Discussing their native coun tries were Miss Susana Bianchi, Chili; Hikaru Mikami, Japan; and Sang-keun Han, Korea. Miss Bianchi is attending SOC on a scholarship. The discussion was followed by questions from the audience concerning comparisons between the United States and their countries. Campfire girls Paulette Chinn, Lynn Culbertson, Jackie Glines and Colleen Learn opened the meeting with presentation of the colors. The Rev. Dwayne Bache lor delivered the invocation. Mrs. Horace Doolen thanked the association for its part in the scholarship she has received. Miss Eunice Gray told of the school's library and Mrs. Ivan Lantz, membership chairman, reported that 335 members had registered. Russell Denyer was in charge of the program. School Librarian's Group Organized At Recent Meet Ninteen school librarians and teacher-librarians met October 23 for a luncheon meeting at the Medford hotel to form a Jackson County School Librari ans' association. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Jackson County Teachers' Institute. Mrs. Lois Martin, McLoughlin Junior High school, was chosen chairman of the new group, and Miss Ruth Esther Hill, Ashland Junior High school, secretary treasurer. Mrs. Martin appointed Miss Ina Freeman, Talent High school, chairman of the high school group, and Mrs. Hazel Mekvold, Roosevelt school, Med ford, chairman of the element ary school group, in discussions on library problems. Mrs. Mildred Rogers, Hedrick Junior High school, was appoint ed parliamentarian, and Giles Green, Ashland High school, chairman of the constitution and by-laws committee. Mrs. Hazel Ann Hunt, libra rian of children's literature at Southern Oregon college, spoke on the value of organizing such a group in Jackson county. A talk on an article by Jessamin West which appeared in the Wilson Library bulletin was given by Mrs. Rogers. The association set its next meeting for December 3 in the Southern Oregon college li brary. 4 Entertains Friends A number of friends called at the home of Mrs. Emma Perkins, 243 North Holly street, recently to view pictures shown by the Rev. D. E. Millard of a trip through eastern Oregon, Yellowstone park, Montana and Idaho. The trip was made by the Rev. and Mrs. Millard and Mrs. Perkins. 4 Officers Elected By Townsend Club Mrs. Thornton Arnold was re elected chairman of Medford Townsend club at the last meet ing of the club. The group will hold a Halloween party and oyster stew luncheon Wednes day, October 30, at 12:30 p.m. at Carpenters hall. At the last meeting four mem bers were honored with birth day cakes. J & I pf dgi 1-1 Mr. and Mrs. Allen Smith League of Women Voters Tea To Honor Founders and Presidents A tea honoring founders and past presidents of the Medford League of Women Voters will be held Saturday afternoon, No vember 9, in the Red Cross building on Hawthorne street. Pouring will be Mrs. Curtis Hopkins, Mrs. Dolph Phipps, Mrs. Bren Starcher, Mrs. Justin Smith, Mrs. Stephen G. Nye and Mrs. W. J. Warner, all original board members who helped form the League in Medford in April, 1939. Mrs. Starcher was the first vice-president of the original League and Mrs. Phipps and Mrs. Warner were on the nomi nating committee. Mrs. Richard Pedley and Mrs. Fred Carr are co-chairmen for the event. Members of the Med fcl d High school music depart ment will entertain under the direction of Lynn Sjolund. League publications and na tional and local committee items will also be available for study. She said the League will espe cially welcome ail new members and others interested in joining the group. The event will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. No reservation is necessary to attend. Mrs. Collins said the commit tee hopes to include all former members and founders in invita tions to attend the tea and would welcome information concerning women formerly active in the League. Home Ceremony , Weds Local Couple Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stephen Sands are making their home at 716 West Main street, Med ford, following their wedding Saturday, October 19, at the home of the grandparents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Ander son, 1029 Court street. The Rev. Dexter Williams of the Central Avenue Church , of Christ officiated at the seven thirty o'clock evening wedding attended by 25 relatives and friends. The bride is the former Miss Dianna Lee Anderson, daughter of Mrs. Anthony Carvallho of Bremerton, Wash., and Halat Anderson, Keno, Ore. The bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl L. Sands, Route 1, Box 576, Central Point. The bride, gjveS in marriage by her grandfather, wore a blue frock with short veil and she carried a bouquet of white car nations. Miss Janet Sands, sister of the bridegroom, who attended the bride, wore a blue dress. Larry Sands served as best man for his brother. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the Ander son home. The bride attended Medford High school. The bridegroom at tended Crater High school and is employed by Jack Speers Log ging company. Newlyweds To Reside In Brookings Star of the Sea Catholic church in Brookings was the setting last month for the wed ding of Miss Shirley Bowlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Bowlin of that city, and Allen Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Smith, 3455 Jack sonville highway, Medford. The Rev. James Harris offi ciated at the noon nuptial mass. The double ring ceremony was performed on Saturday, Septem ber 14. Mr. Bowlin escorted his daughter to the altar. For her wedding the bride wore a white lace over satin gown and her fingtertip length veil was held by a tiara of pearls and lace. She carried a white orchid on a prayer book. Miss Diana Bowlin was honor attendant for her sister. Other attendants were Miss Sharon Bowlin, another sister, and Mrs. Gerald True, Medford. - Joan Wimberly was flower girl for her aunt. The attendants wore ballerina length dresses of powder blue net over satin. They had white flowers in their hair which held blue net shoulder length veils and they carried bouquets of pink carnations and yellow mari golds. Gerald True, Medford, served as1 best man, and groomsmen were Robert Bowlin and Gary Bowlin, brothers of the bride. Gary Wimberly, F. V. Stein mitz and Dr. E. F. Bowlin seat ed the guests. Miss Evelyn Munley was or ganist and accompanied Mrs. Dudley Fabrick, Rogue River, Robert Bowlin, and Mrs. Wil liam Shipley, who sang. . For . her daughter's wedding Mrs. Bowlin chose a rose col ored dress with white acces sories. Mrs. Smith chose a blue lace frock with black acces sories. They both wore gardenia corsages. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the parish hall at the church. For their wedding trip the newlyweds traveled to Canada. They are now making their home in Brookings. For her traveling attire the bride chose a . black and white wool suit with black accessories and an orchid corsage. Out-of-town guests attending the ceremony were the parents of the bridegroom, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald True, all Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harris and son, Myrtle Point, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson, all Gold Hill, Mrs. Jack Simcox, Grants Pass, Mr. ant; Mrs. Gus Nowak, Cot tage Grove, Mr., and Mrs. Dud ley Fabrick and son, Rogue River, and Gary Bowlin, Mount Angel. Community Projects Planned at Meeting Mrs. Robert Van Laningham, 2211 Capital avenue, was host ess to the first meeting of the Welcome Wagon Sewing club Tuesday evening. Plans to par ticipate in a community project were discussed as a part of the Welcome Wagon program. The next meeting will be November 12 at the home of Mrs. Ed Reitz enstein, 25 Willamette avenue, at 8 p.m. Welcome Wagon in vites newcomers to attend. ' To Elect Election of officers will be held at the Monday, October 28, meeting of the Licensed Practi cal Nurses meeting. It will meet at Sacred Heart hospital at 7:30 p.m. Sojourners Club j Plan Fall Dance The Girls Community club was decorated with Halloween colors at the Thursday afternoon Sojourners' meeting. Fifty-six women and guests, attended. Mrs. Floyd Robertson presid ed at the business meeting and lead the group in making plans for the fall dinner dance. Mrs. Earl Nelson was appointed chairman for the dance com mittee. Cards filled in the rest of the afternoon, bridge, pinochle and canasta being played. New members were intro duced. Those attending included Mrs. Dwight Crossier, Mrs. Don ald E. Walters, Mrs. Gaylord Hay, Mrs. Evertt C. Robinson and Mrs. John Mast. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Allen Curry, Mrs. Phillip Dopp and Mrs. Alex Collins. One out-of-town guest was present, Mrs. Geneva Scott from Bakersfield, Calif. One Medford guest was Mrs. Clar ence Conner. College Teacher Heard by Group Dr. Howard Hillerrhan, a member of the bio-chemistry department of Oregon State col lege, Corvallis, spoke Monday evening October 21, at the monthly meeting of the Natural Foods associates. His topic was "Chemical Additives in Our Food." Verne Shangle reported on Washington state meeting in Ser attle October 14, and Miss Anna Streed spoke conerning "how to eat for a healthy heart." Several items relating to food and' its production were dis cussed.
