He has never had a plush uptowrr office or a carriage trade practice. Instead, his patients have included the iron workers in Minnesota's Mesabi range and the sheephearders and cowboys of the Montana prairies. "My first practice was in the Mebi coutry and this was an education in itself," Dr. Gans said. "The Mesabi was a melting pot of nationalities, and the com bination of cultures and man laKisms, mixed up with payday and liquor, put me on a busy Jthedule riht from the start." But Dr. Gans finally had his way and the baby arrived in good shape. "Ten months later, he recalled, " had a call at the same house to treat another patient. There was the" baby; "husky, healthy and eating head cJieese, drink ing beer and walking all over the place." After six " years in Eveleth Mnn., Dr. Cans moved to Dick inson N. D., and then on to .Montana wherejie settled in the town of Judith Gap. Seventeen years later he moved to Harlow ton, where he has practiced for the last 27 years. "You might call, me- a horse and buggy doctor," he said. "But that wasn't my only mode of travel in those days. I've used railroad handcars, haywagons, and halfbroke horses to reach m patients." Haegen family of Buffalo, Mont., came down with scarlet fever. Dr. Gans not only treated the sick, but he also attended the household and did the farm chores. But Dr. Gans has contributed to the medical profession in more ways than his practice. His two Trophy Presenled to Crater High School Central Point H. P. Jewett, superintendent of schools. Cen tral Point, presented a trophy to Crater High school at in as s e m b 1 y Wednesday honoring John E. Foley, a student there. Foley, route 1, Central Point, received the trophy on behalf of the school. He won the trophy in the 1956 Fisher Body Crafts man's Guild model car competi tion in the junior age division for Oregon. Enrollments are now being re ceived for the 1957 competition with awards amounting to $115, 000 offered to winners. Awards for the best models entered in the guild competition include eight university scholar ships for national winners in junior and senior divisions. est. Dr. Edward Gans, practices in Oakland, Calif. A daughter, Mrs. Don O'Con nor, lives in St. Paul, Minn. Re cently Dr. Gans and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They have 11 grand children. Dr. Gans held a news confer ence Tuesday which one reporter missed. The doctor willingly re turned to accommodate the newsman.
