STUDY OF EPILEPSY Neil Bertram, of the Michigan Epilepsy center in Detroit, was just telling me about an idea t h a t pleases me much. Each summer for 10 weeks the center sends around into the rural areas of the state an elec t r oencephalo graph. This is placed in a Or Alvare van, and is run by- two techni cians. The instrument tremen dously amplifies the tiny cur rents that are constantly being formed in the brain, and causes them to record themselves on yards of moving paper. Dean Pense will preach his last ser mon in Phoenix Sunday night at the Church of Christ. He has been transferred to a church in Cottage Grove, Ore. The Rev. Kenneth Arnold of Paradise, Calif., will arrive with his familv about the first of December to fill the position left by the Rev. Pense. Mr. Arnold will deliver his first sermon at the church Dec. 8. Ronald Linn is the name given to the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mel vin Amaro born Nov. 6. The baby weighed 634 pounds. Laurie Lee, born Nov. 13, and weighing 7 pounds and 13 ounc es, is the new daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lady. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Younger of Medford and an aunt of Mrs. Younger of California, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Car land on Veteran's Day. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Banta have given the name of Mary Ann to their new daughter born on Oct. 29. With the death of Clard Smith Phoenix lost one of its' oldest residents. Mr. Smith had carried the mail from the train to the post office for 11. years until the discontinuance of the train over two years ago and had been watermaster for the town about the same length of time during the 1920's and 1930's. "And since that letter oc cures on practically every page in every mathematical text, there is confusion all the way up and down the line. "The language, of mathema tics, from algebra on, is in need of a thorough classification," he said. "Its presentation to begin ners must be changed if the ex pected large numbers of stu dents are to learn the basic mathematics ideas."
