Lillian K It's he who over does the generosity. Warrrf K. My wife and I have been married two years. We're both working and saving for the future when we hope to have a home and family. My parents are not very well off and I am an only child, so I have to help them out. They won't take a regular allowance in money, so I buy them a lot of clothing and household supplies casion. The difficulty is that when I buy a gift for my parents, Lil lian seems to think she has to buy one equally expensive, al though her parents are very com fortably fixed. For example, when I bought my mother a new refrigerator, which she needed desperately, Lillian went out and bought her folks an expensive TV set, although they had a per fectly usable one. I am not against my wifes buy ing gifts for her parents, but I don't think she ought to squand er much-needed money just to compete with me. a Lillian K. I feel that it is Warren who is in competition with me and my parents.' Warren's parents do not have the same standard of living as my parents. They have enough money for the necessities of life, but when Warren sees how my parents live, I think he gets a little jealous and goes out to buy his the same things. His par ents have often said that he is overdoing the generosity. Warren also overlooks the fact my parents gave us so much when we married we have not had many of the expenses most young married couples must con tend with. When I buy a gift for my par ents, I do not try to spend as much as my husband as he be- San Francisco Woman Has Apple Soup Recipe San Francisco 1U.R) A San Francisco woman offers this rec ipe for a light clear soup, design ed to perk up appetites, yet sim ple to prepare. It is possible Warren overdoes his generosity, but Lillian seems rather 1 1 rtl&ol i n r nn tha cnKiort Her pointing out of her parent's higher standard of living may provoke Warren to want more for his own. She seems to want to make him more aware of the benefits that have come from her parents an attitude that un doubtedly irks him. It indicates a wish to hold the upper hand over him. Lillian should recognize her parents do not need to be shown "appreciation" in material terms. It is natural and customary for parents to give to their children when they can, and their repay ment is to see the children happy. Lillian and Warren can show their regard for one another by taking an equal interest in gifts for both sets of parents. Your Credit Is Good - No Carrying Charge or Interest Jewelry to Come In Darker Shades Br UNITED PRESS One designer predicts a great future for the dark shades of jewelry. "The darker tones are on the ascent," said Mrs. Judith Mc Cann. "Right now, they're high fashion. By next year they'll be popular." Mrs. McCann said one of her best sellers is a smoky shade of baroque pearl she calls "black brilliance." She combines it with rhinestone or with white pearls. One "black brilliance" necklace a variation of the dog j collar can be worn three ways. It has a patented feature Which makes it small enough to circle a chignon, or large enough to make a low-slung evening neck lace. Some of the new diamond jewelry is "out of this world." Among the winners at the re cent "Diamonds USA" awards in New York was a set of wom en's dress cuff-links and shirt waist studs in star shapes. A set of earrings had crescent moons in diamonds and pearls for the .top of the ear. with smaller crescents for the base. Another design featured a miniature "earth" watch. The tiny globe sparkled with blue enamel seas, platinum land-masses, and with the equator and north pole area in diamonds. Hussey, long time mayor of the city, was a Medford visitor yesterday. During a city council meeting Nov. 13, Hussey threw his gavel in the lap of Police Chief Don Holton. saying he wanted "noth ing to do with a town run by the chief of police and his family." Carrol Banks, who defeated Hussey for the mayor's position in the Nov. 6 election, was named acting mayor until his official term begins. Hussey said Holton and his brother-in-law, the city's only other regular police officer, have been "jumping on tourists" and fining them "as much as S25" for exceeding the speed limit. He said, "tourist trade is the town's main source of income, but it's getting so bad people are planning their trips to avoid going through Cave Junction." Hussey added that he had home steaded the town of Cave Junc tion, incorporated it and served as mayor for most of its period of incorporation. The' former mayor also said PLASTIC TOP LSU8I0 RO TO COMPLETE THE ENSEMBLE OPEN WEDNESDAY NIGHTS UNTIL 9 .
