national organization which helps women to become effective and intelligent voters and assists in informing them

Women in the News

The spring calendar has been crowded with
many events, some of them large annual parties, at-;
tended by members and guests from all parts of
southern Oregon as well as Medford.
Recent days brought the annual founders' day
banquet of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the annual spring
meeting of PEO chapters in southern Oregon, the an
nual luncheon and style show of Kiwanian Dames, a
gathering of Kappa Alpha Theta members and elec
tion of officers for many groups.
' Among the groups electing officers was
Woman's Society of Christian Service of First Metho
dist church, an organization which has about 275
members. Two subsidiary organizations, Ruth
Esther and Susannah Wesleyan Service guilds, hav
an additional 60 members.
Another large organization which recently held
election was Medford League of Women Voters.
During the past year this group has sponsored speak
ers on such topics as individual liberties, United Na
tions, education, city government and trade, carried
on an extensive campaign in favor of legislation for
state inspection of meat, and conducted a study of
public schools and a survey on trade.
In addition a group studied constitutional re
vision and last fall a voters' service committee work
ed to inform the voters on matters concerning candi
dates and measures.

home. Before her election as president Mrs. Rankin had served as secretary of promotion for four years. Mrs.
Lewis was treasurer of the group before becoming president.
