Shower Honors Medford Woman Mrs. Mary Lunceford was hon ored at a bridal shower Monday evening, October 21, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Lillie, 1174 Court street. Mrs. Lunceford's marriage to Louis Webber was held Satur day afternoon, October 26, in the Lillie home. Guests attending the shower were Mrs. Wayne Birkland, Mrs. Nettie Birkland, Mrs. Walter Michael, Mrs. Henry Lindwall, Mrs. George McCune, Mrs. Ern est Pitts, Mrs. Grover Rawls, Mrs. Everett Grissom and Mrs. Harvey Cassman. Visits Here Dr. H. A. Krause, Portland os teopathic physician, visited at the home of his sister-in-law and her husband. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Tizekker, 2116 East Main street, Medford. Dr. Krause, formerly of Med ford, recently completed a resi dency in Mt. Clements, Mich. Medford, became the bride of Jerome Arnold A. Smith, a son of Mrs. Esther Smith, Glendive, Mont., in a ceremony held Sat urday, October 5, in St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. . The Rev. John Sweeny, of ficiated at the three o'clock afternoon double ring wedding. For her wedding the bride wore a pink jersey sheath dress with pink feather hat and white orchid corsage. Mrs. Thomas Smith, Colusa, Calif., sister-in-law of the bridegroom, was hon or attendant with Miss Esther Miller bridesmaid. Mrs. Smith wore a mauve col ored frock and Miss Miller was in a beige colored dress. They both wore green orchid cor sages. Thomas Smith served as best man for his brother. Following a wedding trip to Carmel and Monterey, Calif., the newylweds are making their home at 36 Alta Way, Corte Madera, Calif. . Out-of-town guests at the ceremony included the bride's parents and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Speare, all Medford. The bride attended Medford High school and is employed by a dental clinic in San Francisco. The bridegroom attended Daw son county, Mont., High school and Montana State university. He is employed with Shell Oil company in San Francisco. Sorority Pledges Miss Susan Brill Portland Miss Susan Brill of Medford recently pledged Delta Phi Gamma, one of the three campus sororities of Lewis and Clark college. The pledge period will last eight weeks, end ing . in a formal candlelight initiation. Miss Brill is a sophomore ele mentary education major and a member of the college pep club. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Brill, 75 Lozier lane. Crawfords Leave For California Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Crawford have left for California to visit their son and daughters. They will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hal Hartzell and two children, Hal III and Hollis Ann, at Citrus Heights, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Smith and children, Linda Ann and Lynn, also of Citrus Heights. Later they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kennett and son, Ste phen, at Concord. A family reunion is planned in Citrus Heights during their stay. Tapped Eugene Miss Jackie Callan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Callan, 6 Keeneway drive, was recently tapped for membership in Amphibians, women's swim ming honorary. Miss Callan is a junior, majoring in business. AlS -Hit- 1l fikpw' . if 1 Mr. and Mrs. Donald Glein Burgess (Landis photo) Miss Virginia Lee Carter Is Bride of Donald Burgess Among October weddings was that of Miss Virginia Lee Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Carter, 730 Broad street, Medford, to Donald Glein Burgess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Burgess, San Diego, Calif. The double-ring ceremony, at tended by 130 guests, was read Sunday afternoon, October 20, in First Presbyterian church, by the Rev. John O. Reynolds. Bouquets of yellow and bronze chrysanthemum's decor ated the church and candelabra held lighted tapers. Mrs. Charles Champlin was soloist, and Mrs. Richard Hart was at the church organ. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white peau de soie with a round neckline trimmed with appliqued lace and sequins, fit ted bodice, and a hoop skirt ending in a chapel length train. Her fingertip length veil was held by a pearl and sequin trimmed Juliet cap. She carried a white spider chrysanthemum cascade bouquet and wore a heart-shaped necklace which was a gift from the bridegroom. Her "something old" was a handmade lace handkerchief made by her grandmother, Mrs. Lou Carter in 1908 for her own wedding and also was used at the wedding of the bride's mother and of the bride's aunt, Mrs. Lee Merriman. Miss Jacqueline O'Malia, Oak land, Calif., was honor attend ant and bridesmaids were Miss Nelda and Miss Relda Jenkins, Portland. Best man for the bridegroom was his cousin Richard Glein, Tacoma, Wash., and the ushers were Gary Schafer and David Carter, brother of the bride. A three-year-old cousin of the bride, little Nancy Lehman, was flower girl. She wore a bouffant yellow nylon dress, a crown of white chrysanthemums, and car ried a small bouquet of the same flowers. The flower girl's moth er, Mrs. Vernon Lehman, when she too was only three years old, was flower girl for the bride's mother. The bride's mother wore a powder blue lace sheath dress with navy blue accessories and pink rosebud corsage. The bride groom's mother chose a deep violet sheath dress with off white accessories and pink rose bud corsage. About 115 guests attended the reception which was held at the Girl's Community club, the first wedding reception to be held in the new building. Mrs. Vernon Rush, aunt of the bride, cut the wedding cake made by a friend of the bride, Mrs. Robert Lull. Serving punch were Mrs. Lee Merriman, aunt of . the bride, and Mrs. John Green. Mrs. . B. J. Glein, aunt of the bridegroom, poured cof fee using the silver service loaned by Miss Elizabeth Burr. Assisting wre Mrs. D. O. Ros enbaum, aunt tf the bride, and Mrs. W. F. O'Conner. Miss Joyce Rush, cousin of the bride, had charge of the guest book. Following the reception, the couple left on a wedding trip to the Bay area in California. The bride wore a powder blue suit with dark brown accessories and brown chrysanthemum corsage. In the evening following the wedding and reception, a buffet supper was served by Mr. and Mrs. Lee Merriman of Ashland, to relatives and close friends. The after rehearsal party Sat urday night was held at the Car ter home. Here for the wedding were the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon D. Burgess of San Diego, former owners of the Burgess Paint and Wallpaper store of Medford; Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Glein and sons, Richard and Gary of Tacoma, Wash., uncle and aunt of the bride groom; Mrs. Lou M. Carter of Sacramento, Calif., grandmother of the bride; Mrs. D. O. Rosen baum and daughter Kathleen of Omaha, Neb., aunt and cousin of the bride; Mrs. W. F. O'Con ner, Cottage Grove; Miss Dixie Lee Denman, Grants Pass; Mrs. Leslie R. Bragdon and Mrs. Elene Marmion, all of Portland. Henry Galey, Ashland, a guest at the wedding and reception, was also present at the wedding of the bride's parents and of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Lou Carter. Mrs. Leslie R. I l r i nome Kites Wed Couple Eagle Point A home wed ding Tuesday, October 15, in Eagle Point married Miss Doris Aliene Hammonds and Paul Dean Essary. The Rev. Floyd Pollock officiated at the eight o'clock evening double ring ceremony attended by 45 rela tives and friends. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hammonds, Route 1, Box 35, Eagle Point, where the ceremony was .held. The bridegroom is a son of Ray mond Essary, Crane, Mo., and has been making his home at Route 2, Box 220, Medford. For her wedding the bride wore' a pale blue taffeta frock styled on princess lines with matching bolero jacket. Her flowers were white carnations. Mrs. Robert Perry, Central Point, attended her sister. She wore a grey ' frock with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations. Larry Rodgers, Eagle Point, served as best man. White and gold chrysanthe mums decorated the home for the wedding and reception w-hich followed. Mrs. Robert Minter cut and served the wed ding cake. Mrs. Clyde Dunn, aunt of the bride, poured punch, and Mrs. Lindell Carney, anoth er aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Ralph Emmert poured the cof fee. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Hammonds wore a light blue suit with red accessories and white carnation corsage. The bride is a graduate of Eagle Point schools. Mrs. and Mrs. Paul Essary AAUW Annual Art Show Dates Told The seventh annual art ex hibit presented by the Medford branch, American Association of University Women, will be held at the Medford hotel Thursday and Friday, November 7 and 8. Local artists have been in vited to enter a maximum of two works, completed within the past two years, and not pre viously entered in the AAUW art shows. Included in the show will be a student division. All entries of oils and pastels must be framed with other drawings and sketches matted, an art exhibit spokesman said. The exhibit is presented for the purpose of promoting inter est in art and to encourage in dividual talents, Mrs. Jeffrey Shute, area chairman said.
