(International) Electronic Altimeter Reported Accurate Baltimore (IP) The Air Re search and Development Com mand here has announced devel opment of an electronic altimet er which is accurate to within 40 feet at 60,000 feet. The altimeter determines alti tude by sending a radar signal to the ground and measuring the time it requires to return. The time is then transposed into feet and servo mechanisms indicate the altitude on a standard dial. Following testing of pre-production models, the new device is expected to replace the current navigation model which utilizes a cathode ray tube for its pre sentation. The older model re quires an operator to read the scope and interpret it. The new, small-sized unit gives an immediate reading on as many as three dials and can also be used to feed information to such devices as recorders and poten tiometers. Osborn, pro fessor at Butler University's school of religion. Americans today are under a "powerful force" to conform, and one cannot be sure whether an applicant for church mem bership is seeking "salvation or social respectability," he ex plained at a local Disciples of Christ meeting. The "fear of being different is now a larger consideration than the fear of hell," he added.
