1 1 : Training Maneuvers Due on West Coast San Francisco (U.R) Joint Army-Navy training maneuvers using more than 50 ships and a 6000-man regimental combat team will be held on the Pac ific coast March 14-30, it was announced today. i Officers directing the combin ed operation said it will include amphibious assault landings, anti-submarine warfare, harbor, mine and air defense for the s ships. s Li. -Gen. BUCKET' HELPS MOD Russ Jamison, originator of the "Bucket of Bucks" in the county March) of Dimes drive, said today he had turned over $287.22 to the polio fund. The money was raised by contribu tions received by Jamison's pro gram on radio station KMED and from a "Bucket of Bucks" dance. Jamison said it was the largest amount his project ever had collected. ; : -"- Sailors Break Up China War Protest Portland (U.R) Seven sign-carrying young people, pro testing U.S. "intervention" in the Far East, had their meeting in front of the downtown U.S. Recruiting service broken up Saturday afternoon by sailors who tore up the signs. That was the only violence, however. The seven, identifying themselves only as college stu dents, said they weren't object ing to the draft or military ser vice. "We just chose the recruit ing office because it is symbol ic of our military intervention in the Far East. The signs read "Formosa Means War," "Bring Back the Seventh Fleet," and "Keep Out of China's Civil War." Alabama, Georgia Warned of Floods By UNITED PRESS Flood warnings were issued for parts of Alabama and Geor gia today as cold rains pounded much of the Deep South. The Southland was soaked by rains that measured nine inches deep at Pensacola, Fla., yester day ( and sent floodwaters pour ing into the city's streets and low-lying areas. Many Southern rivers swirled dangerously towards flood stage today as the rains continued. Elsewhere in the nation, heavy snow warnings were issued for Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine and the mercury plumet ed to 14 below zero at Grants burg, Wis. Ike Asked To Ponder Airlines Decision Washington (U.R) The state of -Washington's congressional delegation asked President Eis aenhower today to reconsider a decision, allocating, routes for airlines serving the Northwest and the Pacific. Sen. Warren G. Magnuson (D. Wash.) said a letter had been sent to the President by the Washington delegation. The letter asked the President "to reconsider his decision to award to the Pan American Air lines the route from Seattle to Hawaii and take it away from j Northwest Airlines which has been serving the area." Rogue River Rogue River Larry Shee han has been elected chairman of the Jackson County Demo cratic Control committee. He is local committeeman and has been active in Democratic work for years. Mrs. R. C. Cummings of Keno is spending some time at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mae Shults while her mother is con fined to the Josephine general hospital. Other Rogue River people in the hospital are John ny Branamun, Earl Young and Jack Hogan. The March of Dimes dinner given in the VFW hall Thursday night was well attended and a huge success raising around $400. A very pleasant evening was enjoyed at the Rollin Taylor home recently on Evans Creek road.
