Erin Merkel, Jackson county public health officer, will speak for sc meeting of Dis trict 4, Oregon State Nurses' association, set for Tuesday, February 8. at 8 p.m. in Sacred Heart hospital. The nurses will meet in the hospital's medical library in the new wing, and this will be the first time the group has met in these quarters. Dr. Merkel's topic will be "In fectious Hepatitis." . All registered nurses, whether members of OSNA or not, are invited to attend. Society President Talks for Meeting In Central Point Mrs. John Hoist, Gold Hill, spoke at a meeting of Central Point Garden club held Fet ruary '2 at the home of Mrs. Don Faber. Mrs. Hoist is president of Rogue Valley Herb society.. Mrs. Hoist, assisted by1 Mrs. N. Vanderlip, spoke on and dis played a large variety of herbs. She -told how to .use herbs in cooking. ' . - Guests introduced at the meet ing were Mrs. M. Heckenburger, Mrs. Alice Launer, Mrs. Chester Ashton, Miss Minnie White, Mrs. E. C. Faber - and Mrs. Fannie Grant. ? Hostess Sonja Henie took over Ciro's nightclub, set up a replica of a circus and invited 350 movietown celebrities to arrive as stars of the big top. NEW Utilities SERVICE Monday, February 7. 1955 three and - a - half ton hip popotamus, who sat with a bored expression1 outside the front door; and several ponies and dogs who performed in the one-ring floor show. Outside the cages were such three-ring attractions as Zsa Zsa, dressed as Vampira, the local television siren, in a stringy black wig and tattered dress; June in rags and a hat with a stuffed bird perched on top; Mrs. Mason in a black goatee, and Peggy Lee" as a tattooed lady. Other guests at the $15,000 af fair, Hollywood's first big cos tume party in marly years, in cluded Judy Garland, Lana Tur ner, Lex Barker, Bob Cum mings, Cary Grant, Joan Craw ford, Jeanne Crain, Susan Hay ward, Esther Williams, Van Hef lin and Johnnie Ray. Two hundred of the cocktail party guests were invited to stay to a sit-down dinner with place cards. First, the guests sampled caviar and champagne at a buf fet table decorated with clowns carved from ice. Circus banners advertised "The Spider Lady," and The Snake Charmer," while posters proclaimed Jhe wonders of "Sonja Heme's Cir cus." After cocktails, a curtain, that cut off the main room was pull ed open and the guests marched in to eat dinner under a real circus tent. Aerialists swinging from their teeth on trapezes and ponies and dogs provided enter tainment while the guests ate turtle soup, filet mignon and baked Alaska. Tiny merry go rounds decorated each table. "I wanted to have other ani mals but they smell," explained Miss Henie; Even the press was required to wear costumes for the party. I shivered in a brief zebra lady costume, courtesy of Zsa Zsa, who wore it in a Martin and Lewis circus movie. Exchange of Gifts Planned by Troop The Ladies Mounted troop, auxiliary to the Jackson County Mounted Sheriff's nosse . will conduct a "white elephant" ex change during a meeting of the troop Tuesday, February 8 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the posse club house. Refreshments will be served by Mrs. W. M. Lemmon, Mrs. Gordon Koehler, and Mrs. Sam Kime. Mrs. Clarence Dodge, troop captain, will preside for the business meeting. Session Planned By Mothers' Club; Show Announced . West Side Mothers' club will hold' the February meeting at the home of Mrs. L. E. Edmonds, Ross lane, Wednesday, February 9, at 8 p.m. - A brief talk will be given by Miss Mary Vandenburg of the Southern Oregon Child Guid ance clinic. The January meeting of the club was held at the West Side school. Games followed the busi ness meeting. Mrs. J. R. Arens pre sided and roll call was answered by reading articles on savings bonds and economy. Mrs. William Harper was wel comed back after an absence for illness. . The finance committee, Mrs. Ed Meyers, collected voluntary donations for the treasury and a surprise kitchen package was sold to Mrs. Kathreen Wells. Mrs. John Davidson displayed a line of all-occasion cards and unit members . agreed to buy these as a treasury project. Mrs. Davidson also gave a de tailed report on Associated Country Women of the World on an international day theme. A picture-slide study of Ger many will be made in the future. The unit plans to sponsor an Antelope-Lake Creek area boy for 4-H sumirler camp. Mrs. Leland Charlie spoke on tooth decay research and Miss Margaret Pool read an article on health and childhood diseases. Mrs. Charlie, citizenship chair m a n, reminded members to study the legislation coming be fore the present session of the Oregon legislature. The lesson for the day was given by Miss Eula Wintermote, county agent, and was on "Good Weight for Good Health." Many questions were asked. Luncheon was served by the ' hostess. The March meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. Grace Marshall, Brownsboro. Health and Weight Topic for Meeting Of Extension Unit Butte Falls Butte Falls Home Extension unit members : wel comed two guests, Mrs. Leonard Richman and Mrs. James Jack, at a meeting at the home of Mrs. Clyde Moore February 3. Two former members were also,pres ent, Mrs. John Henshaw and Mrs. Leslie Casey. Miss Eula Wintermote pre sented a lesson on health and weight. Using -the luncheon as the basis of calorie study, mem bers learned how to adjust f am' ily meals for gaining or redue ing weight. They learned also how to increase calories for growing children and working husbands. Using tape measures on each other, members listed facts about their own figure proportions for future consider ation. In May they will do some rechecking. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Leslie Casey, March 3 and, will be a morning demonstration lesson on the sub ject of "Vegetables, Nutritious, Attractive and Delicious." Mrs. Roy Price and Mrs. John Fuiten will be the leaders. Couple Here Col. and Mrs. Harold A.
