FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, April 15, 1956 League Sets Annual Meeting Medford League of Women Voters will hold the annual meeting Saturday, April 21, in the Rogue Room of the Medford Hotel at 12 noon. Miss Helen Webster, Medford librarian, will be the guest speaker. Miss Webster has cooperated with the league's "Know Your Town Committee" in studying the Medford library. The mate rial gathered on the policies and activities of the library by the committee chairman, Miss Donna Sherwood, assisted by Mrs. Le- land Mentzer, was presented to the March study units. Election will be held and nominated for office are Mrs. Hugh Collins, first vice-prest dent; Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter, second vice-p resident; Miss Laura York, corresponding sec retary; Mrs. Don Bohnert, re cording secretary; Mrs. John S. Day and Mrs. Iriving Thomas, directors; Mrs. William Knope, chairman of the nominating committee. Other officers will remain for another term. Mrs. Robert D. Hiatt is president. . Reservations for the annual League luncheon may be made by calling "Mrs. Homer Marx, 2-6845 by Friday, April 20. The morning study unit will be held Wednesday, April 18, at 9:45 a.m., at the home of Mrs. Fred Carr, 16 Florence avenue. Mrs. Irving Thomas, Voters' Service chairman, will present for discussion nonpartisan infor mation pertaining to candidates and issues to be voted upon in the May primaries. Medford IVoman Honored On Birthday Anniversary Mrs. Margaret Fabrick was honored at a luncheon Thursday which observed her 80th birthday anniversary. The birthday luncheon was given by past queens of Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile, Mrs. Fabrick also being a past queen of that organi zation, as well as a charter member. It was held at the home of Mrs. O. L. Overmyer, 610 South Holly street. Mrs. Fabrick, who has lived in Medford since 1906, was born in San Francisco April 15, 1876, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Roberts. The family later moved to Oregon. Attending the luncheon were Mrs. Fabrick, Mrs. Overmyer, Mrs. Lenore Kellom, Mrs. Harry Nordwick, Mrs. Raymond Reter and Mrs. Wilbur Arnold. Mrs. Reter presented Mrs. Fabrick a birthday cake topped with fresh daffodils. When Mrs. Fabrick and her husband, the late Glen Fabrick, arrived in Medford to operate a laundry the population of the city was but 3,000 persons and "we had nothing but mud in the winter-time," Mrs. Fabrick re calls. The laundry, named the Elite, was located near the pre sent East Main street bridge, and Mrs. Fabrick remembers that it was "a crude building.'-' Later the couple improved the building, and still later the bus iness was moved to new quarters on Riverside avenue. Leons carry a complete stock, at all times, in both the girdle K and Pantie. , Mrs. Fabrick has been iden tified with many civic and frater nal organizations of the city She was an active member of the old Greater Medford club, at one time belonged to Wednes day Study club, oldest of the city's organizations for women, and was a charter member of the American Legion auxiliary here. The local organization was first called the Next of Kin club, she recalled, and one of the early members was Mrs. Minnie Bry ant, who still lives in Medford. One of the group's first proj ects was furnishing of a club room in the Merrick building, then a new structure. Mrs. Fabrick is a long-time member of St. Mark's Episcopal church and has worked for many years in the Red Cross, as a Grey Lady and in other services. She was interested in the city's cul tural activities, and was one of those who supported the An drews Opera company programs. At one time Mrs. Fabrick took vocal lessons from the late Charles Hazelrigg, and she was an active member of Medford Musical society for many years. Mrs. Fabrick is one of the charter members of Medford Zonta club, and served as its first president. She is a 55-year member of Reames chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. In her early life Mrs. Fabrick taught school for 12 years, in cluding three years among the Indians at Umatilla agency in Oregon. Before her marriage the family lived at Hood River, her father, a Scot, having been long identified with the sheep raising and wool industry of the state. Mrs. Fabrick sons and daugh ters are Mrs. J. A. Sly, Van couver, Wash,; Dewey Fabrick, Oceanside, Calif., a career Navy man; Mrs. H. S. Ingle, Ashland; Glen L. Fabrick, Medford, and Mrs. Paul Selby. She has several I grandchildren and great-grand-j children. Announce Visit Of Grand Matron Alpha chapter, Ashland, Order of the Eastern Star, will be host ess for a district meeting of the four Eastern Star chapters of the valley for April 17 at 8 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Ash land. Miss Carlotta K. Wiseman, Grants Pass, worthy grand matron of the grand chapter of Oregon, will make her official visit at that time. In addition to Alapha chapter, chapters participating will be Adarel, ' Jacksonville; Nevita chapter, Central Point and Reames chapter, Medford. Preceding the meeting a no host dinner wil be served at Tally-Ho Dining room at 6 p.m. Zion Lutheran church was the scene April 8 of the wedding of Miss Karen Dale Olson and Rob ert Merrill Carr. The 2 o'clock afternoon ceremony was read by the Rev. Herbert Hillerman. About 125 guests attended. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence P. Olson, Jacksonville - Phoenix highway, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester L. Carr, Fern Valley road. The church decorations were of white carnations with white stock and baskets of pink carna tions mixed with white stock. The bride's father gave her in marriage. She wore a gown of lace and net over satin, balle rina length, and a fingertip veil of net and lace. Her bouquet was pink and white roses with pink and white carnations and her pearl necklace was a gift from the bridegroom. Miss Linda Nelson, a cousin of the bride from San Francisco, was the honor attendant, and Miss Romelle Fossen, another cousin from Jacksonville, was bridesmaid. The attendants' gowns were ballerina length of satin with net overskirts, Miss Nelson's of blue satin and Miss Fossen's pink satin. The honor attend ant's bouquet was of yellow and white carnations and Miss Fos sen's flowers were white carna tions. Both attendants wore white flowers in their hair. George Carr, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and another brother, David Carr, and Ronald Martin, seated the guests. The bride's mother wore a navy blue dress with white ac- cesories and the bridegrooms mother was dressed in black and nink. also with white accessor ies. Both had corsages of pink rose with white carnations. The reception was held at the church and the reception room was decorated with spring flow ers. Mrs. Alice Johnson cut the wedding cake while Mrs. E. D. Fossen served the punch. The couple left after the re ception for their honeymoon at Gold Beach. They are living at Fern Valley road. Among out - of - town guests were the bridegrooms grand mother, Mrs. Zelma Carr, Cot tage Grove; Mrs. Alice Jonnson, aunt of the bride here irom Mineapolis, Minn.; for the occa sion, and Mr. and Mrs. wenry Nelson, the bride's aunt and un cle, and their daughter, who served as honor attendant, all from San Francisco. The bride with her parents moved in 1950 to Talent from Aitkin, Minn., and in 1952 they moved to Medford. The bride is a secretary at Cascade Wood Products com pany, and is a 1954 graduate of Medford Senior High school. The bridegroom is a 1949 grad uate of the same school. He is employed by Austin King. Homemakers Set Annual Festival This year for the first time the public will be invited to view exhibits and projects of Jackson County Homemaker's annual spring festival. The public view ing is set for May 1 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The festival will open the next morning and the event will be held at Central Point Grange hall. Plans are being completed now by the various units for the county-wide affair, when home makers from the county meet to gether to recognize work that has been done during the year and to honor volunteer local leaders whose services contrib ute to better homes and com munities. Special Meeting For Episcopalians Planned Tuesday . A special meeting of all women of St. Mark's Episcopal parish has been called for Tues day, April 17 at 2 p.m., in the Parish house, when Mrs. P. L. Herbig, Eugene, diocesan presi dent of the state auxiliary, will be guest speaker. All women as sociated with St. Mark's church are invited to attend and meet Mrs. Herbig. Tea will be served after the meeting next Tuesday. Blue Star Mothers was organ ized after World War II; it's members are mothers of service men or women. Objectives of the organization are to further patriotism in the U.S.A., to be of service to and help rehabili tate war veterans. The group will convene in the i Jackson county courthouse audi- torium at 9 a.m. Thursday, April ! 26, for the yearly business ses sion. On the preceding evening a banquet will be held at the Medford Hotel starting at 6:15 p.m., with F.- Glonning, VAVS representative at Camp White, as guest speaker. Registration will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednes day in the hotel lobby.- Other speakers will be on the conven tion program. Three Department of Oregon representatives reside in Med ford. They are the state presi dent, Mrs. Rex Note; the state secretary, Mrs. F. Gleaves and the state financial secretary, Mrs. Helen Watson.
