r o o On The Side yE .v .Durllng tfi'stribwted by King Faatora. sVadicete. lac) f Paris All you have to do to be convinced that the female is the stronger ex Is to go on a window shopping tour with your wif In Paris. I went on such a tour and before it was completed I thought I would jj11 up lame I might have if I dirin't stnp at lh -window of Christian Dior's Boutique on the avenue mon- taigne and refuse to continue Monsieur Dior's Boutique seem- 0 quite interesting. However. I prefer to look at clothes When there re women in them. Beginning D yej know how Christian Dior got started In business? He wet Marcel Boussac on the champs-elysees and happened to mention he would like to have a dress resigning establishment of his o-n but had no capital. Boussac Is a multi-millionaire. He owns about 36 textile fact ories ! Fran. He offered to back Dior. The highly grateful Dior, whea established in ' his own place. reciprocated by or iginating the referred to as "the new took." Thie style culled for WW uae of much material.. That of course, improved the textile business of Monsieur Boassac. QDior h.n continued to originate styles that call for much mat---.erUl, Perhaps he may at some suture date originate a fashion called "The Holland Dutch Look." That would be a copy of the style featured bv the women pf Sgheveningen. Holland, who wer a minimum of five pet icoats': Millions of women wear- . (ing five or more petticonts would xertalnlygive the textile busi ness $uit a iiot hi the arm. . Dogs - A g lovers the Parisians arescond to no people in the wrld. The dogs are big shots hqcv. The can accompany their' masters to restaurants and ride on street cars. Paris has one of the post beautiful dog cemeter ies in the world. I have never forgotten an Epitaph for a. pet Kj ruriea t-tftere. It read: "Terry. Toujours Fidele. Toujour Gal" (Terry. Always- faithful. Alwavs gay.) . Horses and Woman H has been repeatedly said that "Paris is a woman's town." How true that is. Nothing that will make- the life of a female O This it the Year'of the OLDSMOBILE GOLDEN ROCKET Coming . NOVEMBER 9 .Darrell Millar Co. 415 South Riverside O gayer is overlooked in the French capital. As for example, the hotel George Fifth has a 'Beauty Bar." At this elegantly appointed beautifying establish ment women can have treat ments, watch television and be served cocktails at the same time. As 1 understand it the con versation at a beauty shop unusuauy animated under or dinary- conditions. What must it he when the customers have absorbed a few cocktails? The gossip then exchanged must be really something. Historic Houias In Paris the history of all houses in which celebrities were born or resided is carefully pre served. While strolling I passed No. 3 Rue D'Antin. In that house Napoleon Bonaparte married Josephine Beauharmais. I don't know if Josephine promised to obey her eminent spouse. I don.'t even know what she wore when wedded. Speaking of wed ding gowns, did you know Mary Queen of Scots was the first bride to wear white. Before that all the brides wore red. How do you think your bride would have looked in a red wedding gown? Cigars Had a distressing experence. 1 took three puffs from a French cigar. Not knowingly, however. It had been sold to me as a Havana. I have been smoking cigars since I was 14. I know my Havanas. I bought this cigar at a bar. I figure the bartender utilizing a used Havana cigar box and some counterfeit bands made makes a practice of re tailing "disguised French cigars to trusting travelers. A French cigar costs about 14 cents. In Paris', a Havana cigar sells for 60 cents and up. Speedy Delivery A Paris postal service called me t-neumatique is a very speedy form .of mail delivery. For a small price you can have a letter delivered in any part of the -city in two hours or less. The mail is sent to the various stations throughout the city by Pneumatic tubes. ! Seamen Oldsmobile and Ponliac Introduce 1957 Automobiles Detroit (U.R) Two General Motors divisions, Pontiac and Oldsmobile, introduced their 1957 automobiles featuring more powerful engines in addition to styling changes and engineering improvements. Pontiac did away with the two parallel chrome strips run ning the length of the hood and added a "missile" strip on trim sweeping the entire length of the car on each side. 'Accent Stripe' Oldsmobile's more prominent I styling change is an "accent stripe" that runs more than half the length of the car's side pan els between narrow chrome mouldings. It starts just forward on the dip in the belt line and sweeps downward before con tinuing through the rear fender panel to the tail light trim. "The accent stripe permits a new two-tone effect, with the car painted one color and the accent stripe in a contrasting color," said Oldsmobile General Manager J. F. Wolfram. Horsepower Boosted The new Pontiac will offer en gines with horsepower of 252 and 270. Oldsmobile has boosted its new "Rocket" engine from 250 to 277 horsepower with four barrel carburetors standard on all series. Both Pontiac and Oldsmobile win put their new cars on dis play Friday in dealer show rooms across the country. Both GM divisions have adopted 14 inch wheels on their new lines. Committee lo Visit !
