National Secretaries association, having been elected during a con vention last week end in Eugene. Mrs. Thomas, a secretary at Cal Ore Machinery company, Medford, lives in Central Point. (Brainerd photo) Mother, Daughter Visit in Finland Mrs. Russel R. Mix and daugh ter, Lynor, 210 Laurel street, have left Medford to spend sev eral weeks in Finland. The two left here March 20 by plane for Chicago where they visited Mrs. Mix's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tuominen, and other relatives. March 29 they sailed from New York on the Norwegian liner, SS Stavenger Fjord for Finland. The travelers will return about the middle of July. Kay Thomas Heads Club In Oregon Mrs. Kay Thomas, Central Point, was elected Oregon divis ion president for the National Secretaries association at the group's state convention in Eu gene April 6-7. Mrs. Thomas is also the president of the local chapter of NSA and is employed as a secretary at Cal-Ore Ma chinery company here in Med ford. Other division officers elected land, secretary and Mrs. Hazel j Lyle, Eugene, treasurer. Theme of the convention was "growth through cooperation, companion ship and CPS," which stands for Certified Professional Secretary, the ultimate goal of all NSA members. Attending the con vention was Miss Martha Rosa mond, Spokane, Wash., north west district vice-president of National Secretaries Association. Local secretaries making the trip to Eugene for the conven tion were Mrs. Kay Jandreau, Mrs. Jeanne Rose, Mrs. Virginia Schuster and Mrs. Thomas. The birthday meeting of Rogue River chapter, National Secretaries association, Interna tional, was held Thursday, at the Kachina room in Phoenix. Fourteen, members and one guest, Mrs. Fredene Doty, at tended. Highlight of the evening was. the traditional candlelight in itiation of three new members, Mrs. Bea Saunders, Mrs. Jeanne Rose and Mrs. Gwenn Caster. The chapter president, Mrs. Kay Thomas, gave a detailed re port of the recent division con vention at Eugene at which the local chapter won a prize for membership drive participation. The evening's entertainment featured an Oriental auction at which members bid on unknown objects donated by other mem bers of the group. Member Transfers To Medford Lodge McKinley Finnell became a member of Medford Odd Fel lows lodge at a meeting April 10. He transferred his membership from Redding, Calif. a A pinochle trophy was won from the Central Point lodge by Homer Vinzant, Forest Samples and E. B. McNew. The trophy is furnished .by the Grants Pass IOOF lodge. It was reported that blood do nations have been made to the blood mobile campaign, given in the name of the IOOF lodge. Marcus McKenzie, chairman, with Jack Huston and Mr. Vin zant, make up a committee to prepare a float for the annual Pear Blossom festival parade. Mrs. Ira D. Can field was installed royal matron, succeeding Mrs. George Rehart, and Clarence Harwood was installed as royal patron, succeeding Carl Oestreich. Other officers installed were Mrs. Vernon Turpin, associate matron; Ole Skoog, associate patron; Mrs. Carl Oestreich, sec retary; Lloyd Caton, treasurer; Mrs. Marshall Day, conductress; Mrs. Frank Little, associate con ductress; Earle Sweek, trustee for two years; Marshall Day trustee for three year; Mrs. John Esp, marshal in east; Mrs. Lem Manning, marshal in west; Mrs. Clarence Harwood, prelate; Mrs. Jack Clark, standard bearer; Mrs. Fred Graten, truth; Mrs. Frank Salyers, faith; Mrs. Lloyd Caton, wisdom; Mrs. Stanley Jones Sr., charity; Fred Purdin, historian; Mrs. J. The court was opened in reg ular form by Mrs. Rehart and Mr. Oestreich, the retiring royal matron and patron, who were presented with past matron and patron jewels on behalf of the court, as well as gifts from their officers. The uncrowning ceremonies were conducted by Mrs. Jack Schulz, past royal matron of Friendship court of Klamath Falls, Who acted as uncrowning matron. She was assisted by Mrs. Glenn Linn, crown bearer; Mrs. Charles Hoppe, standard bearer; Mrs. Jack Kennedy, marshal in east; Mrs. Frank Lambo, mar shal in west. The installation ceremony was performed by Mr. Oestreich, in stalling patron; Mrs. Hoppe, in stalling marshal; Mr. Hoppe, aide to marshal; Mrs. Glenn Linn, installing prelate; Mrs. Ernest Price, installing secretary; Mrs. Mrs. L. G. Frink, installing musi cian. Mrs. Dewey Queen, past ma tron, acted as coronating matron in the coronation cermonies and was assisted by Mr. Canfield, marshal; Mrs Tom Freed, stand ard bearer; Mrs. William Barnes, crown bearer; Mr. Linn, sword bearer; Mrs. J. Following the ceremonies, re freshments were served in the dining room, which was decorat ed with pansies, these being the official flower of the matrons of 1956 throughout the state. Mrs. Graten extended appre ciation to all her officers and committees and greeted the in coming officers. Mrs. Salyers appointed com-: mittees for the year. Mrs. Hazel i Dixon was appointed chairman ! of the hostess committee; Mrs. : Melva Hadley, custodian; Mrs. j L. C. Scott, visitation; Mrs. D. ' W. Bowers, publicity; Mrs. E. B. Root, Mrs. E. Hoffman and Mrs. Harry Nordwick, finance. Guests at the ceremonies were Mrs. Dwight Alderman, Vancou ver, Wash., and Mrs. B r e n Starcher, who were introduced. General c h ai r m a n for the event. was Mrs. Clay Lee, assist ed by Mrs. Root. Mrs. Charles Hoppe had charge of table dec orations which were spring flow ers. Past presidents who did the installing were Mrs. Ralph Lue and Mrs. Ira Canfield. Mrs. E. G. Trowbridge re ceived a gift and others given gifts were Mrs. Fred Purdin, Mrs. Osier, Mrs. Robert Simpson and Mrs. D. W. Bowers. A trio made up of Janet Hughes, Mary Angela Neer and Jeff Yocom danced and Teresa Wilkins, Kimmie Gay Williams, and Janette Mayes did a ballet number. They are students of the Colleen Hope Dance studio. Cards were the diversion of the afternoon. - Missionary Council Adds New Activities A number of activities have been added to the program of the Women's Missionary council of Medford Assembly of God church and women of the vicin ity are invited to attend their meetings.
