EIGHT MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Thursday. Mar 12' 1955 Oil The Side By E. V. Durling (Distributed by King Faatum Syndicate, Inc.) Beware of her blonde hair for sh excels All women in the mafie of her locks. And when she winds them ronnd a younf man's neck She will not ever set him free again. Goethe. Who was Hamilton E. Smith? If your wife cannot answer that query she should blush a long, long blush for her ignorance. Hamilton E. Smith invented the washing machine in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1859. There should be a monument to this genius. Too many kindly and considerate in ventors, who have been great benefactors of the female sex by making housework easier, are now forgotten men. Asking Queries from clients. Q. Was Clara Bow just an extra or a member of the cast in the silent film classic titled "Down to the Sea In Ships?" A. Clara was a member of the cast of that pic ture, which was produced about 33 years ago. She played the part of "Dot" Morgan, described in the program as "a wild child born of the sea." ... Q. A fly ball hits the first baseman on the head, bounces in the air, and the second baseman catches it before it touches the ground, What would be your decision on .this play? A. Batter is out. Sec ond baseman gets a put-out. First baseman an assists. Wedding Rings Inscription on the wedding ring of Mrs. James Stewart, wife of the conscientiously noncha lant film star, is "Gloria and Jimmy 8-9-49," indicating, of course, they were married Aug ust 8, 1949." This brings to mind the inscription on the wedding ring of Mrs. William Jennings Bryan, which was "Won 1880 One 1884," meaning they be came engaged in 1880 and were married four years later. Both these inscriptions sound toe sta tistical to me. Are lacking in the romantic angle. A wedding ring inscription I like is "Esto perpetua," meaning "May it last forever." Sidelights When a woman has a prefer ence for an extra long cigaret holder, it indicates she is suffer ing from a sense of inferiority. Or, so say the psychologists . . . Do you consider yourself a well informed fellow? If so, tell us quick as half a flash what is ' the difference between a misoga mist and a misogynist? 1 Among the Married Do you like carrots, spinach or broccoli? These are valuable vitamin packed vegetables. Also carrots are clatmed to improve the eyesight. If you ate more carrots, sir, you could hole out more long putts and see blondes better. It is said by dietitians the reason so many men don't like the vegetables aforemen tioned as because their wives don't know how to cook them. So, if you don't like carrots, spinach or broccoli, perhaps you should send your wife to cook ing school. Passing By Lili St. Cyr. Harold Minsky's energetic sister-in-law. Lili, who is a very daring danseuse, is the top salaried performer in her particular field . . . Brian Don levy. Specialist in film and tele vision portrayals of hard-boiled guys with soft hearts. Brian was born in the country Armagh, Ireland, but brought to this country as a child and reared in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. Briefly Men born under Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) are tough bosses. Are sticklers for detail and very critical. The office wife of a Scorpio executive has to stand for a lot of nagging. Or, so say the star gazers. . . New York is a windier city than Chicago. And the windiest corner in New York is the southeast corner of Fifty-ninth Street and Fifth Avenue. Rogers, 847 Pennsylvania ave., Medford. Scelba Turns Reins Over To New President Rome U.R) Premier Mario Scelba submits the resignation of his middle-of-the-road govern, ment today to his bitter oppon ent, new President Giovanni Gronchi, in a formality which could turn into a political crisis. Most observers expected Gron chi to reject the resignation and thus avoid the crisis until after the important elections in Sicily June 5. But there was still no" certainty of what ; will happen when Scelba drives to the Quiri nale palace this evening to sub mit his resignation as a formal ity to the new president.
