At Community Three surgery patients were reported today at Community hospital. They are Mrs. Matilda Losey, 555 Midway rd., Mrs. Paul Dole, Prospect, and Oscar Minnick, Central Point. Visits Miss Doreen Horn buckle arrived in Medford from Roseburg this week to spend three weeks visiting relatives. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Hornbuckle, former residents of Prospect, Ore. In Illinois Frank Wood and Ben Graves, salesmen for Hau pert Tractor company, are in Springfield, 111., at the Allis Chalmers factory where they are attending a company-sponsored school. They left June 10 and were to be there for about two weeks. - Special Communication A special communication of Cen tral Point Lodge 135, AF&AM, will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday. The EA degree will be conferred. All Masons are welcome, accord ing to William H. Bishop, mas ter of the lodge, and refresh ments will be served. . Hold Dance Shady Cove Vet erans of Foreign Wars post and auxiliary will hold a dance in the Post hall Saturday night at Shady Cove. Injured John Dickson, 251 Beatty st., was admitted yester day afternoon to Osteopathic hospital for treatment of an in jury he received when a three pound piece of steel struck him on the head above his right eye, attendants said today. He is re ported to have suffered a pos sible concussion. V Visit Mr. and Mrs. R. Knud- son, Klamath, Calif., were all- day visitors yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. McBeth, Jacksonville. The families formerly were neigh bors at Klamath and the visitors were en route home after visit ing in San Luis Obispo, Calif., with a brother and a sister of Mr. and Mrs. McBeth. k Found Innocent William Bergren, 307 Meade st., Ash land, yesterday was found inno cent of drunk driving charges brought against him May by Medford city police. Bergren was tried in Medford city court by Judge Janes M. Main. There was no jury. Attorney for the defendant was O. H. Bengtson, Medford, and Kent Blackhurst represented the city. D. Hou desheldt, local Navy recruiter. Junior college graduates apply ing for enlistment in the Navy will be guaranteed the opportu nity of attending one of the Navy's top technical training schools. Selection of the par ticular school for each enlistee will be determined by testing, counseling, interviewing and the individual's preference coupled with his academic train ing. All Navy recruiting stations are authorized to accept applica tions under this new program. ENLIST 1 Two Jackson county men en listed June 22 for the Navy High school training program avail able to all high school graduates, E. D. Houdesheldt, Navy re cruiter, reported today. They are Stanley Kalapus Jr., 2156 Hillcrest rd., Medford, and Don ald Lee Myers, Box 216, Shady Cove. They went by plane to San Diego to begin their train ing. Obituaries FRANKLIN FAWCETT Services for Franklin P. Faw cett, 75, of 205 Tripp st., who died Thursday morning, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William C. Piper, of the First Christian church, officiat ing. Committal will be in Sis kiyou Memorial park. The deceased was born July 13, 1879, in Trinity county, Calif., the son of the late James and Joanne Fawceit. For sev eral years he carried the mails in Humboldt county, Calif., and at the age of 21 he moved to southern Oregon, living in the Applegate area for several years. In 1901 he moved to Crescent City, Calif., where on May 3, 1911, he was married to Cora M. Morrison, who , sur vives. He was employed as a blacksmith from 1914 until 1918 by the old Brookings Co., of Brookings, Ore. Later he re turned to southern Oregon, working for the Medford Cor poration from 1935 to 1940. In 1940 he moved to Valsetz, Ore., where he was employed by the Valsetz Lumber Co. until 1953, when he retired. Other survivors include two sons, Frank W., Medford, and Mervyn J., Valsetz, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. pora Coy, Grants Pass,, Ore., and Mrs. Nellie Foote, Salem, Ore., and five grandchildren. French Round Up Algerian Rebels Algiers, Algeria (U.R) Alger ian authorities today reported "thousands" of suspected nation alist rebels rounded up in the biggest security operation by the French since they conquered Algeria more than 100 years ago. Land, sea and air forces par ticipated in the countrywide sweep against terrorist forces. At least eight suspected rebels were killed. Youth, Five Brothers, Unhurt in Accident A sedan driven by Orland El ton Calhoun, 16, Jacksonville, and having as passengers the driver's five . brothers, over turned on Stewart ave. at about 8:35 p.m. yesterday, according to a state police report. There were no injuries listed. Calhoun lost control of the car as it rounded a curve, the report said. Damage was confined to the left side and top of the car. MYSTERY Open Throughout The Year Korean 'Casanova' May Escape Charge Seoul, Korea (U.R) A South Korean "Casanova," who proud ly admitted to charges of seduc ing 70 women, may escape trial because hone of his alleged vic tims are willing to testify against him, police said today. . The man was arrested last month. The trial was originally scheduled for this week but has been postponed ' in view of the difficulty in finding a complainant. Portland SP Chief Retires from Post Portland (U.R) Retirement of L. P. Hopkins, superintendent of Southern Pacific's Portland division for the past 11 years, was announced here today. He will be succeeded by L. R. Smith, a veteran of 30 years with the line and assistant superin tendent since 1948. Hopkins started his railroad career 48 years ago as a laborer in the San Francisco car repair shops. During his years in Portland, Hopkins also served three terms as president of the Northern Pa cific Terminal Co., the firm which operates the Portland rail terminal. He and Mrs. Hopkins plan a South American cruise as their first activities after his retirement. Street Construction Projects To Start Construction on street proj ects awarded at the last city council meeting will begin with in two weeks, after contracts sent to the contractor are signed, according to Vernon Thorpe, city public works director. The projects are on Hamilton st., between 13th st. and 106 feet south of lyth st.; Jackson st. be tween Lindley ave. and Berke ley Way; and Park ave. between Catherine st. and Stewart ave. The streets will be 44 feet wide, according to the proposed street program prepared by state highway department last fall, Thorpe said. Oveross Trial Jury Completed Salem (U.R) The nine wom en and three men chosen to serve on the jury in the murder trial of Casper A. Oveross were taken today to the Silverton area home where Ervin Kaser was shot to death Feb. 17. The jury, with two alternates, was completed last night. While in the area south of Sil verton, the jury visited the home of James Gilham where Oveross is reported to have visited on the night Kaser was killed. They also visited several other points in Silverton where Oveross was re ported to have been seen. Opening statements in the trial were to be made this after noon. Truck Driver Held In Symonds Slaying Singapore (U.R) A Singa pore judge today ordered the Chinese truck driver arrested last week as a suspect in the mob murder of United Press staff correspondent Gen Sym onds remanded in police cus tody for another week. On Gah Too, 25, is charged with being a member of the "un lawful assembly" that beat Symonds to death May May 12 during Communist-i n s p i r e d riots. Officers said Lynn has signed a statement in which he admits passing checks totaling about $50 in several Medford restaurants. He will appear in municipal court tomorrow on the vagrancy charge.
