A SCENE OF UTTER DESTRUCTION Residents search through destruction in the i j j - wtown Cali' Colombia for victims of terrific explosion of seven trucks loaded with dynamite. The Army trucks were parked for the night in the densly popu lated area. Some 300 victims were buried in two common graves. All were unidentified, president Gustavo Rojas Pinilla said the death toll was approximately 1000. State Police Report Three Accidents On Highway 62 Three accidents over the week end resulted in minor damage to cars but no injury to drivers or occupants, state police reported this morning. Oliver Scrugs Fox. 37, of 124 Tripp st., Medford, was lodged in the county jail early this morning on a charge of being intoxicated on a public highway after his car was involved in an accident at 12:40 a.m. on High way 62. Autos Collide Fox's auto and another car operated by Donna Lou Warren, 28, of 347 South Holly st.. Med ford, collided on the highway about a mile north of Medford. Officers said Mrs. Warren's car, traveling about 45 miles per hour, struck Fox's vehicle from behind. Mrs. Warren's vehicle slid into a ditch. Damage to the cars was minor, officers report ed. Both autos were southbound.') Cars operated by Mabel Essie Mitchell, 41, Eagle Point, and Mason Howard Parrish Jr., 19, Grants Pass, collided on High way 62 near Coker butte at 2 a.m. Sunday, state police said. According to the report, Mrs. Mitchell's vehicle was traveling north and Parrish's car was southbound. Mrs. Mitchell told officers she saw Parrish's car in her lane and swerved to avoid hitting it when Parrish's car re- Slassen Campaign Has $6534 in Bank Washington (U.R) Harold E. Stassen's dump Nixon cam paign headquarters reported to day it has $6,534 in the bank. Stassen wants Massachusetts Gov. Christian A. Herter to be nominated as President Eisen hower's running mate this year. Headquarters said its week end mail "continued at a two to one favorable ration," favoring Herter over Vice President Rich ard M. Ac cording to the report, Governor was eastbound on the highway, crossed over the center line and struck the trailer. The trailer, traveling west, was upset by the impact. Oregon Delegates Will Stick With Adlai-Kefauver Chicago (U.R) The 16 Oregon votes in the Democratic convention will be for a Stev-enson-Kefauver ticket "to the death," the state's delegation agreed today. The group is bound to Adlai E. Stevenson for the presidential nomination under Oregon law, and for Sen. Estes Kefauver (D Tenn.), for vice president as a result of write-in ballots in the state's primary. Sen. Richard L. Neuberger (D Ore.), the delegation chairman, reminded the delegates of their obligation at a caucus. He said he was telling other delegates the Oregon group was for the Stevenson-Kefauver ticket "till death do us part." The delegates adopted a mo tion after his announcement pledging "full support" to the two candidates. Neuberger told the delegation he had talked to Kefauver, and the Tennessee senator "definite ly wants our support and ap preciates it greatly." Neuberger said he has offered to make a seconding speech to Kefauver's nomination. J. Howard McGrath, former attorney general, earlier asked for Oregon support for Kefauv er for vice president. He said there has been a "tremendous response" to Kefauver's candidacy. WWh Crew Jumps Out 01 Burning Plane Junction City (U.R) A Navy plane, identified as an AD-5 at tack bomber, caught fire and ex ploded about four miles north of here yesterday afternoon. The three crew members parachuted to safety. Witnesses said they saw a ball of fire on one wing of the plane. Seconds later the three men bail ed out just before the crippled craft exploded and disintegrated in the air. Navy spokesmen in Seattle said the plane had taken off from Sand Point naval station here at 2:15 p.m. yesterday on a flight to North Island, Calif. The three men aboard were identified as Lt. (jg) Gene Dank inbridge, Lt. (jg) R. W. Bogan and Airman James E. McCarty. Witnesses said that two dis tinct explosions could be heard. An engine from the plane plum meted to the ground in a wheat field, starting a small fire. The three men aboard were shaken up and suffered from minor burns and shock. They were taken to Sacred Heart hos pital in Eugene for treatment. HAPPY HARRY Former President Harry S. A meeting of the national committee has been called for Wednesday and three members of the Oregon delega tion plan to be on hand for it. Wendell Wyatt, state central committee chairman; Mrs. Mar shall Cornett, national commit teewoman and Jess Gard, na tional committeeman, plan to attend the meeting. Robert Mautz, national com-mitteeman-elect, also planned to sit in on the meeting. Several convention . commit tee meetings scheduled for Wed nesday also will attract Howard Belton, Mark Hatfield, Earl Newbry and Rudie Wilhelm Jr., to San Francisco" early this week. DEEP ENLISTMENT New London, Conn. (U.R) Two Navy divers, re-enlisted inside a submarine rescue vessel's div ing chamber at the bottom of the ocean floor. Chief Boatswain's Mate William C. Haney and Boat swain's Mate l'C Kenneth W. Wallace were shipped over by Capt. William T. Kinsella, Com mander of Submarine Squadron 10 in what was believed to be the first such ceremony of its kind. Rayburn, Mrs. Truman Dislike Photo Posing Chicago (U.R) Former Presi dent Harry S. Truman said Sun day night that Speaker Sam Ray burn is just like Mrs. Truman neither likes to pose for pho tographers. Rayburn, posing with Mr. Tru man and Senate Democratic Leader Lyndon B. Johnson, said, "I don't like to have my pic ture took." "You're just like my wife," Mr. Truman retorted with a broad smile. Third Party Candidate Will Visit Conventions Secaucus, N.J. (U.R) A presi dential candidate who plans to visit both nominating conven tions left Sunday for Chicago. He is Henry Krajewski, Secau cus pig farmer and tavern own er, who is the "American Third Party" candidate for president. Krajewski said he wanted to present the two conventions with his views which include annexa tion of Canada. ROOF GOES SAILING Charlotte, N.C. ttl.R) Now it's flying barn roofs instead of saucers and authorities "are stumped. Mrs. Frank Middleton of Derita said the roof sailed off her barn Thursday night, flip ped three times and landed in the yard. Weathermen found no signs of a freak tornado and police could discover no signs of an explosion. Brink's Trial Jury Box Remains Empty Boston (U.R) Fourteen prospective jurors .were elimi nated today as the trial of eight Brink's robbery defendants went into its second week with a still empty jury box. This left 86 veniremen from whidh to pick possible jurors at today's session. A total of 415 out of 2.000 drawn for the case now have been excused or re jected. The defense claims an impartial jury cannot be selected. Today's 14 were excused for health or family reasons or be cause they could not be found for trial of the eight men charged with the record $1,219, 000 cash holdup Jan. 17, 1950. It was considered probable that it would take two or three more weeks to seat a jury. NERVOUS GUNMAN Kendalville, Ind. (U.R) A gunman who' robbed a filling station here Sunday night was apologetic, nervous, crude but effective. The attendant at the Three Gables service sta tion, Ed Ebert, said the bandit "was so nervous he needed both hands to hold on to the pistol." "He said he was 'very sorry and didn't want to hurt me if he could help it," said Ebert. "But he must have needed the money. He took $260 from the cash register and shot out like a light" Stevenson Gives Up; Goes to Breakfast Chicago (U.R) Adlal E. Stevenson had his troubles with a TV interviewer this morning. Appearing on an early morn ing television show, Stevenson was startled to hear his inter viewer say "Thank you very much for coming down. Gov. Harriman." "The name is Stevenson," the former Illinois governor said amid laughter. Stevenson then took a jaunty walk around the block before re turning for breakfast to his suite at the Sheraton-Black-stone. Entering the hotel, an nother TV commentator in the process of interviewing Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey (D-Minn.) also had a greeting for Steven- son. "Hello, senator," the TV an nouncer said.
