon Britton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Britton of this city. Mrs. Ted Hill was the assist ant hostess for the shower. After games were played, Miss Coral Hale pushed a tea cart into the room. The lower shelf was laden with gifts, and or. the top was an arrangement of a yard with a house and a bride and bridegroom standing before it. Mrs. Minnick, who has collected salt and pepper shakers for many years, made the ar rangement from her collection. The figurines, the trees, animals in the yard, were all salt and pepper shakers. After the gifts were opened, refreshments were served. Mrs. Ted Hill made the favors which were pink candied bells with tiny pink candy clappers. Attending were Mrs. Ray Brit ton, Mrs. James Linker, Mrs, Richard Wyatt, Mrs. Bill John sen, Mrs. John Pinkham, Mrs. Richard Lawton, Mrs. Lloyd Walsh, Mrs. Rod Richards, Mrs. Carrie Hamrick, Mrs. Minnie Mead, Mrs. Marvin Wright, Mrs. Edward Higinbotham, Mrs. Roy al Greenman, and the honored guest, Mrs. Darrel Linker. 4 Jolly Stitchers Elect Officers; Honor Husbands Mrs. H. Bamburg was elected president of the Jolly Stitchers club at their Christmas party held December 14 at the Girls Community club. A buffet din ner was served and husbands of the members were guests. The next meeting of the club will be held Friday, December 27 at 6 D.m. at the home of Mrs. Don Ross, Ross Lane, honoring Mrs. John Russell. At the Darty. cards were play ed with prizes awarded to Hans Rammin, R. Edwards and Harry Barneburg. Mrs. Don Robins, Mrs. H. R. 'Edwards, and Mrs. Don Miller. Dr. George Roseberry officiated for the double ring rites, held at four o'clock in the afternoon. About 150 guests attended. i The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morley H. Pingle of Prospect, Ore., and Los Angeles, Calif., and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl P. Liv ingston, Coos Bay, Ore. The newlyweds are living at 360V& Berrydale avenue, Medford. The bride's gown of Chantilly lace and taffeta was made with lace bodice having a portrait neckline embellished with irides cent sequins, and long sleeves. The lace and taffeta skirt was de signed with a double bow and train. She carried white carna tions and red roses. The bride was given in marriage by both her mother and father. Matron-of-honor for the bride was her sister, Mrs. William R. Atkinson Jr., Yakima, Wash., and bridesmaids were Miss Shar lene Layton, Coos Bay, Miss Mary Ann Hubbard, Prospect, cousin of the bride, and Miss Julie Pingle, Butte Falls, another cousin. All the attendants wore red taffeta frocks designed princess style with full skirts and bustle bows. They carried white fur muffs with bouquets of red car nations. Glenn Frakes, Coos Bay, was best man for the bridegroom and ushers were Richard Livingston, a brother, Allan Pingle, brother of the bride and Glen Allison, Gold Hill. Baskets of chrysanthemums decorated the church, and the pew bouquets were of holly and white ribbon. Mrs. Gerald Sher man was organist. A reception followed in the church parlor. Miss Diane Buckingham and Miss Feryle Angele presided at the gift table. For the wedding the bride's mother wore a blue lace over taffeta gown with matching ac accessories and corsage of gold chrysanthemums. The bride groom's mother wore a beige bro caded silk gown with matching acessories and corsage of gold colored chrysanthemums. The bride's traveling attire was a black wool sheath with fur-trimmed jacket and a corsage of small red roses. Mr. Livingston is a senior at Southern Oregon college and his bride is a sophomore at the same school. They will take a wedding trip during the Christmas vaca tion, spending Christmas with the bride's parents, a few days at a cabin on the Umpqua river, and New Year's with his parents in Coos Bay. 4 Orchestra Guild Elects Officers Mrs. Stanley A. Brown of Gold Hill is the newly elected president of the Philharmonic guild, supporting organization for the Philharmonic Society of Southern Oregon. Mrs. Brown was elected at a recent meeting of the guild and replaces Mrs. Milo Kuwalek, Medford. Mrs. Tom E. Popham, Med ford, was named vice-president, Mrs. Henry DeVoss, Talent, secretary-treasurer and Mrs. A. C. Allen Jr., Medford, correspond ing secretary. Mrs. Brown, who came to Medford from Portland, was a member of the Portland Sym phony guild for a number of years and worked on various committees for that group. Roy H. Schwieger is the new publicity chairman for the Phil harmonic society, and is at work on releases concerning the com ing concert of the Society to be given January 26. Harvey Rob ertson is chairman of the Phil harmonic board, and William A. Seibert is treasurer. Lariats rope a new spot in jewelry fashions to go with the free, loose feeling of the chem ise silhouette. This latest ver sion of the rope necklace comes with two fringed ends tied loosely together or as a one piece necklace with a tassel at tached in the center. Sorority Holds Party Old St. Nick made a surprise appearance at the home of Mrs. John Dickson, Old Stage rd. Tuesday evening to present gifts to members and' guests of Alpha Beta chapter, Beta Sigma Phi. At this time secret pals were re vealed ,and names of new secret pals for the coming year were drawn. The house was decorated by the hostess in the holiday theme. The serving table was covered with a red Christmas table cloth, bearing green Christmas trees and white snowflakes. The cen terpiece was an arrangement of pine boughs, red candles, pine cones and ribbon. Christmas candy and decorated cookies ad orned the table. Games were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Fred Griffith, Mrs. John Holms and Mrs. Bob Vincent. Guests were Alpha Beta's sponsor, Mrs. O. A. Eden and the director, Mrs. Thomas Cardona. Mrs. Dickson was assisted by Mrs. Floyd Eastwood, Mrs. Floyd Robertson and Mrs. Clint Neeley. Members brought canned goods and articles of clothing to help fill the annual Christmas basket the sorority presents to a family at Christmas time. Miss Jean Cardona, president, invited members and husbands to her home, 224 Saginaw Drive, Friday evening at 8 p.m. to prac tice Christmas carols and an-' nounced the group would sing Carols Sunday evening at vari ous convelescent homes, return ing later to the Cardona home for refreshments. Couple Arrives For Anniversary Open House Today Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Stephen P. Walther of San An tonio, Texas, arrived in Gold Hill Friday to spend the holiday season in the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Hoff man, Highway 99 North. Sunday, December 22, the Walthers will be hosts for an open house to honor her parents who will observe their fortieth wedding anniversary on that date. It will be held in the Gold Hill Community Methodist church from 2 to 4 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Walthers extend a cordial in vitation to friends and neighbors of the Hoffmans to attend the open house. After 4 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman will be at their home to receive those who were unable to call at the church. Cameron, 641 Lane street, Yreka, Calif. Miss Mahoney and Mr. Cameron are students at Southern Oregon college majoring in education. Following their wedding next summer they plan to transfer to Chico State college, Chico, Calif. Holiday Wedding Set in Gold Hill Gold Hill Mrs. Deena Deets, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Jones, 1036 Sixth avenue, Gold Hill, arrived here Saturday from Yamhill, Oregon, to spend the holidays. Mrs. Deets, home economics teacher at the Yamhill High school, will wed Albert Goupil of Saratoga, Calif., Thursday, January 2, at Gold Hill Com munity Methodist church. The ceremony will be held at four o'clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Howard Walton officiating. The bride-elect is a graduate of Gold Hill High school and Oregon State college. Mr. Gou pil served with the United States Army and is employed as a technician for International Business Machines in Saratoga their home. Prior to leaving Yamhill Mrs. Deets was honored at a bridal shower given by the faculty of the high school. Hollywood (IP) Actress Natalie Wood and actor Rob ert Wagner have set the date for their marriage for next Sat urday at Scottsdale, Ariz. The mother of the bride-to-be, Mrs. Marie Gurdin of North Holly- 3 - J 1 i 1 1 ' J- milies and closest friends will attend the ceremonies. Couple to Marry Christmas Day In Cave Junction Cave Junction A Christmas day event in Cave Junction will be the wedding of Miss Shirley Ann Peninger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Peninger, O' Brien, to Russell Berkner, son of Mrs. Ollie Berkner, Cave Junction. The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m., December 25 at Im manuel Methodist church, Cave Junction. A reception will follow at the church. Both Miss Peninger and Mr. Berkner were graduated from Illinois Valley high school three years ago. Mr. Peninger is stationed at the Marine Base in San Diego. His bride-to-be has been em ployed at the Bank of Illinois Valley for the past three years. The couple plans to live in San Diego. Auxiliary Plans Christmas. Dance The Ladies' auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, De partment of Oregon, will hold the annual Christmas dance Monday, December 23, at 8 p.m. in the Theatre at the Camp White domiciliary. Formal dress will be optional and refreshments will consist of home made cake and coffee. Those wishing transportation may take the bus at the Trail ways depot at 7:30 p.m. Music for this occasion will be furnish ed by the Vern Marshall orchestra. Chapter to Hold 0 Stated Meeting Reames chapter, Oreder of the Eastern Star, will hold a stated meeting Thursday, December 26 at 8 p.m. at Medford Masonic temple. Following the meeting, re freshments will be served1 in the dining room. Mrs. Earl McKinney is general chairman for the evening.
