About 200 guests were present for the double ring service, read by the Rev. George R. V. Bolster. daughter of SOC Grads Plan Reunion At School Ashland Dozens of early-day graduates of Southern Oregon colleges are expected at an old timers reunion Saturday and Sunday. May 21 and 22. Scheduled for the two days' get together was announced by Worth Harvey (class of 1905), Eugene, and Dr. Herman A. Scullen (class of 1906), Corvallis. Saturday evening. May 21, an informal reception is to be held at the home of SOC President. Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson at 610 Elkador street, Ashland. Sunday morning. May 22, at P a.m., the Southern Oregon Normal school graduates will breakfast together at Susanne Homes hall on campus. At 11 .m. they will have been in vited to attend the 1955 baccal aureate set-vices to be held at First Christian church, Ashland, with the baccalaureate sermon being given by the Rev. O. Wen dell Herbison. At 1 p.m. a reunion dinner is to be heid at Susanne Homes Hall with Dr. Arthur S. Taylor serving as master of ceremonies Roland Patks. SOC graduate and Ashland Senior High school principal, wil speak. Mrs. Jeanne W. Joy will sing. All SONS graduates have been invited to attend the lunch eon. Plan Festival On Thursday "Let There Be Music" is the theme of the 1955 Elementary Music festival to be presented by Medford city schools Thurs day evening, May 19th at the Senior High school stadium. The massed grade school orch estra and bands will open the program. Forth grade singers and physical education students from the fifth and sixth grades will depict a musical map, which extends through the British Isles, Scandinavian countries, southern Europe, South America and back home to Oregon. Com bined fifth and sixth grade chorusues will take "Music Through the Year" in such oldi favorites as "School Days," "Skating Song," and "Come To The Fair." The final section entitled, "Our Musical Heritage," will feature the elementary choruses, the Senior High School A cap pella choir and a special brass ensemble from the high school. Well over 1750 students from the Medford city schools are ex pected to participate in this biennial music festival. Mrs. Lorraine Veidt Evensen is gen eral coordinator and in charge of the vocal groups. I. A. Mirick is in charge of the instrumental groups and Lee Ragsdale, dance selections. 4 Republican Women Plan Tea Monday A silver tea will be held by Republican Women Monday, May 16 at the home of Mrs. Ro bert J. Keeney, 4126 Colver road, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Philip Lowry and Mrs. E. A. Littrell, wives of Jackson coun ty legislators, will provide the program. Women who want transporta tion or direction to the home of Mrs. Keeney should meet at the First Presbyterian church at 1:45 p.m. Anyone interested is invited and reservations should be made by telephoning Mrs. Rex Note, 3-1644. .; Family HoldT Medford Reunion Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Nordstrom and Arthur Nordstrom left Wed nesday for their home in St. Paul, Minn., after spending a week here with their brother, O. R. Nordstrom and Mrs. Nord strom, 2638 Lone Pine road. This was the first reunion of the brothers in 34 years. Also, here was a sister and brotheivin-law, Mr. and Mrs. George C. Obert, Yakima, Wash. The O. R Nordstroms came to Medford 22 years ago from St. Paul. The bride is a Mr. and Mrs. James Zumwalt, 42 Rose avenue, and the bride groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Holloway, 31 Chest nut street. The reception which followed was in the parish hall. For the ceremony the bride wore a gown of white nylon with ruffled skirt and jacket of lace with matching cap and veil. She carried white carnations and orchids. Miss Sharon Zumwalt was her sister's honor attendant and also attending the bride were Mrs. James McDaniels, Ashland, Miss Shirley Kenner and Miss Binnie Mae Stone, cousin of the bride from Klamath Falls. Miss Zum walt wore a pink net frock with pink accessories and carried a fan of pink carnations. Miss Kenner's gown was of orchid net and her flowers were an old-fashioned bouquet. Mrs. Mc Daniel wore a pink frock and Miss Stone wore green and they carried bouquets of matching flowers. Flower girls were Peggy Ves sey and Becky Brown. Peggy wore a dress of pale blue with white bonnet and shoes and Becky's dress was of yellow worn with white bonnet and flowers. Brian Grant Stone, cou sin of the bride, was ring-bearer. Mr. Zumwalt gave his daugh ter in marriage and Ira McDon ald, uncle of the bridegroom, was best man. Floyd Holloway, brother of the bridegroom, and Junior McDonald, cousin, seated the guests. Miss Emily Gannaway provid ed the wedding music. White stock and calla lillies decorated the church, and ar rangements of yellow iris and talisman roses decorated the re ception tables. The bride's mother wore a gown of champagne lace with talisman rose corsage, and the bridegroom's mother was attir ed in a pale blue eyelet embroid ery dress worn with -pink rose bud corsage. Miss Nancy Hamilton cut the wedding cake and Miss Georgia Ashby served punch. Miss Phyl lis Watkins took charge of the guest book and Mrs. Paul Kleu ter. Palm Springs, Calif., poured coffee. The newlywed traveled to Portland for their wedding trip and are living in Klamath Falls. The bride attended Medford schools and Southern Oregon college. The bridegroom attend ed Medford schools, Oregon State and Southern Oregon col lege and is employed by Safe way stores. Following the wedding cere mony out-of-town guests were entertained at a buffet supper at the home of the bride's par ents. Here for the wedding were Mrs. Eugene Bishop, aunt of the bride from Palm Springs and Mrs. Amy Stubbs, San Francisco, another aunt; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stone, Klamath Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zumwalt, Kla math Falls. Seth Bullis Home From Trip East Seth Bullis returned to his home on Florence street last week after a vacation -of more than three weeks spent in a trip east and south. Mr. Bullis visited his son-in-law and daugh ter, Comdr. and Mrs. John Par sons and their family at Falls Church, Va., near Washington, D.C. Commander Parsons is assign ed to duty with the United States at the Pentagon. While there Mr. Bullis at tended a meeting of the public works committee of the U.S. con gress during which Representa tive Harris Ellsworth of Oregon presented information on bills which call for construction of the Green Peter and Cougar dams on Oregon rivers. Mr. Bullis made the trip by Greyhound bus and stated that one of his interesting experi ences was traveling over the Dormer Pass in a snowstrom which tied up traffic for several hours. Returns Eagle Point Jesse D. Elder, route 1, box 334. Eagle Point, returned to Medford Tuesday after making a trip to El Paso, Tex. He left May 5 for Texas and on the return trip was ac companied by his daughter, Mrs. Melba Poitevint and the Elders' granddaughter, Sandra. They made the trip by plane. 1 a it" J 1 t ' A il Mr. and Mrs. James LeRoy Holloway (Landis-Shangle pholo) Oberst-Brown Wedding Service Held in Ashland " Talent Shirley Brown be came the bride of Norman Oberst in 4 o'clock afternoon rites performed April 30 at the home of Judge Nelle Burns at Ashland. Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Cannon of Ashland. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Isom of Talent, end the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oberst of Bunker hill, Coos Bay. The bride, given in marriage by her father,, wore a pink sheath dress with small white hat and her accessories also were white. Her corsage was a purple orchid. Mrs. Cannon wore a navy blue linen dress with matching hat and accessories. Her flowers were a corsage of white carna tions. Mrs. Isom wore a dress of navy and baby blue shades and her corsage was of white carna tions. In addition to the bride's parents and the attendants,-her sister, Miss Carol Howard, also attended the ceremony. A wedding supper was served at the Plaza cafe in Ashland. The bride has resigned from her work as a copy writer at radio station KMED where she has been employed for the past year. The bridegroom is an an nouncer at the same radio sta tion. The newlyweds are living at 1315 Locust street. Miss Norma Granger Is Queen Of 1 955 Junior -Senior Prom Miss Norma Granger, daugh ter of Mrs. Nellie Gran ger, 2303 Spring street, was named queen of the 1955 Junior Senior prom of Medford High school held last night at the school. Miss Granger, a senior, received her crown from Michael DeVore, president of the student body. Queen Norma's court was com posed of Miss Kathleen Guiley, Miss Pat Read and Miss Lanora Kyker, seniors; Miss Pat Crofoot, Miss Barbara Johnson, Miss Shirley Kenner and Miss Donna Halvorsen, juniors. "Candyland" was the theme of the dance. The queen's throne represented a huge box of candy and giant lollipops were ar ranged around the orchestra platform. Manzanita branches, sprayed with pink and lavender paint, were grouped around the entrances to the gymnasium, and the walls were covered with .mu rals which pictured big ice cream cones and other confections. Miss Crofoot and Al Boardman were cochairmen in charge of the dance, and decorations chair men were Miss Carol Denman and Miss Janet Perry. Other chairmen were Miss Sandra Rob inson, Ron Wisdom, Dave Bos worth, Miss Janet Jamison, John Van Dyke, Miss Marilyn Olson, Miss Maralee Chisholm, Miss Janet Carter, Miss Meredith Foote, Jim Gibson and Jim Cole man. Mrs. Arnel Butler and DeVere Taylor are class advisors. Gary Shaffer is junior class president. A large number of faculty members, school board members and officials and parents were patrons and patronesses for the dance. Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Otto J. Frohn mayer were hosts for a small dinner Wednesday evening which honored Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carpenter, entertaining at their home on Spring street. The Carpenters, who formerly lived here, will return to their home in Carmel, Calif., the first of the week after visiting friends and relatives in Medford. Nancy Russell Named Winner Of Scholarship Miss Nancy Russell, a mem ber of the graduating class of Medf ord'Senior High school, was awarded a $100 scholarship Wednesday by Women of Rotary. The presentation was made at a luncheon at Mon Desir dining inn. Officers also were installed at the meeting. The student is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Russell, 120 Newtown street. She plans to at tend Willamette university and later to receive nurse's training at Samuel Merritt hospital at Oakland, Calif. The av ard is the first given by Women of Rotary in Medford. Guests in addition to Miss Rus sell, were Mrs. John Price, Wil liam Price, Mrs. William New- hall and Mrs. C. C. Burgess. Mrs. James Finegan was in stalled president; Mrs. John H. Bunker, vice-president; Mrs. Alex Tummers, secretary, and Mrs. Emmett Bullard, treasurer. Retiring officers are Mrs. Leonard T. Anderson, president; Mrs. Finegan, vice - president; Mrs. Walter Garner, secretary; and Mrs. Ed Haas, treasurer. Miss Gretchen Klomhaus, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. P. Klom haus, Rogue River, was crowned Rose Queen of Pi Kappa Phi at the fraternity's annual Rose Ball April 30. Miss Klomhaus, sophomore member of Delta Delta Delta, was selected for the honor by fraternity members from girls attending the dance. Mothers Visit At Two Schools Chapter to Hold Memorial Service Adarel chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a me morial meeting at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in the Ma sonic hall, Jacksonville. The committee in charge of refreshments is Mesdames E. D. Mclntyre, Fred Baker, Donna Johnson, Bertha Keegan, Joe Mclntyre and Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Griffin. Those visiting OSC include Mrs. H. C. Bates, whose daugh ter, Carol, attends the school; Mrs. Frank Boone, who visited her daughter, Miss Fidelia Boone; Mrs. Robert Hart, who has two daughters, Misses Ann and Sara Hart at the college; Mrs. Orrin L. Brown, who is with her son, Darrell and Mrs. George Stacey who is visiting her daughter. Mr. and Mri. L. G. McLaren are visiting their son, Lewis Jr., at Oregon State college. Among those spending the week end at the University of Oregon are Mrs. Maurice Spatz, who is with her daughter, Miss Marsha Spatz; Mrs. Justin Smith, visiting her son, Justin Jr.; Mrs. E..R. Durno, a guest of her daugh ter, Miss Kaye Durno, and Mrs. Ross Adams, a guest of her daughter, Miss Joy Adams. Mrs. Ed Paschke is spending the week end with Miss Eleanor Leib brand, whose parents left Med ford not long ago to live in Den ver, Colo. Also at the university this week end are Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Frink, visiting their daughter, Miss Meta Jean Frink, and Mrs. Percy Bearden, a guest of her daughter, Miss Joyce Bearden. Lady ElkT- Lady Elks will meet Tuesday, May 17 in the party lounge at the Elks temple for a dessert luncheon and afternoon of cards. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. H. J. Boyd, Mrs. G. G. Stagg and Mrs. A. Wattenburg will be the hostesses. Wives of all Elks lodge members are invited. Barbara Rankin Becomes Bride Of Don Martin Ashland Miss Barbara Lou Rankin, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. C. Petri, 445 Normal avenue, Ashland, became the bride of Don Floyd Martin in double ring rites April 29 at Trinity Episcopal church. The Rev. John L. Thompson III read the cere mony at 8 o'clock in the evening. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Martin, 841 Stewart avenue, Medford. Miss Mary E. Hamilton was the bride's attendant and Mor ton LeRoy was best man. Seating the guests was Jimmy Martin, a brother of the bride groom. . The bride wore a white prin cess style dress with white ac cessories and her hat was of beige and brown flowers. She carried a white Bible with Cecil Brunner rose. Miss Hamilton's dress, also in princess style, was blue and her hat was in matching color. Her accessories were white and her corsage was of white carnations. Pink flowers were used to decorate the alter. Organ music was furnished by Miss Edna Dougherty. A reception was -held at the home of the bride's parents. The couple made their wed ding trip to the Oregon coast and now live at 916 Iowa street in Ashland. The bride attended Ashland Senior high school and the bridegroom received his educa tion at Medford Senior High school, Southern Oregon college and the University of Oregon. He is employed in the milling and planing business as a log scaler.
