Mrs. Crowell explained the most important consideration they had in designing the home was to make it home-like rather than into a jail, but still provide security measures so the children could not run away. She said children up to th-jr IRth birth day will be eligible for admit tance. Children will ho kept there not more than 10 or 11 days she said, while awaiting court action. Mrs. Crowell pointed out that children will not be kept in the detention home to be punished but because they have gotten beyond parental control or be cause the communtiy has be come antagonistic toward them. Allocated Land She said the detention home has been allocated about two acres of land behind the Foot lighter's theater on the old fair grounds. The detention will include a fenced-in plavground. a recrea tion room, kitchen, dining room and separate rooms for all the children with a toilet and wash basin m each one. Mrs. Crowell added. There will also be a wait ing room for the court and de tention area, a living room, bed room and bathroom for parents, and a judge's chambers, sh.e said. The detention home will be staffed by a man and women and a ichcf crew with living quarters provided for them, Mrs. Crowell said. Pay for the couple will be about S4.500 a year, she said.
