Snead Triumphs
In Round Robin
Great Neck, N.Y. (U.P.) Sam
my Snead, who won the oddly
cored event when it was first
held in 1937, captured the Palm

by blazing to a course record in
his final circuit.
The 43-year-old star from
White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.,
whizzed over the Deepdale Golf
Club course in a five-under-par
65 Sunday to clip one stroke off
the course record he held jointly
with Julius Boros, Ted Kroll,
and Cary Middlecoff.
Under the Round-Robin point
system, Snead finished the com
petition with a score of "plus
46." He enjoyed a comfortable
margin over Johnny Palmer of
Badin, N.C., at plus 22, and
Peter Thomson of Australia -at
, plus 18.

Francisco.
Furgol shot a two-over-par 72,

Chiefs, Senators
Double Winners
By UNITED PRESS
The league-leading Wenatchee
Chiefs returned home Monday to
face second-place Salem, still
four games ahead of the Senators
in the Northwest League race.
Both Wenatchee and Salem
swept . twin-bills Sunday. The
Chiefs, behind the brilliant pitch
ing performances of John Mar
shall and Bob Roberts, set back
the Eugene Emeralds, 5-2 and
5-0.
Salem won both games with
Yakima. Bud Whitson and Bill
Dials teamed up to hold the
Bears to only three hits in the
seven-inning opener to win, 2-0.
The Senators took the nightcap,
7-1.
In the other contest, at Kenne-
wick, Nap Gulley smashed a
four-run homer to highlight a
seven-run splurge in the eighth
inning that proved more than
enough to give last-place Spo
kane a 16-10 win over Tri-City's
Braves.
Louise Suggs
Wins at Reading
Reading, Pa. (U.R) She was
calm. She was cool. And she col
lected $1,000 for four days work
in the warm sunshine.
That's the picture of Louise
Suggs, the Cincinnati miss who
made a sensational comeback on
the final round to win the Wom
en's Eastern Professional Golf
tournament at the Berkshire
Country club Sunday.
Miss Suggs, starting the last
round of the 72-hole tourney
with a seven-stroke disadvant
age, fired a two-under par 69 to
nip Fay Crocker of Montevideo
Uruguay, by 291 to 292.

unable to muster sufficient
strength for their first official
game in the Rogue Valley base
ball League and Camp White
walked away with the encounter
13 to 0 on the local lot Sunday
afternoon.
Wayne Gillaspey and Bill Cald
well started off with homers for
Camp White while Grants Pass
batters went down in order on
strikes against the pitching of
Keith Johnson.

Convicted Murderer
Walks Away From Jail
Salem- (U.R) Robert Bob,
convicted murderer who was re

Indian walked away
while with a work gang near

Guiducci Gets Top Money
In Emigrant Lake Regatta
Ernie Guiducci, Crescent
City, Calif., was the leading
money winner yesterday as
some 50 speedboats performed
before a disappointingly small
crowd in the Western Speed
boat association and Medford
Junior Chamber of Commerce
regatta at Emigrant lake.
Guiducci won both heats and
the winner's trophy in D utility
class and also won both heats
when D utility and service boats
combined to make an event. He
got $50. The utilities were al
lowed to step up and vie for the
money. D service top trophy
went to Frank Hanns, Eugene.
Bob Brownell won one heat
and was second in the other for
the main prize in A hydro.
D hydro provided the best
race of the day with a full al
lowable entry of 12 boats and
Johnny Hartley, Coquille, took
the Pellet perpetual trophy in
competition which was bunched
all the way. He was first in one
heat and second in the other.
Ward Upsets
Doc Reinke, Salem, nabbed
the first heat and first trophy in
B utility. In this event Gib
Ward, Salem, upset for the only
spill of the day. Ward won both
heats and the main trophy in B
hydro however. Hanns was sec
ond in both heats of D service.
Bill Barnes, Medford, wrecked
a propeller and was out of this
