Hays Says NATO
To Grow Stronger
Paris (U.R) U.S. Rep. Wayne
L. Hays said Saturday there
have been "differences" among
member nations of the North At
lantic Treaty Organization, "but
NATO will continue to grow and
become stronger."
The Ohio Democrat is newly
elected president of the 15-na-
1 tion NATO Parliamentarian
Conference which ended a
week-long meeting at the Palace
de Chaillot here Friday.
"It was a useful experience,"
Hays said. "We have gotten to
know each other better. Points
of view were brought out some
times with extreme frankness.
"Most important is the fact
that we were here as free men
and women representing free
peoples ' elected in elections
which were not in any way dom
inated or interfered with by gov
ernments." He said the meeting of 250
NATO parliamentarians "pro
vided a great contrast" with the
Soviet Union and its puppet sat
ellite governments.
