SIXTEEN MEDFQRD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, June 24, 195S Chamber Directors Voice Disapproval Of Local Dog Races The board of directors of the Jackson County Chamber ol rnmimcrec has unanimously en dorsed a Medford association pe- j tition condemning a proposal for dog racing in the county. Howard Boyd of the Merch ants association read the peti tion, stating that it and the board's endorsement would be presented to the county court at the dog racing hearing today. Flight Approved The board also gave unani mous aproval to a proposal that the chamber sponsor a goodwill "Pears to Pineapples" flight to the Hawaiian islands later this year. A TransOcean Air lines bid of $276 per person round trip was accepted. The price includes hotel and air meals. One free seat will be furnished for every 15 seats sold. The tour will be coordinated with a stepped-up membership program, headed by Ken Mc Donald. The free seats will be prizes for the person bringing in the most new chamber members. Report on Trip Mrs. Bert Pree reported on a Greeters' committee goodwill trip to Crater Lake lodge last week. The 30 making the trip were entertained by Harry Smith Sr. and Harry Smith Jr., operators of the, lodge. Several members took advantage of an invitation to ride in a Tucker Sno-Cat. Don McNeil, chamber man ager, indicated there is a good chance of bringing a Greyline tour to this area during August. The tour will include scenic attraction, Medford, and the Shakespearean Festival. Chamber President John Pletsch presided. Next meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. breakfast on July 14. Congressman Judd Scheduled in Fall By K-F Club Here Congressman Walter H. Judd, who is also a physician, a for mer missionary in the Orient, and a highly - regarded public speaker, will give the first talk of the season for the Rogue Val. ley Knife and Fork club next fall, it was announced today. From 1925 to 1938, Dr. Judd was a medical missionary in China, and since that time has lectured widely in the United States on problems of the Orient.. He is one of the best informed men in Congress on the subject. He has been a prac ticing physician since he receiv ed his degree in medicine in 1923, and for several years was on the surgery staff of the Mayo clinic. He served in the field ar tillery in World War I. He was elected to Congress from Minnesota in 1943, and has been reelected each two years since. He is the ranking GOP member of the foreign affairs committee of the House. Dr. Judd's talk to the local club is scheduled for Oct. 10. The second speaker of, the season will be Norman Thomas, author, columnist, lecturer and often candidate for the presi dency on the Socialist ticket. At one time an ordained Pres byterian minister, Thomas is better known for his activities in the political field and in anti war movements. His talk here is scheduled Oct. 31. Malayan Government Rejects Parley Offer Singapore (U.R) The govern ment of British Malaya rejected today a round-robin Communist offer to negotiate an end to the jungle war against Red guerrilla terrorists. The Communist offer came fn a letter mailed from Haad Yai, Thailand, and was signed by Ng Heng who claimed to be a mem ber of the Communist high com mand in Malaya. The letter proposed the calling of a round table conference of politicians, union leaders and other popular representatives to talk peace in hopes of ending the war that has been going on since 1948.
