Mrs. Robert Hub bard and her husband were hon ored with small twin decorated cakes in honor of her achieve ment of being elected Girl of the Year. Refreshments featured Petit- fours decorated by Mrs. Fred Kruggel, Jr. The small cakes each had a bouquet of yellow rose buds, the sorority flower and a single yellow candle. Serving were Mrs. Oris Goble. Mrs. Irv ing Thompson, Mrs. Gene Hig gins, Mrs. Robert Vincent, and Mrs. Hubbard. Beta Sigma Phi Chapter Holds Ceremonies; Mothers Honored Alpha Beta chapter. Beta Sig ma Phi, held a formal ritual of jewels degree ceremony and in stallation of officers May 17 at the home of Mrs. C. Reese Bral ey. Candidates for the degree were Miss Rita Cardona, Airs. Fred Kruggel, Jr., Mrs. Paul Garren, Mrs. Fred Griffith, Mrs. Weldon Goodin, Mrs. Herb Rob bins, Mrs. L. K. Morris, Mrs. Ro bert Johnson and Mrs. Herb Hag lund. A guest candidate from Beta Upsilon chapter, Mrs. Rob ert Schroeder, also received the degree. Installed into office were pres ident, Mrs. Austin Murray; vice presidents, Mrs'. L. K. Morris and Mrs. Weldon Goodin; re cording secretary, Mrs. Herb Robbins; corresponding secre tary. Mrs. Paul Garren; treasur er, Mrs. Fred Griffith; and city council representatives, Mrs. Irv ing Thompson and Mrs. Weldon Goodin. Mothers of the members and their guests were introduced and presented with corsages. Honor ed were Mrs. Thomas Cardona, Mrs. E. E. Ward of Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. F. E. Kruggel, Sr.; Mrs. Ira Davis, Mrs. Marion Rob bins, Mrs. Ralph McDonald, Mrs. Nicholas Kussman of Astoria, Ore.; Mrs. Ivah Murray, Mrs. E. E. Larsen, Mrs. Ray Pence, Mrs. Schroeder, and Mrs. R. Vincent. Mrs. O. A. Eden, sponsor of the chapter, and Mrs. Braley, retir ing director of the chapter, were also honored, and Mrs. Braley was given a special honorary member's degree and a gift in ap preciation of her many years of service and guidance for the chapter. Also introduced were Mrs. Nick DeWitt of Xi Mu chap ter, Medford, and Mrs. Lois Iholts of Beta Xi chapter, Can yonville. Mrs. Nils Edin, ' officitiating officer, was presented her past president's guard by the newly installed president, Mrs., Mur ray. Miss Cardona ' announced her coming marriage in June, and passed the traditional box Piano Students ' Present Recital Wednesday Night Pupils of Mrs. W. E. Hercher gave a piano recital at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson T. Anderson t Wednesday, May 23. Students who played piano solos and duets were Carol Roach, Shirley" Roach, Stephen Shaw, Claudia Morgan, Sally Polk, Dick Anderson, Clai Polk, Donna Budge, Rosanne Legas, Diane Tomlin, Linda Morlan, Barbara Budge and Karen Mor lan. Following the recital refresh ments were served by Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Fred Morlan, Mrs. B. E. Budge and Mrs. Tom Polk. Guests attending the recital included relatives and friends of the students. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Helweg, of Roseburg, Mrs. Her- cher's parents, were also present. Medford Couple Home From Tour Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Field, East Fairview drive, arrived home last week from a three month tour of European and ori ental countries. Gleaves (Landis-Shangle photo) Gleaves-Cook Ceremony Held in Methodist Chapel The wedding of Miss Charlene A. Cook to Duane C. Gleaves was an event of Saturday, May 19. The ceremony took place in Meek er Memorial chapel, First Methodist church, with Dr. Raymond Balcomb officiating for the eight o'clock rites. The chapel was decorated with garden flowers and candelabra held tapers. Gleaves, 1170 West McAndrews road. For the ceremony, attended by 70 guests, the bride wore a gown of embroidered eyelet organdy designed with long bodice, peter pan collar and a bouffant skirt. Her short veil was held by a cap of matching em broidery and she carried a bou quet of pink carnations. Miss Lanora Kyker was the bride's only attendant. She wore a frock of acquamarine crystal line fashioned princess style. Her headdress was of : pink carna tions and she carried a colonial bouquet of these flowers. Mr. Cook gave his daughter in mar riage. ' Jerald Gleaves was best man for .jiis brother.. Seating the guests were Jack Johnson and Robert Dunegan. Mrs. Gerald Sherman provided the wedding music. The reception which followed was given by Mrs. Kenneth R. Edwards, with whom the bride has made her home in recent months, in the church reception room. The bride's table was covered with a lace cloth and the wed ding cake was encircled with weigelia blossoms. Mrs. Ray Darby and Mrs. Carl Bennett cut' the wedding cake, Mrs. Ger ald Gleaves took charge of the guest book and serving coffee and punch were Mrs. Dean Gleaves and Mrs. Vernon Gleaves. Arrangements of roses and ferns decorated the punch table. For the wedding and reception Mrs. Edwards wore a white linen sheath dress with linen duster of navy blue, and white carnation corsage. The bridegroom's moth er wore a rose lace dress with white carnation corsage. The bride, a graduate of Med ford High school, is employed at Burelson's store. The bride groom, also a graduate of Med ford High school, is a student a,t Southern Oregon college. TRe newlyweds will live at 206Vz Lincoln street. Here for "the wedding were the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cook, San Bern adino, Calif., and the bride groom's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Gleaves, Eugene. The bride was honored at a shower given by Miss Kyker a few days before the wedding j at the Edwards home. A group of the bride's close friends were invited to attend. Friday night Mrs. Ray Darby, sister of the bridegroom, entertained, for the bride. Newlywed Couple Honored at Dinner Mr. and Mrs. William McAl lister were hosts for a dinner Wednesday evening which hon ored Dr. and Mrs. Brian String er. The dinner was given at the McAllister's home on Hillcrest avenue, and 16 guests attended. Dr. and Mrs. Stringer, mar ried May 12 in a formal evening ceremony at First Presbyterian church, will leave soon to make their home in Christchurch, New Zealand, where the bridegroom's parents live. Couple Honored At Housewarming Tuesday Evening Talent Mr. and Mrs. James Iver Bergren were honored at a housewarming Tuesday eve ning, May 22 when a large nun ber of friends and relatives call ed at their home at 627Vi North Central avenue. The young cou ple's wedding was an event ot May 18 at Talent Friends church. The bride is the former Miss Beverly Jo Murray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Murray, 204 Roy street, Talent. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Iver Bergren, 104 Wagner avenue, also Talent. The ceremony war held at 7 o'clock in the evening and was read by the Rev. ' LeRoy Nie fert. About 25 guests attended. The bride wore a light pink linen suit with beige accessories. Her flowers were pink tea roses with white carnations. Miss Rose Murray was her sis ter's attendant. She wore a pale yellow dress with white acces sories. Spring flowers decorated the altar and Miss Marlys Hurd fur nished the wedding music. The couple made their wed ding trip to the Oregon coast. Both attended .Talent High school. The bride has been em ployed as a stenographer at Kogap Lumber industries and the bridegroom is associated with the logging industry. Gilmans to Mark 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George Gilman, 3466 Table Rock road, will hold open house Sunday, June 3, in celebration of their golden wed ding anniversary. Friends are in vited to call between two and four o'clock. The Gilmans came to Jackson county shortly after their wed ding and have lived here since. The couple's six sons and daughters will all be in Med ford for the open house. They are Louis Gilman, Lester Gil- man, Mrs. Laura McKey, Mrs. N. J. Chausse, Mrs. E. R. Black- marr and Mrs. W. R. France, Mrs. Blackmarr will come from her home in Lawndale, Calif., and the other five live 'here. Mothers Honored . At Dinner Party Wednesday Night Seven senior girls of Medford high school entertained . their mothers at a dinner party at Mon Desir dining inn, Central Point, Wednesday night. The event was no host. Attending were Mrs. John Carter with her daughter, Miss Janet Carter; Mrs. ' Russell Ho- gue and daughter, Miss Beverly Hogue; Mrs. Clyde Fichtner and daughter Carolyn Fichtner; Mrs. Jim Pree and daughter, Miss Barbara Pree; Mrs. Virgil Rose and daughter, Miss Rita Rose; Mrs. Crocker Hunter arid daugh ter, Miss Virginia Hunter, and Mrs. Kenneth Hamner and daughter. Owens, route 1, box 346, Talent, a senior at Talent high school was crowned queen of Phoenix festival . activities Saturday morning at the festival grounds at the Community build ing. She was presented a set of luggage and received her gold crown from Miss Betty James, last year's Phoenix festival queen. Curt Fisher was master of ceremonies for the event. Members of her court were Miss Pat Adams, Miss Dorothy Bean, Miss Jane Daniels and Miss Charlotte Keene. The queen and the court ap peared at both a modern dance and a square dance held in con nection with the festival activi- ities Saturday night. . Miss Owens is editor of the school paper, president of the Phoenix chapter, Future Home makers of American, and is ac tive in dramatics and music. She is moderator of Westminister fellowship and sings in the Phoenix Presbyterian church choir. The queen also is a mem ber of the International Order of Job's Daughters at Ashland and plans to attend Whitworth col lege at Spokane. Here - Mrs. Volney Dixon, who lived for -many years in Medford, is here to visit relatives and friends and is a guest in the home of Mrs. F. Wilson Wait. Mrs. Dixon spent the winter in Phoenix, Ariz., with her daughter, Mrs. T. B. Hancock, and after ending her stay here, will continue to Roseburg, Ore., to spend the sum mer with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Dixon. Cocktail Party To Honor Couple . On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reter, 20 Glen Oak court, will enter tain this afternoon at their home at a champagne cocktail party which will honor her stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Phetteplace in observance of their 25th wedding anniversary. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Phet teplace are invited to call be tween the hours of 4 and 7 p.m., at the Reter home.. Decorations will be in pink and silver with white. A buffet lunch and anniversary cake will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Phetteplace were married in Medford May 31, 1931.
