She said allied vocations in this field are dental technicians, dental hygienists and dental assistants. The dental laboratory techni cian makes prosthetics under the direction of a dentist- The hygienist removes calculus, cleans teeth and teaches oral hygiene. Duties Listed The dental assistant's duties are to assist the dentist in lab oratory work, x-ray teeth, steri lize instruments, clean laboa tory equipment, make patients comfortable, make appoint ments and do bookeeping. Mrs. Dempster pointed out that the training for the dental laboratory technician is re ceived through "on-the-job" ex perience along with evening related-training courses. The dental hygienist's training con sists of one to two years of col lege work. She said one year of high school chemistry was a prere quisite for this curriculum. Some of the approved schools on the west coast are City Col lege of San Francisco, Los An geles City college , Pasadena City Schools, Long Beach City- college and the University bf Oregon dental schools which provides "night courses'-' for dental assistants. Completes Training To become a certified dental assistant, one obtains her on-the-job training from the dentist and completes the 105-hour dental assistant course pre scribed by the American Dental Assistants association. High school courses recom mended by Mrs. Dempster were geometry, English, bookkeep ing, typing, chemistry, psychol ogy, and sociology. Mrs. Dempster announced that there will be -a dental as sistants course offered at the be ginning of the year and that high school girls and women who are not presently working as assistants may enroll in, the class at a minimum tuition foe. However, in order- to be elig ible for the "certification exami nation," it is necessary to have work-experience, be a member of the national organization and successfully complete the ex amination. Early in the 16th century, there wtu only one Protestant in thejvorld. He wtg hfi&in tutW a Roman Catholic priest, scholar and theologian. Through years of inner agony long days and nights of fible study jp?enslv comparison of the theologians luther hod corns fate-to-face with the painful fact! 13 centuries had gradually changed the historical church into something radically different from that which had been founded when God came ta edrth and died on a hrlt called Calvary. Luther's open "protest" began when h nailed the Ninety-Five Theses s the aByeh CO door in the little university town of Wittenberg. Germany, on Octbber 31, 1517. Less than 50 years later, the Lutheran rediscovery of New Testament Christianity0 had touched the whole western world and was flourishing across most of northern Europe. Today, it is the faith of 70 to 90 million people. No one knows exactly how many ( they number because once again millions of Lutherans are martyrs, this time behind the Iron Curtain. The "Mother Church of Protestantism" is by for the largest of all Protestant churches. She includes more than one-third of all the Protestants En the world.
