Dr. Arthur Kreisman of South ern Oregon college spoke on the topic "The Thirty-One Com mandments of Andreus Cappel lanus." a review of the code of courtly love. The lecture was held in the Ashland library as sembly room. Dr. Kreisman is president of the Northwest conference of Teachers of English which will meet in Ashland the third week of the festival. He has also con ducted a popular television lec ture series. Dr. Kreisman. whose efforts were vital to the develop ment of the humanities studies at Southern Oregon college, was also instrumental in establish ing the close collaboration be tween the college and the insti tute, it is said. Dr. Kreisman traced the his tory of courtly love from its starting point in India and the Orient. He said that by Shake speare's time it had become a mild code of gallantry, but ex tremely important as an element in social training. The lecture showed the strong influences of courtly love in Shakespeare's plays, with particular emphasis on its effects in this season's plays. day. Keep up-to-date magazines in beauty shops. Footlighter Play Has Newcomers A number of "new faces" are seer, in the bast of "Mr. Angel," Footlighter summer snow which is currently running at the Fair grounds theater. Tickets for the play, which opened Tuesday and continues through Saturday night, are on sale at Puruckers, Swem's and at the box office. Gary Heilsberg, who plays the title roe, is a drama and journal ism major at Whitworth college, Spokane, and is working this summer for the Ashland Tid ings. He is writing a three-act play for production next spring at Whitworth, and will tour in a college production of "The Vigil" upon completion of his senior year. Three others making their Footlighter acting debuts with this play are Margaret Dix, wife of Dr. Paul Dix, who carries the role of a playwright; Claire Flickinger, who plays the part of VIA (Very Important Angel) and who has had dramatic ex perience in Calfornia, and Don na Nelson who is cast as Pearl, "proficient angel trumpter." CONTEST ENDS IN TWO WEEKS. - '- Camp Fire Girls Home From Trip To Lassen Park Christy Allingham, Mary Mar garet Barr, Linda Medcalf , Dayle Hesheim, Janice Taylor and Ann Younger of the Ayuzunta Camp Fire group have returned from a week of camping and hiking in Lassen park. The group camped at Summit lake and at Echo and Lower Twin lakes in the more remote part of the park. They back-packed their gear and de hydrated food for the week. In addition to the usual camp ing "housework," the girls spent the week fishing, swimming and taking 'short hikes to nearby lakes. Several deer visited their camp each' day. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Younger accompanied the girls. Two weeks before the camp ing trip, the girls went on an overnight hike on the Mt. Mc Loughlin trail to test pack boards, equipment and types of food to be used on the trip.
