October 21. 19SB Professional Groups Return Questionnaires In Services Survey The Mental Health committee of Jackson county reported that more than half the member of nine professional groups con tacted have returned question naires in the survey of local needs for family counseling services. The subcommittee of the Men tal Health committee of Jackson county met last week to review findings and study recommen dations to give at the Oct. 25 noon meeting. Some groups had a higher per centage of returns such as per sonnel managers of the indus tries, social workers, law en forcement officers and lawyers. They were the groups first con tacted. Returns from medical physi cians, school principals, minis ters and doctors of osteopathy re still being returned. The subcommittee hopes to have a 75 per cent return by the end of the month. Opinions Vary Different professional per sons' opinions vary according to the kind of situations seen in their practice. Lawyers were aware of the great need for help to couples where marital discord is pres ent. Doctors noted a moderate need for counseling physically handicapped persons to assume normal responsibilities. Public welfare workers and the public health nurses recognized the need to help to solve problems of retirement leisure time, make friends, find congenial living ar rangements and make adjust ments to the physioal condition of older persons. Almost all groups showed in terest in the problem of the em ployed mother without a father In the home who has to find suit able work hours and day care for her children, returns showed. Family Relationships Ministers, social workers, and law enforcement officers saw a great need for more services for families who have disturbed parent-child relationships or rela tionships among children; law yers and doctors saw a moderate need in this area. Although almost half the re turned questionnaires Indicated a slight need for pre-marriage counseling, several emphasized the feeling that the need is great for young couple to un derstand themselves and each other, especially with early marriages on an increase. A report of the returns and recommendations for further study will be made at the Oct 25 meeting in the conference room at the courthouse annex at noon. Residents of Jackson interested have been invited.
