o o o Raiders, Wildcats Tangle at Ashland Ashland Southern Oregon college cagers get their first chance to see how they match ip)to northwest competition this week end. They are hosts this evening anti Saturday to the Linfield Wildcats in the new college gym here. Games are at 8 p.m. on both occasions. Linfield comes here after three games with other Oregon college clubs. The 'Cats were losers to Willamette and winners over Lewis and Clark by close scores last week end. Southern Oregon will meet Lewis and Clark next week. Linfield was a decisive victor over Oregon col leg which is a co-member with SOCin the Oregon Collegiate conference. Defending The McMinnville team comes with the aim of upholding the prestige of the Northwest con Cference in which it is defending titlist. It boasts a number of veteran performers, among them Bill Machamer, Dick Brown, Jack Riley and Russ Kofford. Caryll Goetz, 6-8 giant, gives the Wildcats height that exceeds Keglers Hold Wide Leads Chicago OPI Don Carter and MarioP Ladewig today entered the final rounds of the first World's Invitational Match tour nament with all but unbeatable leads In their respective divi sions. Carter finished up the-12th round Thursday night with a 6.67 point lead over his nearest competitor, Tom Hennessey, an other St. Louis kegler. With 241.13 points. Carter appeared well on the way to adding an other title to the National Match crown he has won three times. Mrs. Ladewig, Grand Rapids, Mich., six-time winner of the National Women's title, had a 6.95 point lead over runner-up Marge Merrick of Detroit. Portland Pilots On Rocky Jaunt Portland OP! Games are at 8 p.m. Spieser Seeking Bout Telecast Detroit (IP) Promoters of Chuck Speiser, backed by Mich igan Gov. G. Mennen Williams, waited today for word from the Mennen Co. that it would spon- sor a telecast of Spieser's Janu ary bout with champion Archie Moore in Detroit. Joe Spieser, Chucks' brother and manager, blasted the Inter national Boxing commission for putting the "squeeze" on inde pendent promoter resulting in his being unable to get a TV date for the fight. The Mennen Co. sponsors Wednesday night televised fights under IBC promotion. Spieser said a network official told him networks couldn't take action to get non-IBC sponsored fights but they would take offers from sponsors. Oregon State 63-55 Victor Over Seattle Corvallis W Oregon State defeated Seattle university 63-55 before 6,221 fans here Thursday night in a tightly fought basket ball game that was tied several times before Oregon State drew ahead for keeps in the closing minutes. Seattle got off to a 2-0 lead when center Thornton Humph ries shot a field goal. It stayed ahead until Oregon State worked into a 9-9 tie with eight minutes to go in the first half. A free throw by OSC ace forward Dave Gambee put Oregon State in front 10-9 for the first time. Oregon State led 32-28 at half time. Baylor Held To 17 With the second half four min utes old, Seattle went ahead, 37 36 on a field goal by guard Char lie Brown. Then Oregon State got back in front and went ahead 58-55 when Gambee made two free throws. Ken Nanson got a field goal for OSC with seconds to go to make the final score 63-55. Elgin Baylor, Seattle's out standing ace, was held to seven points in the first half, but made 10 points in the second half to be high man for Seattle with 17 points. Gambee was high scorer of the game with 18 points. Lee Har mon had 16 points for OSC and Ken Nanson hit 14. pen-sta WEATHER MISSILES Moscow (IP) Soviet weather missiles are being launched in the Antarctic, a Soviet scientist disclosed today. Writing in the magazine Literary Gazette, sci entist A. Kasatkin, a member of the Soviet Committee for the International Geophysical Year, said the missiles are being launched from the diesel ship OB, anchored off the Soviet Antarctic base at Mirny. Mosel Ahead In Sanford Sanford, Fla. HP) Sandy haired Stan Mosel's hot eight iron put him four strokes in front of the big field which teed off in sub-freezing weather to day in the second round of the $15,000 Sanford Open golf tour nament. The 25-year-old Denton, Tex., professional, who plays out of Essex Falls, N.J., ignored the frosty winds whipping over the Mayfair Inn course Thursday and put together a 33-29 for an eight-under-par 62 which broke the course record. Trophy Presented To Ohio State Columbus, Ohio (IP) The biggest crowd ever to attend a sports banquet here watched the presentation Thursday night of the United Press Annual trophy for the nations' top college foot ball team to Ohio State. The award was made by Has kell Short, manager of the Co lumbus United Press bureau, to Ohio State Coach Woody Hayes before a cheering crowd of about 2,500 at a $10 a plate bucks for braces banquet. On hand for the occasion were Gov. C. William O'Neill, Sen. John W. Bricker (R-Ohio and the four football teams repre senting Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, the squads of 1920, '49, 54 and '57. Formal presentation of the tro phy will be made Sunday night on the Ed Sullivan television program. President Frank H.
