Lady Lions Plan Santa Claus Visit In Eagle Point Eagle Point Plans for a Com munity Christmas tree and visit from Sana Claus were made at the last meeting of Eagle Point Lady Lions. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Jim Clarke. The community tree is planned for Monday, December 20, at 7 p.m. Santa Claus will distribute candy to the children. A pro , gram, to be given in the Eagle Point .Teenage clubhouse, ,will follow. ; ' Local entertainers will be on the program, and group meet ing of Christmas carols is planned. The public is invited to attend. The Lady Lions meeting was preceded by a potluck dinner. Fourteen members and two guests, Mrs. C. R. Albert and Mrs. Don Pulley, Eagle Point, attended. , 1 . A survey by a Chicago firm showed that the housewife dur- : jng the course of her day's : housework covers nine to 11 miles or about 36 hole of golf on the average course. ; Prentice Studio I Scene of Party Members of the Prentice Ac cordion band gave a - surprise birthday party Wednesday night for two band members, Sharon Roberts and Sharon Thompson. The party was held at the Pren tice studio.' After the two were presented with gifts, refreshments were served by mothers of band mem fbers. Accordion Band ; Plays at Gamp . - j The Prentice Accordion band played the monthly, program at Camp White Monday, night' for members oft he Veterans Ad ministration domiciliary center. Fifty-six young people took part, playing a program of Christmas music. . . ... The programs are given at camp under the sponsorship of Special Services. The luncheon served was planned from the lesson, on appetizing meals from canned, frozen and stored foods, and stressed the importance of the "basic seven" in planning meals. Mrs. Kenneth Dufour and Mrs. Gardener were the project lead ers.' Miss Marianne Moore, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Orie Moore, 1707 Ridgeway, Medford, has been recommended . by Reese Creek Extension unit, to become a member of Azalea house at Oregon State college. Miss Moore is a freshman at the college in honie economics. . New members joining the unit were Mrs. L. L. Dodenhoff and Mrs. D. L. Crandell. . Next meeting will be Jan. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Clifford Moore. The project, "Good Weight for Good Health" will be led by Miss D.TSula Win-termote. Members of Club Will Trim Tree In Jacksonville Jacksonville Members of the 20-80 club of Jacksonville Pres byterian church, , who each year trim the church Christmas tree, will gather at the church Sat urday evening, December 18, for the traditional event. They also will sack treats for the children of the Sunday school. . The evening will open with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.,, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nieder meyer recently elected as joint presidents of the club, will pre side. Mr. and Mrs. George Wendt are the new . secretary treasurer .team. . A gift exchange will be held. - Christmas Music Played for Club Mrs. C. R. Adamson presented a program of Christmas music for the last meeting of College Women's club of the Rogue Riv er valley, held at First Metho dist church. She was assisted by Herbert S. Daniels and the Car oleer singers. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ben Schmidt, Mrs. G. R. Carter, Mrs. Una B. Inch, Mrs. A. G. Pierce and Miss Jane Sne dicor. Mrs. Pierce was responsible for unusual table decorations, which were in pink. The next meeting of the club will be January 8 in Ashland. ' , i . Nativity Scene Opens At Funeral Home Here A scene of the nativity, dis played on the Newtown st. side of the Conger-Morris funeral home here, was set up yesterday. It has been erected each year at the Christmas season since 1946, with a few figures and background pieces added each year. . Four new panels have been added to the background this year. Colored floodlights illuminate the scene at night. The oil paintings were done by Hal E. Bishop, Gold Hill artist. Cardinal Spellman took off on a Northwest Airlines plane which is due to arrive at Seattle at 7:15 p.m. PST and at Anchor age, Alaska, at 1:05 a.m. tomor row.' He will remain there, visit ing troops, until Sunday after noon when he will take off again for Tokyo: ' 7 The prelate said he was tak ing with him 100,000 cigarettes, 30,000 holy pictures, 25,000 rosa ries, medals and other holy arti cles and a quantity of toys for Korean children.
