Wayne L. Hays said Saturday there have been "differences" among member nations of the North At lantic Treaty Organization, "but NATO will continue to grow and become stronger." The Ohio Democrat is newly elected president of the 15-na- 1 tion NATO Parliamentarian Conference which ended a week-long meeting at the Palace de Chaillot here Friday. "It was a useful experience," Hays said. "We have gotten to know each other better. Points of view were brought out some times with extreme frankness. "Most important is the fact that we were here as free men and women representing free peoples ' elected in elections which were not in any way dom inated or interfered with by gov ernments." He said the meeting of 250 NATO parliamentarians "pro vided a great contrast" with the Soviet Union and its puppet sat ellite governments. The 21-year-old soldier was graduated from Medford High school in 1953. ON SUBMARINE Bernal A. Stevenson, Navy seaman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Stevens, 5055 South Pacific highway, Medford, left Pearl Harbor Oct. 31 for a six-month tour of duty in the western Pa cific aboard the submarine USS Sabaio. HOME ON LEAVE David D. Blair, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Blair. 1579 South Columbus, ave., Medford, is home on a 30-day leave from the Army. He completed six months of training in the Army Reserve, then reenlisted in the Army for three years. He is assigned to the ordinance detachment, Fort Lewis, Wash. IN BERLIN Pfc. Harmon B. Green, Jr., son of Mrs. Marjorie L. Green, 542 North Bartlett St., Medford, re cently spent a leave in Germany. He entered the army in No vember, 1955, and arrived in Europe last June. He is regular ly assigned as a military police man in the 287th Military Police company in Berlin. He is a 1954 graduate of the University of Cal ifornia and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Cor Mondavi other days 5:30 oreviousday phone 3-3 in Ashland Musician Dies of Injuries In Auto Accident Ashland Carl Herbert Love land, 66, post office box 354, Talent, died in Ashland General hospital at 8:30 p.m. Friday as the result of injuries received in a car accident Nov. 11 on Highway 99 near Ashland. Loveland's car collided with another vehicle operated by Elmer Ray Christensen, 26, Klamath Falls. Band Conductor Loveiand was born April 6, 1890, at Fort Wayne, Ala. He was conductor of the first high school band to perform at Kezar stadium in San Francisco and was originator of marching band formations with his San Luis Obispo, Calif., high school band. He was conductor of the Ash land city band for several years in the early 1920s and has taught instrumental music and tuned pianos in Jackson county for several years. He was a World War I Navy veteran and served as a musician first class in the Pudget Sound area in 1918. He was a member of Elks lodge No. 944, Ashland, a 32nd Degree Mason with coun cil No. 330 in Ashland; member of the San Luis Obispo Shrine club; member of the local No. 88599 musicians union in Med ford. and a member of the Tal ent Lions club. Services Scheduled Survivors include 'one son, Capt. Carl Loveiand Jr., New port-News, Va.; one daughter, Joyce, Monterey, Calif.; one brother, John M. Loveiand, Tal ent; one sister, Mrs. Leila Home, Oakland, Calif.; and one grand daughter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. in Litwiller's Mountain View cha pel at Ashland. Zellerbaeh, 64, of San Francisco is believed to be President Eisenhower's choice as the next U. S. Ambassador to Italy. Zeller baeh served as chief of the U. S. Economic Co-operation Mission in Italy from 1948 to 1950. Government Denies Wiretapping Case New York (U.R) The govern ment denied Friday it had re sorted to wiretaps to obtain in formation against defendants in the Victor Reisel acid-blinding conspiracy. Matthew Brandenburg, de fense attorney for Domenico Bando. Gondolfo Miranti, and Leo Telvi, brought up the wire tapping question during his cross examination of FBI agent Law rence H. Bracken. Bracken denied that any wire tapping information had been used in the case. Judge William B. Herlands then asked Brandenberg if he had any information that wire taps had been used. "The information I have is that there was wiretap used," Brandenberg replied. U.S. Attorney Paul W. Wil liams, questioned by Herlands. denied knowledge of wiretan in formation or "any leads from wiretapping." Information obtained by the use of wiretaps is not admissible in federal court trials. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Moon Funeral home in Sandpoint. MRS. ALLISON OLIVEH Funeral services for Mrs, Al lison T. Oliver were held Fri day at Pomona, Calif. She died Tuesday at Chino, Calif. Mrs. Oliver was a , co-owner of the Rogue Valley motel, 4701 South Pacific highway, Grants Pass, where she resided. She left her home about a month ago to undergo major surgery. Survivors are two sons, Dr. John T. Oliver, Chino, and James A. Oliver, Rogue Val ley motel, and a brother, James J. Thompson, formerly of Klam ath Falls and now of the motel. GEORGE F. SMITH Graveside services for George F. Smith, 75, who died in Sacra mento Tuesday,, will be held in Mountain View Cemetery Ash land at 1 p.m. Monday. Ashland Lodge 23 AF&AM will officiate. Ashland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith was born Nov. 29, 1880, in Wisconsin. On Jan. 29, 1916, in San Francisco, he was married to Ella Remich Vogel gesang, who survives. He had lived in Sacramento for 40 years and was a retired electrical employee of Pacific Gas and Electric company. He was a member of Tehama Lodge 3 AF & AM; Ben Ali Temple AAONMS of Sacramento and the Sacramento Consistory. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Eloise McNair, Ashland: two granddaughters, Mrs. Foster Seaver Jr., Ashland, and Mrs. Gary Keener, El Monte, Calif.; and four great grandchil dren. Mr. Galbraith was born July 30, 1893, in Florence, Col., and came to Ashland about three years later with his parents the late James and Elizabeth Gal braith. He attended Ashland Normal school. On Nov. 15, 1915, in Jackson ville, Ore., he was married to Grace A. Hanscam, who sur vives. He worked for 11 years for the Southern Oregon Experi ment station. In 1939 he moved to a dairy ranch in Wagner creek, and in 1954 because of ill health he retired and moved to Medford. Survivors besides his wife in clude daughters. Mrs. Paul Coats, Medford, and Mrs. Law erence Kolkemo, Medford; grandchildren, Janet and Bobby Kolkemo. She was born at Nauvoo, 111., Aug. 8, 1882 and lived at Merid ian, Idaho for 19 years before moving to Medford. Her Medford home was at 828 South Newtown st. Former Medford Man Killed in Accident Myron Ray, 42, former resi dent of Medford, was killed in a logging accident near Boone ville, Calif., Wednesday. A robber Fri day night held up the Marracini market in Portland and escaped with S229 in cash. Robert E. Lahalt, clerk at the store, told police the man order ed cigarettes and then said "this is it; give me the cash." He was armed and described as 25 to 28 years old, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighed about 175 pounds, blond and wore a black leather jacket. , one great-grandchild.
