This tale, in one form or an other has been a standard fable for sensational magazines and newspapers. Everyone is fa miliar with the imaginative ill lustrations, the mighty beast bar ing his dripping fangs at pur suers while the shapely body of his captive is draped over I one of hi3 shoulders. I always thought it was a bit of early science fiction myself but a few words with Major Daguet almost changed my mind. For Major Daguet is not the man to fool or to be fooled. "She was becoming badly hurt by the beatings and she decided to risk her life by trying to escape. When the ape went into the forest one day, she got down from the tree and stumbled to ward her village where she was found by her friends. "She is about 30 and -there are certain details of her story which she told to missionaries and the head men as well as my: self which it would be impos sible for a native to invent.
