Curt, 4, and Teri, 7, are the children of Dr. and Mrs. Frank C. Roberts, 915 West Tenth street, Medford. The Roberts family spend many week ends at their cabin on Big Butte creek and for the children it is always a treat to be allowed to play in the water. lib -"S ' 'V Almost every spring Sunday finds Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dwyer Jr. and their children at Emigrant lake -with their boat, water skis and swim suits. Pictured here are Mike, in the water with the skis; his twin brother, Oennie, in the boat, and Mr. Dwyer. The family lives at 1216 Winchester avenue. Roberts was a small boy growing up in Jackson county he learned to fish in the waters of Big Butte creek. Now, many years later, fishing is still one of his main interests. Knee deep in the frothy waters of Big Butte, Dr. Roberts is pictured wearing waders and a fisherman's vest as he tries his luck near the family abin last Sunday. By Olive Starcher In the years since the United States turned into a nation of automobile owners, Sunday outings, have become part of the American way of life. Sunday is the time when practically every one packs up a lunch, stows away the camping, fishing or boating gear and takes off in the farnily car. Some may hunt for rocks or fossils, others will go horseback riding. Southern Oregon residents are among the favored, for this region is a recreation and sportsman's paradise. There are swift rivers and calm lakes for fishing and boating, there are hills and snow-covered mountains for hiking, climbing and horseback riding. Everyone can find a pastime or recreation to suit his needs nd desires. MEDFORDlSPTTilSUNE SUNDAY, MAY 27,, 1956 , Outdoors on Sunday When it is a day in late May, the sun shines but not too warmly, then the urge to be outdoors is almost irresistible. Last Sunday," May 20, was such a day, and by mid-morning the roads were filled with motorists on their way to a favorite outing spot. Emigrant lake, which gets progressively smaller as the irriga tion season advances, is the mecca for boating and water sports enthusiasts at this time of the year. At the Jackson County Sheriff's Mounted posse grounds horsemen from several towns were en joying a play day, and in parks, picnic areas and along the Rogue river were to be found families enjoying a day of rest outdoors. Mr; Bohle, who agreed with otheri in the park in saying that the fish-weren't biting very well Sunday, was relaxing as well as fishing and looked wonderfully comfortable. His shoes, wet and muddy, had been put out to dry. All ready for pancakes and coffee ore (left to right) Miss Beverley Nelson, Miss Montana Emerson, Mrs. O. D. Martin, Larry Strode, Roseburg, Mrs. John Morris, Mrs. Frank Christian, Jerry Fullerton, Roseburg, Gary Gustafson, Mrs. John Shama, Tony Boitano, Mrs. Howard Haskell, captain of the ladies' troop; Frank Christian, Mrs. Roy Vague and her daughter. Darlene, expert swimmer ond water skier, is shown here os she was towed around the lake at a fast clip by George Spaunhorst, 1217 Mt Pitt avenue, Medford. Darlene, who uses only one ski, made two or three trips by the cameraman just to be sure the picture was taken, but a little later took a spill into the cold waters of the lake. After swimming part way to shore, she was picked up by Mr. Spaunhorst and her brother, Mike who was manning the tow line.
