My husband thinks Si's very, very funny when he jgallg me boy crazy, but he is Sabotaging my efforts to help Barbara toward a happier youth gban I had. Barbara Is a lot like I was arVin T was voune. She's a little hy and not very aggressive. J've watched her at parties in our home and she's often a vallflower. She needs lots of en ouragement something I nev er got in my home. My parents didn't want me to date until I was 18. By that time most of my friends had een going out for years. I didn't know how to act with a oy and my life was miserable because I had very few friends. I didn't marry until I was 28 im my opinion much too late an age for girl- I wouldn't want arbara to go through all those ipnely years. I want Barbara to realize that she's got to get on the ball 4f she want's to be married by the time she's 21 the right age 8lr marriage for a girl. ili Sanford is right. gloria is "off the beam." There tfe a great difference between encouraging a young girl to tve pleasant social relations With both sexes and putting her S a desperate race to seize a Sgusband by a given deadline. , Gloria should realize that ihere is no set "right age" for carriage for either a boy or a girl. Many youthful marriages are all wrong and many , later snes are fine. It is not necessary o be lonely up until the time an individual marries. , 'Gloria could have passed the i years between 21 and 28 very profitably and happily if she did not have so many anxieties about getting married. She could have developed friend ships and interests which would have enlarged her life and made her a happier woman and better mother than she now is. Gloria now insists on reliving her anxieties through her daugh ter If she succeeds in impos ing these on Barbara, she will only make the girl as unhappy as she, was. If sue wants to help her daughter, Gloria can quietly en courage the girl to participate in clubs and social events at school, church and in the com munity. Dates will come natur ally if Barbara is natural and does not become frozen by fears instilled by her mother. Most importantly, this is a season when a coat is often a cape or at least, cape-conscious in design. The . full, full coat comes into its own, either as a real cape, sleeveless and with armhole slits in its graceful folds, or as a pyramid shape with cape sleeves or back. The real cape appears in straight-flowing or cocoon de signs, in topper to full lengths. Slim coats, too, show the pretty and prevalent influence of the cape. Wrap' or clutch styles look relaxed but regal with cape-effect dropped shoul der lines or cape-like dolman sleeves and full backs. Make Collar News Betwixt-and-between coats, neither slim nor full, get new impetus from the cape. These coats have flat, slim fronts, often with little neckline ties, and cape fullness in the back. Then of course there's the cape collar, topping a full coat or lending width to many an otherwise slender silhouette. Conversely, full-flaring capes sometimes have only the dain tiest and tiniest of collors. Continuing in the news is the coat with high-placed detail, front or back. Generally, the back of the coat gets the soft ening detail, while the front' stays slender.
