I contend there is in. sufficient evidence to prove that tonsillectomy is necessary, ex cept in rare instances of malig nancy.. Tonsillotomy is the meth- oa ox cnoice zor enlarged tonsils in children. , .:V:v: ; .:- . Tonsillotomy means sninnincr off the enlarged or obstructing portion of tonsil with the snick ersnee or guillotine ring' blade called the tonsillotome. It is a minor operation, instantaneous, as painful, and as dangerous as extracting a tooth. Like extrac tion oi a tooth it may be done under general anesthesia ' local anesthesia or none, in the doc- i Stf . ror s oince or tne patient's nome. Tonsillectomv means extensive dissection of the throat in the attempt to remove every bit of tonsil tissue or, trying to "get all the tonsil" as though tonsil tis sue were in itself harmful. Tonsillectomy is a major oper ation involving serious hazards to uie in every instance. The doctor who misrepresents the facts in order to persuade parents to consent gambles with the lives of children whose tonsils are enlarged. as children's ton- sus are liKeiy to be in the winter and spring.
