SIX MEDrORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Monday, June 8, 1955 Ike Receives Present of Livestock for New Farm Gettysburg, Pa. ttl.R) The sun was lowering in the west over the rolling Pennsylvania countryside and two Black An gus cows with a straggling calf waddled along the edge of a mall pond. "That's a hen party for you', said President Eisenhower. "Not a bull in the bunch." The Chief Executive looked contentedly around the lush, green acreage of his farm, at the pristine white walls and pas tel blue shutters of his new house and down toward the barn where a newly arrived Berk ihire sow grunted happily in the hay. He shrugged his shoulders and turned to a Secret Service man standing nearby. "Well," said the President. "It's about time to get back to the salt mine." He crawled into his car and sped to a nearby grass landing strip, boarded a tiny two-engined plane and flew back to Wash ington Friday after a happy, bucolic afternoon when for a few hours, his most serious problem was how to trap the raccoon that has been eating his duck eggs. The real reason for the Presi dent's flying trip to the farm was to receive a series of gifts dear to his heart the two An gus cows and the calf, plus the new sow more than 300 pounds of Indiana raised porker due to drop a new litter in July. One cow, Millarden Miss Bur gess 17, and her March calf were the gifts of the Brandywine Aberdeen Angus association, presented by Neal D. Ivey of Malvern, Pa. Then came Elden Holsapple, AUTOS LENGTHENED Detroit (U.R) In the past 14 years the average lengths of the lowest-priced models of all auto mobile makes have grown 6.1 inches. In 1941, the Automobile Manufacturers' association re ported, the average length was 200.6 inches compared with 206.7 for present models. 18-year-old junior 4-H club lead er from Mitchell, Ind., with his prize Berkshire sow, "Belle of Fishing C." Litter Predicted Eldon predicted firmly and confidently that Belle would present the President with a lit ter of 10 pigs about July 15. Mr. Eisenhower promised to be at the farm for the event. The next arrival was "Black bird XIV," a 1,000-pound An gus. Blackbird was the gift of the Heart of Ohio Aberdeen Angus association, and present ed by Fred and Herbert Penick, brothers of Hebron, O. 6 tTii-i4-i8-3a H42-50-55 star gaze:rOI aiks MAR 22 2- 9-28-31 TAUtUS APR. 21 MAY 21 MAY 22 JUNE 22 CANCCt JUNE 23 JULY 23 ii nan no I JULY 24 -.AUG. 23 12-13-24-301 69-78-8341 VNOO AUG. 24 I SEPT 22; 4- 7-10-35 37-41-74 -By CLAY R.
