He was presented a trophy Friday evening by Mrs. Kathryn Thomas, president of the local chapter, and secretary to Mr. Gar ner, during an annual Boss night banquet held at Jackson hotel. Shown looking on is Robert Shaw, last year's "boss." Mr. Garner is president of the Cal-Ore Machinery company. Mr. Shaw is secretary-treasurer of the Teamsters and Chauffeurs and Helpers union. Plans Being Made f or Spring PTA Convention Plans are already being formed for the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers conven tion to be held in Eugene, April 17, 18, and 19. This year's emphasis will be placed on PTA techniques, and 13 workshops on the subject have been set up. Facilities of the University of Oregon, parti cularly Erb Memorial building, will be used for workshops and exhibits, and the Eugene high school auditorium for general sessions. The Eugene hotel will serve as registration h e a d.-quarters. Attendance is expected to reach 1,300. On April 16, the day preceding the conference, the state executive committee, board of managers, and presi dents of county councils will hold meetings. Mrs. Ross Doty, Eugene, jun ior vice-president, Region IV, is chairman of the convention man agement committee as well as the local planning committee. Mrs. Lloyd Edwards, Spring field, president of the Lane coun ty council, is her co-chairman. Head of the convention program committee is Mrs. Jennelle Moorhead, Eugene, also hospi tality and room representative chairman and former president of the Oregon congress. Mrs. Ray Knudson, Prineville, has been elected junior vice president, Region IV, central Oregon district. Mrs. J. W. Staggs, Milton-Freewater, presi dent of the Oregon congress, has been appointed by Governor Paul Patterson to serve on the Governor's committee on child ren and youth, newly reactivat ed. Mrs. Otto Notdurft, Portland, state PTA health chairman, is serving on the Oregon Advisory Committee on Salk vaccine. Mrs. Clyde Gideon, Portland, legislation chairman of the Ore gon congress, has been elected to serve on the Oregon legislative group. Mrs. S. W. Meserve, Port land, junior vice-president, Re gion II, is the congress' repre sentative to the National Con ference on rural health. PartyHails Ninth Birthday Maralyn Sue Anderson was hostess for her-two sisters, a brother, and 16 friends on her ninth birthday at a party Nov. 11. The party was held in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W. Anderson, 742 McAndrews rd. Several games were played. Mrs. D. K. West To Speak Thursday At Jacksonville Jacksonville Mrs. D. Kirk- land West, wife of the pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Medford, will speak Thursday, December 1, to members of the Women's association of Jackson ville First Presbyterian church at the church. Also invited are members of Central Point and Phoenix Presbyterian churches. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Tea will be served and a pro gram is planned. , Mrs. W est will tell of a recent world trip. All women interested are invited. Extension Groups Plan Sessions; Activities Listed Final gift wrapping lessons and project lessons on main dish meals will be given at coming meetings of the Butte Falls, Westside, Griffin Creek, and Rogue Elk Home Extension units. Mrs. Anzel Conley and Mrs. Don Smith will lead gift wrap ping sessions for the Butte Falls unit, to meet at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 1, at the home of Mrs. Earl Rem sen. Each member is to bring a gift wrapped box and laminated ribbon for the "rose bow." The project lesson will be led by Mrs. Duane Burton and Mrs. Andrew Homstra. Favorite re cipes, paper,, pencil, and table service must be brought. Child care will be furnished by Mrs. Ted Riddell. Everyone is invited and new members are welcome. Main dish meals and gift wrapping lessons in the morn ing and gift exchange and social hour after luncheon will feature the Westside unit meeting. The group will gather at the home of Mrs. Chester Wendt on Ross lane, at 10:30 a.m., December 1. Mrs. Don Ross, Mrs. Ernest Niedermeyer, Mrs. Edward Leach, and Mrs. Edward Lull will conduct the morning les sons. Main dish meals lessons will be given by Mrs. Lewis Clark and Mrs. Lloyd Hamlin. Food prepared during demonstrations will be served for luncheon. Those who have not been con tacted are asked to bring either salad or dessert. Mrs. Randolph Hugdahl and Mrs. Glen Allen will handle gift wrapping lessons. Everyone is asked to bring packages and wrapping materials. There will be a Christmas gift exchange. Members of the Rogue Elk unit are asked to bring sack lunch for the meeting at the home of Mrs. Robert Chamber lain, 10:30 a.m. November 30. Coffee will be furnished. Mrs. William Bishop and Mrs. Ralph Lane will present the sec ond lesson in basket weaving. Gift wrapping lessons will be given, and members are asked to bring a box, wrapping paper, and ribbon. Sorority Chapter To Hold Food Sale At Shoe Store Alpha Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority held its reg ular meeting Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Edward Bun nell, 111 Portland avenue. Mrs. J. C. Chapman gave the cultural program, "Introduc tions and Invitations," and ex plained to the group the correct forms of introduction and uses of formal and informal invita tions. During the business meeting, the chapter voted to participate as a marching unit in the Christ mas parade sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Plans were discussed to hold a baked food sale and bazaar Wednesday evening, Nov. 30, at Karl's Shoe store. Mrs. Donald Lue and Mrs. Maynard Paup were appointed chairmen of committees which will make Christmas decorations to sell at the bazaar. Prizes for bridge, canasta and pinochle which followed were awarded to Mrs. Marcus MeKen zie, Mrs. Jack Middleton, Mrs. G. J. Adlfinger, Mrs. Donald Lue, Mrs. David Legg, Mrs. Ray mond Morton, Mrs. Charles Shepherd, Mrs. Edward Bunnell, Mrs. Roger Note and Mrs. George Johns. Guests for the evening were Mrs. Charles Shepherd and Mrs. Jack Middleton. Refreshments were served by Irs. Bunnell. The dinner was initiated in 1916 by Noble Grand Mrs. Nellie Perl, and has taken place every year since. Newly elected officers are Mrs, J. D. Brummond, noble grand; Mrs. Homer Vinzant, vice grand; Mrs. Fred Daugherty, re cording secretary; Mrs. Ruby Applegate, financial secretary; and Mrs. L. A. Howard, treas urer. The . evening's program was planned by Mrs. Minnie Bryant. Flag ceremonies were followed by songs and a skit by the FL Girls. Mrs. Daugherty, secretary, called roll. Mrs. Clarence Jordan and her committee served ' a baked ham dinner, and a com mittee presented Clarence Jor dan a gift of money for his serv ice and help during the past year. Visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Art Kellert, Kirby, and Mrs. El bert B. McNew, a member from Idaho. Mrs. W. S. Sweet was voted a transfer member from Klamath Falls. Table decorations carried out the homecoming theme with small houses at each place. A bazaar and cooked food sale is planned for the City Appliance store, 127 North Central avenue.
