MedfordUI3Tribune sipcdmts Snead Triumphs In Round Robin Great Neck, N.Y. (U.P.) Sam my Snead, who won the oddly cored event when it was first held in 1937, captured the Palm Beach Round-Robin golf tourna ment for the fourth time Sunday by blazing to a course record in his final circuit. The 43-year-old star from White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., whizzed over the Deepdale Golf Club course in a five-under-par 65 Sunday to clip one stroke off the course record he held jointly with Julius Boros, Ted Kroll, and Cary Middlecoff. Under the Round-Robin point system, Snead finished the com petition with a score of "plus 46." He enjoyed a comfortable margin over Johnny Palmer of Badin, N.C., at plus 22, and Peter Thomson of Australia -at , plus 18. 35,000 Better Ed Furgol, Berg New York (U.R) Approxi mately 35,000 golfers wore tags today saying, "I beat Ed Furgol" or "I beat Patty Berg." The tags were awarded those who beat the U. S. open cham pions in Saturday's national Golf Day firing from coast to coast. In the competition, golfers who paid a $1 entry fee to the Ameri can Red Cross were given handi caps in their efforts to better scores posted the same day by Furgol and Miss Berg at San Francisco. Furgol shot a two-over-par 72, Miss Berg a one-over-women's par 77 at the Olympic Club. Mike Shciff of Detroit had a 53 net with a score of 86 and a handicap of 33 for the lowest score reported so far. Second best was Dave Rundle of Fresno, Calif., with 81-2655.
