Character Actor O'Connell Admits He Dated Miss Hamilton in Europe By VERNON SCOTT United Presi Hollywood Writer Hollywood OP) Grayhaired character actor Arthur O'Con nell happily admits he squired Sonia Hamilton, this year's Miss England, in .Monte Carlo and movieland and hopes he is the man to whom Sonia has lost her heart, Senia, a statuesque blonde with a roller-coaster figure, told English newsmen this week: "I've fallen in love with some one in Hollywood," but refused to name the man. Because of her new - found love, Sonia plans to return to the movie capital. "There's no way for me to know if , I'm the lucky guy," O'Connell confided. "But I must admit she seemed attracted to me." A homespun kind of guy in his late 40s, bachelor O'Connell is best remembered for his role opposite Rosalind Russell in "Picnic." v M I met Sonia in Monte Carlo and took her to her first gala," he said. "The party was thrown by Princess Grace last summer for the benefit of the Red Cross. It was quite an affair. "There was a sumptuous din ner at the casino followed by entertainment and fireworks. After that I saw quite a bit of Sonia. I even got her a small ( part in "The Monte Carlo Story,' a picture I was working in at the time. "When she turned up out here for the Miss Universe contest I was delighted. We started dating again." Arthur admits he's no dash ing lover-boy type, but he did date Kathy Grant, the sprightly brunette cutie who once was Bing Crosby's girl friend. He's also appeared with more film queens than most of Holly wood's leading men. "I worked with Marilyn Mon roe in 'Bus Stop, Kim Novak in 'nic,' Shirley Jones in 'April Love,' Marlene Dietrich in The Monte Carlo Story,' and Judy Holiday in The Solid Gold Cadillac,' among others," he said. "But I'd never thought of my self as a romantic character. I figure the glamour girls think of me more as the fatherly type, i sense of humor and pals around It gives me a good insight i with the rest of the cast and into what makes them tick. They aren't wearing their party man ners or trying to impress anyone when they talk to me. Marilyn an Actress "Marilyn is so intensely in terested in her acting techniques on a set she rarely has time for chit-chat. It takes up all her time. Kim, on the other hand, is nervous and unsure of herself. She always stays to herself. Marlene is good company one of the guys. She has a great crew during a picture." O'Connell currently is work ing with Julie London in Universal-International's "How Lonely the Night." He describes her as aloof. Getting back to his fling with 24-year-old Sonia, O'Connell con cluded: "If I'm the guy she's coming back to see, you can bet we will be dating again. She is a very lovely girl. Placed third in the contest, you know." Experts Studying Four Murder Slugs Chicago (in Ballistics ex perts studied four bullets taken from the dismembered head of Judith Mae Anderson in an ef fort to identify the death weapon. The bullets were the first solid clue in the gruesome mur der of Judith Mae, whose but chered body was found in two oil drums floating in a Lake Michigan harbor. Meanwhile, the Chicago Trib une offered $50,000 for infor mation leading to the killer's ar rest and conviction, "and the Robert O. Lw Co., v. here the victim's father is employed, of fered a $1,000 reward. Cause of Death Dr. Victor Levine, coroner's pathologist, said that an autopsy showed four bullets in the girl's head and "two of them entered the brain and were the cause of death." A third bullet was imbedded in Judith Mae's neck and a fourth in the fleshy side of her jaw. One bullet was spljt. Authorities said the bullets appeared to have come from a .32 caliber pistol, but intensive tests were scheduled to deter mine markings and possibly es tablish the exact make and model of the death gun. Levine refused to comment on how long Judith Mae had been dead before her torso was found in an oil drum last Thursday and her head, arms and hands were found in anoth er oil can Saturday. Judith Mae disappeared the night of Aug. 16 after leaving the home of a girl friend for her own home about eight blocks away. ; Coroner Walter McCarron slated the opening of an inquest into the murder this morning. However, he indicated there probably would be little new in the way of medical findings re ported at the session. McCarron said a complete re port on the post-mortem exami nation of the body would re quire about two weeks. Hundreds of police pressed a search in the victim's West Side neighborhood seeking possible clues and checked out hundreds of telephone tips. Russell said pool construction is enjoying its biggest boom. In lfo6, he said, approximately 25,000 pools were built in the U. S., all but about 2,000 of them privately. More than 50,000 will be built this year about 43,500 private and 6,500 public. At least 50 per cent of the public pools are built without the professional guidance of reg istered architects and engineers, Russell said. He said reputable builders know that the well-designed, trouble-free pool is more than a simple matter of digging a hole, lining it with some material and filling it with water. Russell said communities should analyze their needs care fully and build accordingly, with modern filtration, re-circulation and chlorination equipment.
