Clinton. Term. Clinton High School Principal D. J. BriMain Jr., disclosing that Alfred Williams, Negro senior in the recently integrated school, has been suspended for threatening a white boy with a knife: "Anybody who pulls a knife in this school will receive the same kind of punishment." Washington Atty. Gen. George F.- McCanless of Tennessee, charging that proposed civil rights legislation would alienate people whose "good sense and good will" are needed to solve the race relations problem: "It is with these good people white and colored that the solution of today's difficulties rest. Offend or seek to coerce any appreciable number of them and the day of solution is postponed and the solution itself imperiled." Boston Patrolman Daniel Shea, describing a. Tlce raid In which a man, two divorcees and a capuchin monkey named Elvis Cabidae were seised: "Elvis was the only one decently dressed." Washington Rep. Walter Norblad (R-Ore.), applauding the Army's ban of alcoholic beverages, including 3.2 beer, for reserv ists and National Guardsmen taking six month's active duty train ing if they are under 18V4 years old: It was just wide open and that's wrong. I don't think that at the formative age of 17 they ought to be selling beer to those kids." Commander Robert F. Barber, U. S. Coast Guard, said that "fatalities from outboard mo torboat accidents ranged from 36 in 1952 to 190 in 1956," show ing a steady increase each year. He called the increase of 39 per cent in such deaths in 1956 over 1955 "a matter of grave con cern." Most of the casualties, Barber added, are caused by ignorance, foolish or careless operation, or reckless disregard of the sim plest rules of seamanship and common sense. "They just never should have happened, and therefore the cas ualty rate is far too high every year for the degree of hazard normally involved," he con cluded. - THEY LIKE HIM Boston (U.R) What makes his variety store such a magnet for bandits, John Lasker doesn't know. But in the past 20 years he has been held up and robbed 10 times. The latest two rob beries occurred within four days of each other. Historic Tree Gets Too Big for Its Roots San Juan Bautista, Calif. (U.R) An historic tree just got too big fdr its roots and fell victim to its own fame. ' The tree, a 100-foot blue gum, was planted near the historic Castro house, an adobe hacienda dating back to the days of the Spanish dominion over Cali fornia. State park authorities decided to remove the towering tree be cause it was sending out roots undermining the foundation of the ancient dwelling and its root system was no longer strong enough to support the trunk properly. Many Firms Using Atomic Energy Data Chicago (U.R) More than 1,100 business firms and organ izations are using restricted data furnished by the Atomi Energy Commission, according to a study made by Commerce Clear- o ing House, national reporting authority on tax and busuiesj law. Under the system, the AEC issues access permits" to qual ified firms. Nearly half the ac cess permits give the holders what is known as "secret re stricted" data. CCH said this is an indica tion of the commission's high degree cf cooperation with bus iness. Included among the permit re cipients are business firms, ac countants, chemists, city and state agencies, engineers, health boards, insurance companies, re search organizations, trade as sociations and utilities. Among the 27 categories eT information furnished are radi ation and radio chemistry, sep aration processes for plutonium and uranium, controlled thermo nuclear processes, isotope sepa ration, metallurgy and ceramics. radiation effects on reactor ma terials, health and safety and radioactive waste. Rabbit Ear Mountain, in north-eastern New Mexico, was named after Cheyenne Indian chief, called Rabbit Ears because his ears had been frozen during a particularly severe winter in the 19th Century. The chief was killed in battle, and is buried on the mountain. The first European to enter the Indian pueblo of Zuni, in western New Mexico, was the Moorish slave Estevan, who came to New Mexico in 1539 with the Franciscan friar Mar cos de Niza. .
