Dean Gregory, general superintendent of Ore gon Yearly Meeting of Friends churches. Time for the evening worship services has been changed from 8 to 7:30 p.m. for the winter months. Central Point Church Plans Annual Picnic The Annual Fall Round-up Picnic of the Central Point Pres byterian church will be held Saturday. Sept. 22. at TouVelle State park starting at 3 p. m. The potluck supper will be served at 5 p.m. with the church furnishing the coffee, punch and ice cream. Those attending should bring their own table service. Children end adults needing transportation or those who have room in their cars for others are asked to call Mrs. McCalvy at NO 4-2223. '.fir': i, V Quarter Schedules To Be Set Sunday The officers and teachers of the Eastwood Baptist church. North Keene Way dr. at Eidge way, will hold a meeting Sun day from 2 to 5 p.m. for a plan ning conference to arrange the calendar and program of the church and the church school for the next quarter. The boards of fleacons trus tees, Christian education, and the music and planning com mittees will meet in individual sessions during the first half of the afternoon. Later in the day all groups will coordinate their plans. The Eastwood Baptist church is affiliated with the American Baptist convention and is locat ed Just north of the Hedrick Junior High school. Pastor Starts Seventh Year in Local Church This month Dr. D. Klrkland West begins his seventh "year as pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Medford. During these years the church has more than doubled in mem bership increasing from 300 to more than 700. One of the organizations formed . at the church through 1he efforts of Dr. West is the Men's Luncheon club which mets every other Thursday at the church. It was started five years ago with five men and now averages 80. The club will meet next Oct. 4 and men of all faith are invited. Dr. West is the state advisor for the Presbyterian Men's clubs and has also been elected a trustee of San Francisco Theo logical seminary. This week he has given the morning devotions over KMED from 9:15 to 9:20 each morning On Monday and Tuesday the Rev. John Reynolds, assistant minister at the church, present ed devotions on KBES-TV. Mission Work Discussed at Meeting Dr. Eugene Gerlitz. pastor of the First Baptist church of Rose burg, led the Eastwood Baptist church officers and leaders at a meeting held Thursday evening. Mission work and the respon sibility of the church were con sidered. . Dr. Gerlitz was a courier for the Every Church Visit of the World Mission Cavalcade, a pro gram of the American Baptist convention designed to stimul ate mission interest and giving. The pastor of the Eastwood Baptist church, the Rev. Richard M. Douglas Kliever was crucifer during the Sunday services. i Church School Dedicated In Services September 16 Dedication services for St. Mark's Episcopal church school were held Sunday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. with the Right Reverend James W. F. Carman, bishop co adjutor of Oregon, officiating. The first part of the dedica tion service was held in the church and included shortened morning prayer with Jerome A. McDougall, general superintend ent of the school, reading the scripture. Arthur Lee Simpkins sang an introit and the pentitionary solo. Other music was by the St. Mark's choir with three hymns sung by the congregation. At the conclusion' of the dedi cation sermon delivered by the Rev. Mr. Carman, the clergy. choir, and congregation proceed ed to the new building . site where the dedicatory exercises were held. Also'dedicated was the large mural exterior cross to the mem ory of the late Gary Townsend Kliever, a senior acolyte and ex plorer scout of St. Mark's par ish, who died last year. The cross Interest Groups Continue at First Methodist The Rev. ' Richard H. Jones, minister of the Eastwood Bap tist church, will speak at the First Methodist church Sunday at 5:30 p.m. His address will be one in a series on "The Church Around the Corner' being conducted as part of the School of Christian Living. Other adult interest groups at the same hour include "Ques tions for Christian Citizens." a filmed debate between Bishop G. Bromley Oxnam and Dr. Henry Hitt Crane on the theme "Which .Way to Peace," and "Here's How" laboratory ob servation class for persons inter in church school teaching. A membership class will also be held. There are interest groups for all other ages. A snack supper will be served by the Shipmates Class at 6:30 p.m. and "Inspiration Time" at 7 p.m. will.be under the leader ship of Rev. Mr. Trobough. "Deep is the Hunger for Sig nificance" will be the sermon theme at both services Sunday morning. The Youth choir, di rected by Mrs. E. L. Porter will sing at 9:30 and the Chancel choir directed by Mrs. C. R. Adamson will sing at 11. Soloist will be Eddie Thomas. Missionaries To Speak Sunday at 2 Services Mr. and Mrs. Wayne C. Turn bull, missionaries to the Domin ican Republic, will be - guest speakers at the Butte Falls and Phoenix Assembly of God churches. Sunday. Sept. 23. They will speak at the 11 a.m. service in Butte Falls and 7:30 p.m. at the regular service at the Phoenix church. The Turnbulls will relate some of their experiences and tell of the progress of missions in the Dominican Republic. The public is invited to attend. NOTICE! Church School Opens The Church school will open for the fall and winter term Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with classes for all age groups from three years up to and including senior high school students. Junior school will be under the direction of Mrs. Robert J. Morris, with a full staff of teach ers and alternates. Senior school superintendent is A. Douglas Roach. J. A. Mc Dougall is general superintend ent, with Mrs. George W. Alling ham, director of religious educa tion, and Leon McDougall, treas urer. Newcomers and those without other religious affiliations are invited to enroll their children. Classes of instruction for adults, conducted by the Rev. George R. V. Bolster, director of St. Mark's, will start Sunday, Oct. 7, at 9:30 a.m. For information phone the church at 3-4591. Baptists Plan Youth Activities For Coming Week Youth occupies the spotlight during the coming week in the activities of the First Baptist church. "Tonight the third in a series of Teen Time Chili feeds will be held following the Medford-Rose-burg football game. All Medford High school students are invited to attend this post-game gather ing. An invitation has been ex tended to the Roseburg team and its cheering section as well as to the students from Crater High school. . Sunday morning the Sunday school will have rally day fol lowed by promotion day, Sept. 30. A special program will be presented by the beginner and primary departments under the direction of Mrs. Cecil Heard and Mrs. Melvin Johnson. The time for the Sunday school ses sions will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 6:30 p.m. the Train ing union will hold its third meeting on the theme "Court ship and Christ." Dr. Wayne Roberts, a physician from Cen tral Point, will conductthis ses sion on the subject "The Bible and the Body." The purpose of this week's program is to present a Christian view-of sex. All events are open tc the young people of Medford. Books of Bible Topic For Nazarene Sermons The second in a series of ex pository sermons will be given by the Rev. Raymond W. Hurn, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, this Sunday. The title for the message is "The Significance of the Passover." New pastor of the Apostolic Faith church. Third and North Central ave., is the Rev. Loyce Carver, former minister of the Apostolic Faith church in Los Angeles. He replaces the Rev. C. W. Frost, who is leaving for St. Louis where he will do evan gelistic work. A native of Tennessee. Rev. Mr. Carver has spent the last four years in Los Angeles. While there he conducted services in penal institutions, among the sea men, and on street comers, as well as doing visitations in hos pitals and convalescent homes. The new pastor will be assist- ed at the church by" Martin Girard, assistant pastor, who di rects the Apostolic Faith orches tra and chorus. Mr. and Mrs. Carver have three daughters, Judy, Linda, and Rebecca Sue.
