Nurseries, Day Schools to Get AAUW Study Mrs. Herbert Seitz, last year"s " president of the Medford Branch of the American Association of University Women and now a member of the AAUW state com mittee of social studies, an nounced recently the participa tion of southern Oregon branches in a state wide survey of nurseries, day care centers, and kindergartens. Mrs. Seitz has initiated and will supervise this survey in Grants Pass, Med ford, Ashland, Klamath Falls, and Lakeview. Mrs. Willard Sanzenbacher, Oswego, state chairman of social studies for the AAUW, is in charge of the state survey, to be analyzed and - reported to the state convention next spring. Last April, after a pilot study in Portland, the state convention voted to make such a "pre-school educational facilities" study. Results will be used to esti mate the adequacy of present facilities and what legislative action should be taken in the field. Miss Rhoda Williams, social studies chairman for the local branch, will be in charge of the survey for Medford. She has been assisted in planning by Miss Jeraldyn Jerome, Mrs. A. N. Pot fter, Mrs. Bernice Schofield, and 'Mrs. Seitz. Questionnaires cov , ering physical and educational aspects have been sent to all of the known nurseries in the area. The committee urges that any nursery director not receiving a questionnaire contact Miss Wil liams, 1975 Houston road, tele phone 3-1354. Miss Williams plans to arrange personal visits to nurseries by members of her committee to answer any questions in regard to the questionnaires. All reports on the survey are to be com pleted early in January. 4 Three Students Return to OSC Three Oregon State college students who were among those home for the Thanksgiving hoi days will return to Corvallis this afternoon. The three ' are Rickey Werner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Werner; Bob Sevick, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Sevcik, and Martin Heitkamp Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Heitkarrrp. All three young people are af filiated with Pi Kappa Phi fra ternity. Rickey Werner and young Sevcik are sophomores and Younk Heitkamp is a fresh man. To Lunch The Rogue chapter 113, Grandmothers of America, will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 28 with Mrs. Elsa Walker, 129 North Oakdale ave., for a luncheon. Installation ceremonies were conducted by Mrs. Harry Bryant, grand royal princess; Mrs. Mil dred Tolle, grand royal prelate; Mrs. Morley Lamp, grand royal guide, and Mrs. Leroy Kline, grand mystic one. Officers elected besides Miss Kyker included Miss Rosemary Tokar, charity; Miss Darla Wal ker, friendship; Miss Barbara Stamper, prelate; Miss Betty Lou Cline, royal guide; Miss Judy Tolle, mystic one; Miss Judy Har den, royal warden; Miss Annice Black, royal sentinel; Miss Don na Walker, recorder; Miss Ce cilia Fichtner, exchequer; Miss Cynthia Blachley, musician; Miss Shirley Brown, press; and Mrs. Harry Bryant, installing officer. Advisory councillors include Mrs. Bryant, Mrs. Mildred Tolle; Mrs. Ben -Blachley, Mrs. Edward Bostwick, Mrs. Morley Ramp, Leroy Cline, and Edward Bost wick. Miss Kyker and Miss Bostwick were presented awards for re ceiving the highest number of points for the period ending Oct. 31, and Kathy Smith was an nounced winner of an award for collecting the most silverware coupons. A skit was presented by Mrs. Pearl Offut, Mrs. George Tho mas, Mrs. Don Anderson, and Mrs. Renne Grosh, Pythian sis ters of the sponsoring organiza tion. Miss Kyker presented a vio lin solo and Barbara Stamper and Rosemary Tokar acted out a skit, "Her Souvenirs." Miss Banra Miller played "You Are My Sunshine" on the accordion with the entire group joining in singing. The next meeting for the Pythian Sunshine Girls will be Dec. 8. Nurses Schedule Officer Ceremony The Licensed Practical Nurses association of Jackson county will hold installation of new of ficers in the social room of Sa cred Heart hospital, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28. Outgoing officers are Alma Clay, president; Bessie Baldwin, vice-president; Thelma Edison, secretary, and Dena Morgan, treasurer. New officers to be in- sfallpd include Bessie Baldwin, president; Marie Pierce, vice- president; Vida Morse, secre tary, and Sara Rutherford, treas urer. Garner (Landis-Shangle photo) Seaver-Garner Ceremony Held at Nazarene Church Talent Mr. and Mrs. William Roger Garner are at home at 837 West 12th street following their wedding November 5 at the First Nazarene church, Ashland. The bride, the former Miss Joanne Seaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Seaver, route 1, box 59, Talent, is a 1955 Talent High school graduate one is empioyeu as a tupywruer at radio station KMED. The bridegroom, a deliveryman for a local appliance store, is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Don Garner, 2853 Howard ave. For their wedding trip the couple traveled to California and visited Lassen park and Shasta dam. The Rev. R. W. Hohn offi ciated at the 8 p.m. ceremony. The bride wore a white, waltz length nylon net dress with Italian lace trimming and a sweetheart neckline. The skirt was net with lace panels. She carried two large white orchids on a white Bible with stephan otis streamers. Mrs. Glenn L. Pittman, San Francisco, sister of the bride, served at matron of honor and wore a solid coral formal with matching headband. Brides maids, attired in coral dotted Swiss ballerina length formals with matching headbands, in cluded Miss Sally Boyd and Miss Beverly Murray. Sylvia Foster was flower girl, wearing a coral dotted Swiss dress. Ring bearer was Jeff Blahkenship and best man was Frank Reich. Foster Seaver Jr., brother of theb ride, and Jim Watrus, ushered. The church was decorated with white chrysanthemums and coral carnations in baskets, palms and ferns. The bride's parents gave a brief reception following the ceremony in the church parlors, attended by about 150 guests. Let Brophy's Be .Your Guide District Meeting Held in Medford; Unique Decorations The Medford letter carriers and their auxiliary were hosts November 12 to a state district meeting held in the Rogue room of the Medford hotel. Under the direction of Mrs. John Lynch, the room was dec orated around the theme of the original pony express from St. Joseph to San Francisco, 1859 to 1861. Decorations used were a saddle loaned by Gibson Sad dlery, miniature horses, horse shoes, and flowers. Following the banquet, Larry Rose introduced the guests, R. Eugene Morrison, Salem, state president; Arthur Lindholm, Portland, state organizer; and Charles N. Coyle, Portland, mem ber of the board of directors of the National Sick Benefit asso ciation. The Three talked to the group about organization and ef ficient service. Attending from out of town were members from Ashland and Grants Pass. Local officers of the state present were Larry Rose, member of the state executive board and Christine Rose, state treasurer. Medford Wesleyans Hear Invitation From Ashland Group An invitation from the Ash land guild to attend a meeting in their church was received at the last meeting of the Ruth Es ther Wesleyan Service guild of the Methodist church. The group met in the home of Mrs. Maxine Anderson on Hillcrest road. The Ashland guild made their invitation for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29. Miss Jeanette Smith will be fea tured speaker, talking on her recent trip to the Philippines. At the Medford guild meeting, Miss Abbie Sturdevant led devo tions, and Mrs. Florence Reniker gave the second part of a book study on American Indians. Plans were completed for the booth in the Christmas Festival to be held Dec. 6. Assisting Mrs. Anderson were Mrs. Millie Johnson, Mrs. Ruth Gilbertson and Mrs Wilma Pea-body. Medford's Finest Jewelers and Silversmiths A Sunday, November 27, 1955 Formal Rites Held By Honor Society The Epsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, national honor society for women teachers, held a formal initiation at the Med ford hotel, at 4:30 pm, Novem ber 19 Those initiated were Miss Dorothy Dymocg, second grade teacher at Redwood school in Grants Pass; Mrs. Gertrude Holmes, social studies at Mc Laughlin Junior High school in Medford; and Mrs. Clara Fader, first grade teacher at Walker school in Ashland. Following the initiation, Mrs. Esther Fliegel briefly explained the aims and purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma. At 6 p.m., the initiates were guests of the society at a banr quet in the hotel. Mrs. Kathryn Stancliffe, president of the chap ter, acted as toastmistress. The group practiced songs to be sung at a state convention in Medford next April. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Maxine Smith, Mrs. Bertha Stephens, Mrs. Marjorie Butler, Mrs. Alice Gay, Mrs. Olive Fountain, Miss Anna Laura Honts, and Mrs. Blanche Canode. CBPW Announce Meeting Change The Christian Business and Professional Women announce a change in the time of their monthly prayer service for the work of the local council and that of the missionaries spon sored by the group. Beginning Nov. 28, they will meet at the noon hour at the First Baptist church annex, North Central avenue at Fifth street. The an nex will be open from 11:30 a.m., and those who desire to do so may take sack lunches. Cof fee will be served. Mrs. Gertrude Neff, newly appointed prayer chairman, will have charge of the hour. Those who desire to come may feel free to do so during part or all of the lunch hour. The meetings will be held at the same hour the last Monday of each month. ' A crumb pie crust will hold together better if it is chilled in the pan for 24 hours before the filling is added.
