Mr. and Mrs. Htiman M. Pfahl (Don C. Halsey photo) jMjr Darlene Faye Neeley Bride of Herman M. Pfahl Miss Darlene Faye Neeley and Herman M. Pfahl were married in double ring rites May 11 at First Baptist church. The Rev. James W. Neely read the cere mony which was attended by about 275 guests. The couple made a wedding trip to Red ding. Calif., and are living at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Neeley, 1810 West Main street. The bridegroom, a . pre-vet- ftiary student at Southern Ore gon college, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Pfahl, 437 North Columbus avenue. Baskets of mixed flowers and greenerjr decorated the ' church and the aisles were marked with white bells and satin bows. Lighting the candles were Karen Shoop, a cousin of the bride, and Janet Gillmore. Mrs. Wil liam Green furnished the songs and Miss Sonja Peterson was organist. The bride wore a floor length gown of brocaded satin styled with princess lines. Seed pearls and sequins trimmed the neck line and bodice. Her pleated tulle cap had matching trim and held her fingertip veil which was edged with lace. The bride carried a spray of carnations centered with an orchid. Miss Charlene Paull, Central Point, was honor attendant and bridesmaids and matrons were Miss Jane Neely, Mrs. Gordon Gillmore and Miss Jean Cop pedge. They wore matching gowns of deep blue-green taf feta with long bodices and full gathered skirts. Their head bands matched their gowns and were trimmed with pearls. The attendants carried colonial bou quets of pink ester reed daisies. Miss Wendy Green, was flow er girl, and Gayle Neeley, a cousin of the bride, was ring bearer. Seating the guests were Jerry Perkins, Vern Tenney and Jack Gault. The reception was held in the church rooms. Miss Betty Arn old and Miss Donna Heideman served the cake. Miss Gayle Sweeney and Miss Bertha Allen poured punch and serving cof-. fee were the Misses Flora Chavis and Roma Gilbert served the coffee. Mrs. Howard Lindstrom had charge of the guest book and the Misses Lois Zimmers and Rayma Stephens opened gifts. The bride is a service repre sentative at Pacific Telephone company and attended Medford high school. The bridegroom at tended Ashland high school. New Organization Elects Officers The second meeting of the newly formed Woman's Auxil iary of St. Mark's Episcopal church was held in the church May' 22, at 2 p.m. Mrs. William D, Clegg presided, and officers were elected. They are president, Mrs. G. R. .Owens: first vice president, Mrs. Robert Dames; 1 second vice president, Mrs. Mac- Cloud, Maurice; recording sec retary, Mrs. Fred Morlan; cor responding secretary, Mrs. Love joy; treasurer, Mrs. William Isaacs. The new officers were instal led by the Rev. George R. V. Bolster in a service at the altar rail. Following the installation, tea was served in the Parish house. Hostesses were Mrs. John Deaver, Mrs. Robert Holmes, and Mrs. Ray K. Bailey. Marilyn Bohnert Honored at Party; Wedding Day Set Miss Marilyn Bohnert, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. John Boh nert, Seven Oaks ranch. Cen tral Point, was honored at a bridal shower held recently at the home of her aunt. Mrs. L. C. Lisenbee, Central Point, with Mrs. Lisenbee, as hostess. Seven teen relatives of the bride-elect attended and she was presented miscellanous gifts. Games were pteyed and re freshments served. Decorations included serpentine in pastel shades and spring flowers. Miss Bohnert's wedding to James Frank of Myrtle Creek will be an event of June 7 at First Christian church in Med ford. Both are members of the graduating class this spring at Oregon State college. Many Campus Honors Awarded To Students End of the year activities at schools and colleges have brought many Medford students into the news in recent weeks. Miss Janet Coyle and Miss Sally Harris were two of 131 students chosen for membership by Phi Kappa Phi, national all school scholastic honor society at Oregon State college. The top scholastic 10 per cent of the senior class, 3 per cent of the junior class, and selected graduate students and faculty members are eligible for mem bership. Emphasizing scholar ship and character in college students and stimulating mental achievement are purposes of the organization. Miss Coyle, daughter -at Dr. and Mrs. Charles L. Coyle, 708 Park street, is a senior majoring in agriculture. Miss Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester O, Harris, 707 South Oakdale street, is a junior in elementary education at OSC. Both honor students are grad uates of Medford high school. Gordon P. Ashby is one of 17 students at Oregon State college to receive OSC Mothers' club scholarships of $195. The scho larship funds are raised by vari ous local OSC Mothers' club un its throughout the state and are presented annually at Mothers' weekend to deserving college students. The student, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ashby, 830 Bennett avenue, is a sophomore majoring in business and technology at OSC. He is a 1954 graduate of Medford High school. Miss Melissa Jennings, daugh ter of Dr. and Mrs. George S. Jennings, Saginaw drive and Miss Viola Russell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Russell, 204 North Ivy Street, have been tapped for membership in Saca jaweans, sophomore women's honor society at Lewis and Clark college. The tapping was a part of the annual May fete ceremonies at the college. Formal initiation and election of officers were held May 21, and Miss Russell was elected president of the group. Jerry Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry O. Peterson, 3857 Jacksonville highway, is an honor student in chemical engineering at Oregon State col lege. The young man, a soph omore, was recently announced winner of an award for having the second highest grades of .any member of his national social fraternity, Sigma- Pi. The fra ternity has about 50 chapters in all parts of the nation. He is also a member of the mathematics honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon, and of Phi Eta Sigma, scholastic honor society at OSC. He has been on the scholastic honor roll each quarter since enrollment. He is vice president and rush chairman of his fraternity and a member of Silver Wings, ROTC drill team. He has been selected by Wey erheauser Timber company to work in the company laboratory at Springfield, Ore., this sum mer. ' Miss Ann Padgham, soph omore student in the University of California college of letters and science at Davis, has teen awarded an activity pin for her work in the student body organ ization. The award was presented at the final student assembly of the spring semester last week. More than 135 students re ceived honors based on parti cipation in athletics and other ac tivities Miss Padgham is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Padg ham, 2707 Springbrook road. Of the graduating class. She recently was named May queen, has served as president of Associated Women students and of Mu Phi Epsilon, music fraternity. She served as song leader of her sorority, Delta Gamma, and was a member of various music groups on the campus. She attended college on an Elks Lumber company scholarship. Kenneth Piland, a freshman at Lewis and Clark college, has been elected to Phi Mu Alpha (Sinfonia), men's national honor fraternity for music majors. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Piland, 834 West Thirteenth street. Medford students were hon ored during the traditional Jun ior Weekend activities at the University of Oregon. Those chosen for membership in honor groups were Darrel Brittsan, James Perry, Michael R. DeVore and Richard Johnson. Young Brittsan received the Maurice Harold Hunter Leader ship award and was also tapped by Friars, senior men's honor ary. He is president-elect of the student body. James Perry was tapped for Druids, junior men's honorary, while young DeVore was chosen for membership in Skull and Dagger, sophomore men's hon orary. ' t Asklepiads, honorary for pre medical students, tapped Rich ard Johnson, a sophomore in pre-medical studies. Family Arrives From California Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wil son and daughters, Deborah and Nancy, arrived Saturday from San Jose, Calif., to visit with relatives for a week. They are houseguests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Green on Sunset court. Mrs. Wilson is the former Miss Betty Green, and is a former secretary to the late Mayor Diamond L. Flynn. They will visit Mr. Wilson's mother, Mrs. Helen Holt Wilson, and his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. William W. P. Holt, 11 Corning court. This is Mr. Wil son's first visit home in four years. He is associated, with the San Jose branch of International Business Machines. They also will visit numerous friends. Student Receives r PTA Scholarship; Others Awarded Miss Sharon Lee Whitlock, daughter of W. and Mrs. Charles P. Whitlock, of 1425 Crater Lake avenue, has been awarded a four-year scholarship in elementary education to Ore gon State college by the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teach ers. She is a member of the graduating class of Medford High school, and plans to attend OSC beginning next fall. In adidtion, Miss Whitlock also received a one year award from Pacific university at For est Grove, with honors at en trance which is the highest rec ognition that a graduating sen ior can acquire upon admission to a college. She also was pre sented with a one year full tui tion scholarship to Southern Oregon college by the Oregon State System of Higher Educa tion. Miss Whitlock is a member of Torch Honor society, Future Teachers of America, is secre tary of the high school band and has been a majorette in the same organization for the past two years. After school hours, she is employed by Medford branch, First National bank. For several years she has entertained in the valley and in many other cities throughout the west, botlvwith dancing and with accordion Bride Honored At Shower Party A bridal shower honoring Mrs. Donald Glenn, was held at the Dayton Glenn home, Old Stage rd., May 18. Those attend ing were Mesdames Velma Hanna, Douglas Lamb, Garry Shuler, Faye Goddard, Darrell Mitchell, Beulah Jackson,' Vern Jackson, Frank Glenn, Neil Glenn, Bob McClearen, Hugh Glenn, J. A. Westensee, Dean Glenn and Dayton Glenn, and Miss Dorinda Glenn. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Glenn were married March 31 at the Dayton Glenn home. The bride is the former Miss Wilma Jack son. Board Members For Civic Music To Meet Monday Members of the board of Jack son County Civic Music asso ciation will meet Monday, May 28, at 8 p.m. in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darell F. Huson, 45 Lindley street. Collins Ervin, regional repre sentative of Civic Concerts Serv ice, will meet with the group to discuss the concert season for 1956-57 in Medford. Sunday.' May 27, 1958 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THRER Stephens College Names Graduates Two Medford students at Ste phens college, Columbia, Mo., and a former resident of Med ford are candidates for associate in arts degree at ' the college. They are Miss Sandra Rae Hub bard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester A. Hubbard. 2451 Ly man avenue; Miss Gloria Neil son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Neilsen, Plaza apart ments, and Miss Mary Louise Anderson, daughter of Chaplain and Mrs. Henry Anderson,- for merly of East Jackson street, now of Vancouver, Wash. Commencement exercises will be conducted for the 123rd grad uating class at Stephens Tues day morning, May 29, when de grees will be conferred on 625 candidates. Thomas Arthur Spragens, president, will present the degrees. A four-day program began May 25 with the first of two commmencement balls. Other events include a performance of "Goodbye My Fancy," done by drama students and professional male actors who are theater arts faculty members; an honors con vocation, an art exhibit; a water carnival and a horse show. Baccalaureate services are scheduled for this morning and a noon luncheon will be served followed by a concert this after noon. : Three Travelers Leaving. Tuesday For Visit Abroad Mr. and Mrs. Carlo Ghelardi and Mrs. Ghelardi's brother, Cesare Salvadorini, all of 2193 Jacksonville highway, plan to leave Tuesday afternoon by United Air lines for New York City en route to Italy. They will go by way . of San Francisco. From New York they will go by Trans-World air lines, stop ping at Paris, France and Zurich, Switzerland before arriving at their destination at Milan, Italy. The three plan to visit also in Pisa, Genoa and Rome, and will be with brothers and sisters and other relatives. The travelers also expect to spend some time at the resort town of Via Reg gio. Mr. and Mrs. Ghelardi left Italy 48 years ago and Mr. Sal vadorini came to this country in 1913. This is their first return to their homeland. They formerly lived in Wal lace and Mullen, Ida., before comin'g to Medford in 1924. Both men worked since, until their recent retirement, at Medford Corporation. Family Dinner Friday Evening Honors Parents Mr. and Mrs. Riley Appel- gate, 2262 Delta Waters road, have as their guests, Mrs. Appel gate's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Naderman of Salem. They arrived a week ago and in the meantime Mr. Naderman attended sessions at Tillamook of the grand lodge of Oregon, Independent Order of Odd Fel lows. He is a past grand patri arch and at the present is a grand representative of the grand encampment of Oregon. He returned here Friday eve ning when he and Mrs. Nader man observed their 35th wed ding anniversary at a family dinner at the Appelgate home. The dinner was also attended by the three Appelgate children, Ralph, Kathallee and Eddie. Color scheme for dinner decora tions was in the coral theme, ap propriate for the occasion. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Martin Buch of Grants Pass, cousins of Mrs. Naderman, vis ited at the home. Last week overnight guests at the Appel gates were Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Theis and their three chil dren who were en route from their home in Salem to vacation in California. Griffin Creek Unit To Meet on Friday Griffin Creek Home Exten sion unit will hold the closing meeting for the year Friday. June 1, at the home of Mrs. N. E. Harper, 1599 Columbus street. A picnic luncheon will be held at noon and officers for next year will be installed in the afternoon by Mrs. Harper. Mrs. Lewis Clark is the in coming president, Mrs. H. L.
