The young man, a private in the Marine corps, went into the service last June, took his basic training at San Diego and then completed 14 weeks of a course in airplane structural mechanics at the Naval Air Technical Training center, Jacksonville, Fla..He will report Jan. 5 at Memphis, Tenn., for another 14 weeks of instruction. Roberts, 124 Chestnut st. -. Fire Alarms A bed and bed ding at the Joy O. Rock resi dence, 123 Chestnut st., were burned and smoke damage , was caused yesterday evening, after the bedding was ignited when the bed was pushed too close to a wall heater, firemen report ed. Pumpers from the main and west side stations were called at about 6:50 p.m. Earlier, a pumper was sent to the ,400 block of East Main st. to investi gate the cause of smoke. No fire was found, and firemen said the smoke apparently was caused by a recently-stoked furnace. The unique organization re cently received nation-wide pub licity through a feature story about it, carried on the wires of the Associated Press.' It was published in papers throughout the nation and told of history and progress of the organization. rMcCarthyismr Seen Minor Issue in 1955 Miami-U.PJ Vice President Richard M- Nixon arrived late night for a brief vacation and told reporters that McCarthyism "will be a minor issue in 1955." . Obituaries WILLIAM McINTYRE Funeral services for William B. Mclntyre, 63, of Shady. Cove, who died in Portland Thursday, will be held at Perl funeral home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. D. E. Millard of ficiating. Interment will be in Jacksonville cemetery. The deceased, who was born at Keno, Ore., on June 3, 1891; was a veteran of World War I, serving as a mechanic in Battery E, 69th Artillery, C.A.C., U.S. Army. Survivors include his mother, Lola Mclntyre; a sister, Mrs. J.' S. Sawyer, and two brothers, Joe and Ernest, all of Jackson ville. ERICK GUSTAFSON Erick G. Gustafson, 66, died yesterday at the V. A.
