City Patrolmen Attend School in Police Training Two Medford police patrol men are attending a five-day school for basic police training at Roseburg this week. Medford Police Chief Charles Champlin Is an instructor in public rela tions and traffic at the school, which will be conducted in sev en Oregon cities. Patrolmen Jack L. Sanders and Donald L. Pursel , are at tending the school, which is part of a program of police training sponsored by the Oregon assoc iation of city police officers and the state sheriff's associatiton. Cooperating in the program are the federal bureau of investiga tion, the department of state po lice, the League of Oregon Cities and the Bureau of Municipal Re search and Service. e5The annual school is for of fiajrs who have been employed by police departments within the past year. The school covers bas ic police subjects with instruc tors from the FBI, state police and police departments of Portland, Salem and Medford. Instructions cover law of ar rest, search and seizure, mech anics of arrest, report writing, foot and mobile patrol, traffic enforcement and crime investi gation. similar schools will be held in Klamath Falls, Pendleton, Al bany, Coos Bay, Eugene and Salem during November and December. Broadcasting Conference Will Attract Seniors Eugene (U.R) The second annual Oregon State broadcast ing conference is expected to at tract more than 100 high school seniors from all parts of Ore gon Saturday. The one-day conference, held at the University of Oregon school of journalism, is spon sored jointly by the Oregon state Broadcasters association and the journalism school of the Uni versity of Oregon. Tnber Sales Hearing ' Scheduled at Klamath Klamath Falls (U.R) Rep resentatives of a government committee on federal timber were in Klamath Falls yesterday completing plans for a hearing on mber sales policies to be held here Nov. 15. The hearing will be the second of a series scheduled for the ! Pacific Northwest. First hearing J will be at Redding, Calif., Nov. I 14. The series concludes Dec. 1 at Spokane. Highest lax Statements Mailed in Multnomah Portland (U.R) Current tax statements were en route to Multnomah county real and per sonal property owners today with the highest amount due on record. The tax accounts repre sent a roll of $50,554,437, which is $3,450,150 over last year's roll. Some 200,000 statements were mailed or sent to banks and mortgage companies. Chesaning, Mich. U-E Mrs. Nina Gilbert, 75, found 10 years of retirement more than she could take. She took a re fresher course in teaching at Central Michigan College this summqj- and began her 42nd year as a school-marm this fall.
