Consideration of Tvjo-China Ex-Troubleshooter Would Recognize Communist Claim Washington (U.FO Arthur Dean, a former Eisenhower ad ministration troubleshooter, has suggested that the United States consider a "two China" policy. It would give diplomatic re cognition to Communist China and, at the same time, maintain that Nationalist China has a valid and permanent title to Formosa. Such consideration would be contingent on a guaranted cease fire between Communist and Na tionalist China. The policy also would consider admission of Red China to the United Nations if this could be done without appeasement and on some "effective basis for a lasting peace." Dean also commented on a possible all-out war between the two Chinese governments. He said Nationalist China could not invade the mainland without "very sizeable and continuing American military s u p p o r t." This aid, he added, could set off a total war in which the United States itself would risk under going a "havoc-wreaking" nu clearl weapons attack delivered either by Soviet Russia or by Red China using Russian nu clear weapons. On the other hand, a stale mate war "would be a clear in vitation" for the Reds "to invade the militarily weak and econo mically rich countries of South east Asia, stymie India, break the Korea armistice, attack Ja pan and threaten her with annihilation If she permitted us to use our bases there to launch attacks." Britain Payors View Dean's views on China policy, outlined in the current issue of Foreign Affairs, a private quar terly magazine, have created considerable discussion in offi cial quarters. Dean is a former law partner of Secretary of State John Foster Dulles in the New York firm of Sullivan and Cromwell. He represented the United States and 16 other U.N. Allies In 1953-54 in negotiations on Korean political problems. Dean has not had any official con nection with the administration, however, for almost a year. Britain has supported the "'two China" approach to the Far Eastern crisis. The Eisenhower administration has steered clear of direct public comment on the issue, resting its support on the Nationalist government of Gen eralissimo Chiang Kai-shek. Chi ang's government has rejected the idea of two Chinas. Dean flatly rejected alterna tive proposals to abandon For mosa to the Chinese Reds or to ignore Red China as an "out law." GRANGE Roxy Ann Grange James Poole and Marion Poole were given first and second de grees by state deputy Roscoe Roberts at the meeting of Roxy Ann Grange. H.E.C. wifrmeet at the Grange hall April 13 at 1 o'clock with Willetta Sims and Doreen Win kleman as hostesses. HEC chair man Margaret Shaw announced we will donate to the National Grange to help them remodel Grange for library, also to help the Juvenile Grange. She asked the ladies of the Grange to save their discarded nylons and bring them to the Grange hall. There will be a baked food, plant and rummage sale Thurs day, April 14. Grange open at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served. Grangers are reminded that Saturday, April 9, is pot luck and cards, starting at 8 p.m. Dance Chairman Ken Shaw announced a dance for April 16, also that the dance committee had changed the regular dance nights to the first and third Saturday of each month. Bus drivers went on strike against the Atlantic Greyhound HS Girls Working The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce this week began a plan under which senior girls from Medford High school will work in the chamber office each afternoon for a week, gaining experience in office procedure. The plan, worked out in co operation with the commercial department at the school, will offer a number of girls one week of office experience before grad uation, and will also help the chamber to get many routine office chores accomplished. Duties to be performed by the girls include typing, mineo graphing, waiting on customers, filing, and others. At the end of each week, Don McNeil, chamber manager, and his two regular girls will work out an evaluation of the work done by the high school girl on duty that week.
