Newly wed Pair; To Leave Today Dr. and Mrs. Brian Douglai Stringer, who are to leave by plane thi afternoon for Christ church, New Zealand, have been honored at a number of parties in recent days. The bride is the former Jane Durno. daugh ter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, and the Stringer-Durno wedding was an event of May 12. Last Sunday evening Mrs. J. J. Em mens and Dr. and Mrs. Tho mas H. Emmens were hosts for a dinner which honored the cou ple. The. dinner was given at Mrs. Emmens' home, 1443 East Main street, and 20 guests at tended. Dr. and Mrs. B. Brandt Bar tels and Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Thorn psen also gave a dinner for the newly wedded couple. Cocktails were served at the Thompsen home on Modoc ave nue, and dinner at the Bartels' home on Valleyview drive. Enroute to New Zealand, Dr. Stringer's home, the couple will spend three days in Honolulu and a week in the Fiji islands. Dr. Stringer is a practicing phy sician and surgeon - in Christ church. Party Planned For Lady Elks Of Grants Pass Grants Pass Lady Elks are to be guests of Medford Lady Elks at a luncheon Tuesday, June 5 at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon will be spent playing cards after luncheon. Women of the Medford group are to take lemon pies for the luncheon and are asked to, have them at the Elks temple in ad vance of the luncheon time. The party will be held at the party lounge in the temple. Forrnal Banquet Held by Group Saturday Night Alpha Lambda chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority held a fo-mal banquet and in stallation of officers May 26 at the Dardanelle, Gold Hill. Mrs. Chester Jines, retiring president, installed new officers. They are president, Mrs. Lyman Smith; vice president, Mrs. Norman Oberst; secretary, Mrs. William Raymond; treasurer, Mrs. Rob ert . Shangle; parlimentarian Mrs. Russell Roseborough; and educational director, Mrs. Tom Makris. Mrs. Smith, on behalf of the sorority, presented Mrs. Jines a gift and a corsage in token of appreciation. Mrs. Robert E. Klumph pre sented flowers and read the ym bol of their respective colors These she gave to Mrs. Smith. Monday the group held a busi ness meeting at the home of Mrs. Shangle. Mrs.. Smith an nounced committees for the year. They are publicity, Mrs. Chester Peterson; ways and means, Mrs. Howard Phillips, chairman, Mrs. Roy Howe and Mrs. George Ice; social, Mrs, Charles Price and Mfss Frances Thrun; contact, chapter officers; Jonquil girl, Mrs. Russell Rose- borough; membership, Mrs. Ob erst. chairman, Mrs. Harold Adams. Final plans were made for the home baked bread sale, June 2. Mrs. Makris and Mrs. Shangle are delegates to the interna tional convention June 8, 9, and 10 in Albuquerque, N.M. (Brainerd Photo) Goodin - Pence Ceremony Held in Meeker Chapel Among late spring weddings was that of Miss Joan Marie Pence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray H. Pence, 33 Willamette avenue, to Weldon Franklin Goodin, Grants Pass. The bride groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Goodin of Caddo, Okla. The ceremony was held in the newly dedicated Meeker Me morial chapel of First Methodist church Sunday, May 20, with 50 guests attending. The Rev. J. Thomas Dixon officiated for the double - ring service at two o'clock In the afternoon. The bride wore a gown of white nylon chiffon, waltz length, with a pearl-decorated bodice. Her waist-length veil was held by a cap of lace trimmed with iridescent sequins and tiny pearls. She wore a pearl neck lace and matching earrings, a gift of the bridegroom, and car ried a cascade bouquet of white gardenias. She was given in mar riage by her father. Miss Carole Pence was honor attendant for her sister. She wore a frock of yellow net, bal lerina length, with white slip pers and gloves and a headband of white flowers. Her bouquet was of orchid colored sweetpeas. Miss Rosalie Pence, another sister, and Miss Joanne Simpson, were bridesmaids. They wore ballerina frocks of orchid colored net with white accessories and headbands of white flowers. Their bouquets were of yellow sweetpeas. All three attendants wore pearl earrings and neck laces which were gifts from the bride. Maureen Donaldson, cousin of the bride, and Cecil Pence, her brother, lighted the candles. Maureen's frock and accessories were identical to those worn by i the honor attendant, and Cecil's i clothing matched that worn by the best man. The bride's mother wore a pink sheath dress with white ac cessories and a corsage of small white roses. Richard Axe was best man for the bridegroom, and ushers were David Axe and Eugene Whitely, Jacksonville. Dr. Gerald A. Dierdorff was soloist, and Mrs. C. R. Adamson was at the organ. The reception which followed the ceremony was in the church reception hall. Orchid and yel low flowers of many kinds were arranged In baskets and vases to decorate the table and room, and the tapers were of matching orchid and yellow. Miss Marilyn Myhre cut the wedding cake, Miss Marcia Houghton poured coffee and Miss Jonnie Vail poured punch. Miss Helen Read took charge of the gifts, and Miss Evaloy Batea the guest book. The church decorations were of orchid and yellow gladiolus in tall baskets, and vases of sweetpeas in these same colors. Mr. Goodin and his bride trav eled to Texas and Oklahoma to visit his family, and will be at home in Grants Pass after June 4. The bride attended Southern Oregon college after graduating from Medford High school and has been employed at Ralph's in recent months. The bridegroom attended school in Oklahoma, and is employed by Grinnell company, Portland. Visitor in Valley Guest of Sorority At Tea Saturday Among visitors in the valley last week end was. Mrs. Wallace Brennan who was a guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest James, Phoenix, and her mother, Mrs. E. C James, Ashland. Mrs. Brennan and her husband have recently moved to Salem, Ore., from Washington D.C. Mr. Brennan has accepted the man agership of Investors Syndicate company there. Mrs. Brennan is a member of the national executive board of Alpha Phi . sorority alumnae, serving as director of programs. Jackson county Alpha Phi Alum nae entertajned at a tea Satur day, May 26, which honored Mrs. Brennan, the event being at the home of Mrs. Lucien E. Harbert on Valley View drive. Miss Beth Eskew Honored Guest; Wedding Day Set Gold Hill Miss Beth Eskew was honored Tuesday evening at a bridal shower given at the Grange hall. Mrs. Wilburn Mar: tin, Mrs. Lawrence Smith, Mrs. S. M. Christensen, Mrs. Nora Wait and Mrs. Sam Jones were co-hostesses. Miss Eskew ' was seated at a large gift basket table, over flowing with gifts. She was as sisted in opening the many gifts by her sister, Miss Donna Es kew, and Miss Marie Jones. Green and yellow crepe paper decorations adorned the many vases of roses that were arrang ed about the hall. Mr. Ness. now serving with the United States Navy, is to be released from service soon. Jeanette Schliep, ' Arlis Daugherty . Set Wedding Day The engagement of Miss Jeanette Schliep and Arlis Daugherty was announced May 12. at a dinner party in San Francisco. The bride-elect is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl C. Schliep, route 3, box 168, Hillcrest road, Medford, and Mr. Daugherty is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Daugherty, 738 Ross lane, Medford. ' .They plan a garden -wedding for June 28. Miss Schliep is a graduate of Chico High school and her fiance is a graduate of a high school in Los Angeles and of North Pacific college. He also served for three years In the Army paratroopers. McKin stry, 744 Dakota avenue, and Ro bert Verl Walker, son of Verl G. Walker, 2642 Merriman road, was announced last week by the bride-elect's parents. Miss McKinstry and her fi ance both attended Southern Oregon college this year and Miss McKinstry will receive her degree in elementary education next December. She has accept ed a teaching position in Eugene Public school system, to begin in January. Mr. Walker will enroll at the University of Oregon next fall. The bride-elect is a 1956 grad uate of Medford high school and her fiance is employed at the Muse ranch. The wedding is planned for this summer. Mrs. Fred Baker and Mrs. Wil lii Williams were cohostesses and the event was held at the Williams home, 1015 Mt. Pitt avenue. Games were played and Miss Gaye Daniel was awarded a prize. Miss White was presented miscellaneous gifts. Refreshments were served from a table centered with pink and white snapdragons and pink and white sequin studded can dles. The white cake was decor ated with pink sweetpeas. Valley Couple Married in Reno Mrs. Doris Coy, route 1, - box 868, and Ellis Capps, Central Point, were, married May 4 at Reno, Nev., in a 4 o'clock after noon ceremony read by Justice William R. Beeman. The bride was attended by Mrs. Grace Allen, San Francis co, and Hugh McKenzie was best man for Mr. Capps. A wedding reception was giv en the couple by members of the 40 et 8, who were holding a con vention at Reno at the time. Mr. Capps is a member of the Amer ican Legion and the 40 et 8, fun and honor organization of the Legion. ' The bride is a member of Ol ive Rebekah lodge. The wedding couple visited Virginia City.
