Spieser Seeking
Bout Telecast
Detroit (IP) Promoters of
Chuck Speiser, backed by Mich
igan Gov. G. Mennen Williams,
waited today for word from the
Mennen Co. that it would spon-
sor a telecast of Spieser's Janu
ary bout with champion Archie
Moore in Detroit.
Joe Spieser, Chucks' brother
and manager, blasted the Inter
national Boxing commission for
putting the "squeeze" on inde
pendent promoter resulting in
his being unable to get a TV
date for the fight.
The Mennen Co. sponsors
Wednesday night televised fights
under IBC promotion. Spieser
said a network official told him
networks couldn't take action
to get non-IBC sponsored fights
but they would take offers from
sponsors.
Governor Williams, part own
er of the Mennen Co., wrote the
firm asking it to consider spon
sorship of the Spieser-Moore
bout.
