Benson Denies Report Department Security Officer on Way Out Thursday. Glen Cassity is on his way out as the department's security officer. Cassity has been a central figure in controversial security allegations Involving John C. Baker. Midwest chief of the agri culture Department's marketing service at Chicago, and Wolf Ladejinsky. former department land reform expert. Allegations Dropped Cassity's allegations against Baker, never made public, have since been dropped, and Benson later withdraw allegations made against Ladejinsky. It was on Casity's recommendation that Benson had at first declared Ladejinsky a security risk and ousted him from the department. Ladejinsky later was employed by the State Department in a sensitive position. Canity's Record Good Despite these incidents, Ben son told a news conference Wednesday that he has "given no thought to replacing" Cassity. He said that Cassity's "record is good, generally speaking" and that "from all I know of his 'character, he carried out his du- Car Owners Hurry To Tire Dealers By UNITED PRESS Many car owners hurried to their tire dealers today to save about S3 before a tax boost goes into effect at midnight Saturday. The new taxes are contained in a bill which President Eisen hower is certain to sign into law this week. It adds 74 cents in taxes on a new tubcless tire and 65 cents on a tire with tube. Truman sailed for home today wearing an Oxford University tie and carrying the conviction gained on his two month tour that American aid was a worth-whiie investment. "Signs of economic recovery and the happiness of the peo ple" were the things that im pressed him most, he said, before he and Mrs. Truman sailed for home aboard the liner United States. "My impression of Western Europe is that it is just as friend ly to my country as ever," ne said. "I anV sure it will con tinue as long as I live." Then he cracked, "I hope that will be for a very long rime." As for the Russians, "I've never trusted the Russians and I don't trust them yet." Reunion of Wild West Division Scheduled The 38th annual reunion of the Wild West division will be held in Seattle. Wash., Sept. 29, Pat Graham, adjutant and ser vice officer of the Mcdford Dis abled American Veterans post, has announced. Graham said efforts are be ing made to contact all former members who served with the 91st division in both World War I and World War II. Veterans have been asked to contact the 91st Division assoc iation secretary, Archie Walkef, in Seattle, Wash., or Graham at the DAV office, 1515 North Riv erside ave. There are nearly 500 species of humming birds and they are found only in the New World. The U.S. makes an acceptable summer home for about 16 species. San Francisco (U.F) Special Master Simon H. Rifkind was to decide today whether to admit a disputed water table' intro duced by Arizona as evidence io the Colorado river water case. The table showed diversion of water by Arizona's San Carlos Irrigation District for farm pur poses between 1934 and 1955. (U.R) The Federal Power Commission re sumed hearings today on the ap plication of a group of North west power companies to build two hydro-electric projects on the middle Snake river. The $213,000,000 Mountain Sheep and Pleasant Valley phoj- ccts would be the largest ever undertaken in the Northwest with private capital. Seeking authority to build the projects is the combination of Pacific Power and Light, Wash ington Water Power, Montana Water Power and Portland Gen eral Electric. Similar hearings were held in Pendleton, Ore., Monday and Tuesday.
