Held in Methodist Church
Gold Hill An event of Sunday, May 8, was the wedding of
Miss Doris Jane Travis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold A.
Travis, 1246 Second avenue, Gold Hill, to Marvin A. Jacobsen. The
bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Arthur Robson, Vancouver, B.C., and
Arnold P. Jacobsen, Klamath Falls.
The ceremony was read at 3
o'clock in the afternoon by Dr.
Raymond Balcomb at First
Methodist church, Medf ord.
About 125 guests attended.
Miss Diane Travis, sister of
the bride, and Mrs. Carl Burk
were honor attendants. Brides
maids were the Misses Virginia
Larson and Carol Wikstrom.
Bert Wenner was best man
and ushers were Dr. Paul Dix,
Carl Burk and Kenny Owens.
Mr. Travis gave his daughter

eline was fashioned with a full
klrt worn over net and satin
dged In lace, and the bodice
wai made with a net yoke with
lace trim. Her fingertip length
veil was held by a . juliet cap
and she carried a bouquet of
pink rosebuds and stephanotls
with a white orchid,.
The maid-of-honor wore a
f own of pink nylon and tulle in
princess design and her flowers
were blue Ester Reed daisies.
The matron of honor and the
bridesmaids wore matching
gowns of blue nylon and tulle
and they carried yellow Ester
Reed daisies. Their headdresses
were of tulle and daisies.
Decorations were baskets of
mixed pastel gladiolus, iris, stock
and daisies arranged with can
delabra. Mrs. Greg MacDougall
tang and Mrs. Charles Adamson
was the organist.
The reception was held at the
church. In charge of the guest
book was Mrs. Burnath Morgan.
Mrs. Wilbur Howell cut the cake
with Miss Rowena Funston as
sisting. Serving the punch was
Mrs. Kenneth Owens and Mrs.
Earl Moore poured coffee.
For the occasion the bride's
mother wore a rose lace dress
with white accessories and the
bridegroom's mother was dress
ed in a nylon dress of pastel
shades and her accessories were
white. Both wore lavender
orchid corsages.
The couple made their trip
through the California redwoods
to San Francisco.
The bride attended Scappoose
Union High school; Canoga Park
High school in California and
Santa Monica City college. She
hag been employed as a book
keeper at the offices of O.' P.
Taylor, certified public accoun
tant. The bridegroom, who attended
Klamath Union High school, is a
machinist at the Kliever Machine
shop. .
Out-of-town guests included
Mrs. Nellie Pomeroy, grand
mother of the bride, from Los
Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
Jacobsen and family of Yakima,
Wash., and Mr. and Mrs. H. N.
McMahon, Klamath Falls. Eu
gene Jacobsen is a brother of the
bridegroom.

Election by Slim Vote
Fresno, Calif. Bob Hall,
Medford, missed being elected
Fresno State college student
body president by 55 votes last
week.
Hall, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
H. Raymond Hall, 19 Highland
dr., polled 663 votes to 718 for
the winner, Newman Black,
Fresno.
An interfraternity rivalry fig
ured prominently in the voting.
Hall is treasurer of the Sigma
Alpha Epsilon chapter at Fresno
State. j
Hall is the junior class presi- j
dent and is majoring in ac-j
counting.

Told Last Week
At Cocktail Party
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Huvinen
last week announced the engage
ment and approaching marriage
of their daughter, Miss Barbara
Lee Niesen, to Francis Jordan
Rhodes, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.
M. Rhodes, 1216 East Ninth
street.
The announcement was made
at a cocktail party Saturday
evening at the Huvinen home on
Roberts road.
A large replica of a solitaire
diamond ring encircling a pic
ture of the betrothed couple
served as a centerpiece decora
tion. The wedding is set for mid
June at First Methodist church.
At the cocktail party were Mr.
and Mrs. Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs.
John Card, Mr. and Mrs. Her
man Marrs, Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Gregory, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Shores. Mr. and Mrs.

Sorority Holds
Model Meeting
Alpha Lambda chapter of Ep
silon Sigma Alpha sorority held
a model meeting May 9 at the
home of Miss Frances Thrun, 121
Kenwood street.
The meeting was conducted
by the president, Mrs. Charles
Jones, who gave a resume of her
responsibilities in this office.
The other chapter officers brief
ly described their duties, includ
ing vice-president, Mrs. Chester
Jines; secretary, Mrs. Howard
Phillips; treasurer, Miss Dolores
Lee; ways and means chairman,
Mrs. Chester Peterson; and pub
licity chairman, Mrs. Robert
Barbee.
Entertainment for the eve
ning was furnished by Mrs.
Henry Davis, who displayed her
unique collection of dolls and
explained the technique used in
making dolls.
A wedding gift was presented
to Mrs. Norman Oberst, who was
formerly Mrs. Shirlee Brown.
She was also presnted a corsage
in honor of the event.
Refreshments were served by
the hostess and a social hour
was held.

Jack Sanders, Warren Scott

The next meeting of the soror
ity will be election of officers
for the coming year and will be
held May 23 at the home of Mrs.

W. Jackson announce the en
gagement of their daughter, Miss
Barbara Lucille Jackson, to Jo
seph Howard Layton, son of Mrs.
R. M. Crawford, Virginia Beach,
Va.
Miss Jackson is a senior at
Eagle Point high school. Mr.
Layton is a graduate of Salinas
High school in California. He
has recently completed a four
year tour of Navy duty in Korea,
and now is employed in the log
ging contracting business in the
Coos Bay area.
The couple has set no wedding
date.
The bride-elect recently was
initiated into the National Honor
Society pf Oregon.

Rites to Be Held
In California City
Mrs. Gilbert Isbell, San Jose,
Calif., announces the engagement
of her daughter, Miss Marlene
Isbell, to John Heberling, son of
Mrs. Mary Heberling. Central
Point. The wedding is set for
May 30 at San Jose.
Miss Isbell is a graduate of
San Jose High school and is a
junior at San Jose Bible college.
Her fiance will be graduated
from the college on May 27. He
is a 1951 graduate of Central
Point High school.
The bridegroom-elect's mother
plans to be in San Jose to attend
graduation exercises at the col
lege, and the wedding.
Announce Dates
For Opera Season
San Francisco (U.R) The
San Francisco Opera association
has announced its 1955 season
will include 41 performances to
be given in San Francisco, Los
Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento,
Pasadena and Fresno.
Kurt Herbert Adler, artistic
director of the group, said 16
performances will be given in
Southern California.
The San Francisco season will
open September 15 and close
October 20, the director said.

Casey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L.

the bride-elect's mother, Mrs.
Louise Rutherford, 103 Genes
see street.
Miss Rutherford is a student
at Medford Senior high school,
and Mr. Casey was graduated
from the same school in 1953.
He has served as a mechanic in
the Marine corps and is now at
tending Robertson School of
Business.
No date has been set for the
wedding.

esses May 9 at a lingerie shower
honoring Miss Eleanor Davis.
The members of the Senior Tri-Hi-Y
were guests and he event
was held at the home of Miss
Mercer, 948 Kenyon avenue.
Miss Davis is bride - elect of
Gary Pree. Their wedding Is
planned for July 3 at First
Methodist church.
The honored guest was pre
sented gifts and refreshments
were served.

Shower Honors
Academy Teacher
Miss Feme Anliker, whose
wedding to Eugene Costley of
Coos Bay is set for June 19, was
honored at a bridal shower by
friends at Rogue River Academy
May 10. The affair was planned
as a surprise.
A program of music and read
ings preceded the opening of the
many gifts. A special gift of an
electric mixer was given Miss
Anliker by the elementary
pupils in her room.

To Become Bride
Of Fred F. Young
Announcement is made of the
engagement and approaching
marriage of Miss Doris Jean
Kepley to Fred F. Young. The
bride-elect, who came here re
cently from Detroit, Mich., is a
daughter of Mrs. Clyde Minger,
781 Marshall avenue, and her
fiance is a son of Mp. and Mrs.
Ray Young. 113 Tripp street.
The wedding will be in June.
Mr. Young was recently re
leased from the United States
Army, and he is a veteran of
service in Korea. He was born
and rear?d in Medford.
