TWO MEDFOF.D (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, April 8. 1953 .Large Sum Netted by Lily Sale The Lily day parade, held on downtown streets last Saturday, added $469 to the annual fund raising drive of the Oregon So ciety for Crippled Children and Adults. The lilies were sold by 60 sophomore girls from Med- ford Senior High school, under the supervision of Mrs. Ryder Berg. Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority was in charge of the event with Mrs. Chester Peterson acting as chairman. Those assisting Mrs. Peterson were Mrs. Roy Howe, Mrs. Russell Roseborough, Mrs. Howard Phillips, Mrs. Fred Stammen, Mrs. Robert Barbee, Mrs. Charles Jones, Mrs. Lyman Smith, Mrs. Shirlee Brown, Mrs. William Raymond, Mrs. R. B. Webber, Mrs. Willard Hunter and Mrs. W. H. Seibert. The girls were served refresh ments at the end of the sale and were presented certificates of appreciation. Mrs. Peterson wishes to thank all those who worked on this project, including the Medford Business college which handled all the mimeographing. "It is gratifying to know some handi capped child will be helped by the proceeds of the lily sale," Mrs. Peterson stated. County receipts' now total $2654.52, according to Archie C. Fries Jr. county treasurer. As this is the final week of the cam paign, Mr. Fries urges everyone who has not already sent in a contribution to do so at once. It should be marled to him in care of the United States Bank, Medford. Verna Cingcade To Speak Monday At Guild Session Miss Verna Cingcade, who teaches Bible history in the Med ford public schools. will present the program at a meeting of Westminster guild Monday, April 11, in the fireplace room of First Presbyterian church. Miss Cingcade will give a flan nelgraph demonstration. Mis Frances Thrun will sing. Refreshments will be served at 7:45 p.m., with the program to follow. Meeting Announced For Women's Guild Women's guild of Zion Luther an church will meet Tuesday April 12, at 8 p.m. in the social room, having postponed the meetins one week due to Holy Week. Concert Planned Saturday As Music Festival Climax . Climaxing the Southern Oregon Music Educators contest festival,, which opened here yesterday, will be the grand festival concert Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in Medford High school gym nasium. At that time selected musicians from the schools attend ing the three-day music meet will perform in the large festival groups. The 12-piece festival orchestra will be directed by John O'Con nor, conductor from the Uni versity of Oregon. The 180 voice choir will be directed by Karl Ernst, director of fine arts at San Jose State college and Clarence Sawhill, band instruc tor from the University of Cali fornia at Los Angeles will con duct the 198-piece band. The orchestra will play "Temptation" arranged by Isaac; "In the Hall of The Moun tain King" from Grieg's "Peer Gynt" suite and the first move ment of Haydn's "Symphony No. 2." The chorus numbers will be "Misereri Mei" by Lotti; "Night fall in Skye" by Robertson; "Hard by the Fountain," by Waelrant; "Skip to my Lou" ar ranged by Riegger and "Sing and Rejoice" by James. The band's four numbers will be "Nutmeggers March" by Osterling; "Alleluia and Chor ale" by Hansen; "Kin" by Frang- Bridge Players Meet Wednesday Nine tables of players partici pated for the weekly meeting of Riverside Bridge club Wednes day afternoon. ..Heading the list of north-south winners were Mrs. H. J. Boyd and Roy Pruitt with 125 points and second went to Mrs. Clay Cornett and William Isaacs for 115V2 points. Mrs. Richard Mile stone and Al Gilhousen were third with 114Vi points and fourth went to Mrs. M. M. Her man and Mrs. Van Gilbert, HOVi points. Mrs. F. R. Baker and Mrs. Gil housen scored 133 points to lead east-west winners. Mrs. George Choate and Tom Munds, Mrs. Ben Todd and Mrs. Fred Purdin tied for second and third places, each pair scoring 125 points. Mrs. O. O. Master Points Won by Players Master points were awarded to players who held high scores for this week's meeting of Med ford Duplicate Bridge club. For ty players competed. Two pairs of players, Mrs. Fred Rehling and Tom Munds. Mrs. Frank Baker and Roy Pruitt, tied for first and second in the north-south playing posi tions. Both couples scored 118 points. Mrs. Margaret Alcorn ,and Mrs. William Kennedy were third with 113 points, and fourth was taken by Mrs. Ben Todd and Dr. George Dean, who scored 93 Vz points. East-west winners were H. J. Boyd and B. L. Sanderson, 102 points; the George Rodes, sec ond, 89Vz points; Mrs. C. L. How ard and Raymond Wise, 88 points; Mrs. Al Gilhousen and William Isaacs, fourth, 85V2 points. Mrs. William Isaacs and Mrs. Roy Pruitt were hostesses for the evening. The club is making plans for the annual individual tourna ment Saturday and Sunday, April 23-24 at the Medford ho tel.
