Temple, 29, of Cleveland, became one of the nation's first S-D Day fatalities when the car he was driving crashed into a 2Vfe -ton tractor-trailer truck on a bridge in Cleveland. Temple, who apparently was driving on the wrong side of the street, was dead when pulled from the wreckage. A Fallon Area Warned It Faces More Earthquakes in Future - : i . Fallon, Nev. (U.R) A Navy geologist warned residents of the Fallon area, jolted this year by three strong earthquakes, that they probably- can expect more tremblors - for some time to come. The geologist, Gladstone Mar chand of San Bruno, Calif., said the appearance of the region around Fallon "indicates a long history of faulting." . The quake was centered in the Fallon area, which suffer ed . extensive damage in two shocks last summer. : , A strone aftershock rocked the San Francisco Bay Area at ll:lO. p.m. for several seconds. Residents of Oakland, along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, . said it was particularly strong. A resident of Hay ward said the temblor "really shook the house." In Pasadena. Dr. Charles T. Richter. head of the seismolniri- cal labratory of the California institute of Technology, said aftershocks from yesterday's quake "will be Dracticallv a dime a dozen." Four-Foot Drop Marchand said the shorts were caused by a four-foot drop or minions oi tons of earth and rock on the east side of the Clan AlDine mountain rane 47 miles east of Fallon. He said the major zone involved was about a mile wide. . He said cracks In the earth, some several feet wide, extend for miles in a north-south direc tion. "I feel sure that Thursday's displacement was more severe than that of last July, he said. '- However, yesterday's quake caused only minor damage be' cause the earth rolled rather than jarred. Seismographs meas ured it at between 6.75 and slightly more than 7 on the Richter scale of 10. (U.R) On the opening day of the pheasant sea son, Art Pasnik, engaging in a collegiate golf match, fired a seven-iron tee shot on the Lan caster Country Club's 13th hole. The whizzing ball killed a pheas ant that had alighted on the green. Pasnik made it a "double birdie" by sinking his putt for a deuce." ANY TAKERS? Providence, R. I. Kiwanian Dames Raise $400 foi Girl Scout Work Medford Kiwanian Dames will present $400.23 for Girl Scout work here as the result of their annual doll project and of ac tivities at the annual luncheon of Kiwanians and Dames Wed nesday at Rogue Valley Country club. The women said that the total includes approximately $26 gained from an auction of five sacks of Klamath potatoes, fines, and other activities at the meeting. The doll and wardrobe went to Jack Edson, father of four youngsters, two of them daugh ters. Mrs. Del B o r g, Kiwanian Dames president, was in charge of the program portion of the joint meeting. Jack Walker con ducted the auction of the pota toes, ' which were obtained by Klamath Falls Kiwanians through chamber of commerce efforts in that community. Doll portion of the program was con ducted by Mrs. Emerson Ander son, doll co-chairman. Entertainment was provided by the senior high school madri gal choir, directed by Allen Lehl. It sang " 'Twas the Night before Christmas," "Now the Holy Child is Born" and "Clem entine." Soloists were David Moore, Macy Overstreet and Lorraine Croucher. Sonja Peter son was pianist. A consolation doll went to Vickie Milnes. The $400.23 represents the major share of funds Kiwanian Dames will present to the Scouts. Proceeds from other ac tivities will swell the total. Woman Robs Bank; Flees in Oregon Car PlacerviUe, Calif. (U.R) A stocky woman in slacks and dark glasses held up the Bank of America for $737 here yes terday and escaped in a car with Oregon plates. The woman, armed with a "stubby" pistol handed a note to teller Jan Shirk reading "give me the cash and keep quiet." . Mrs. Shirk sounded the alarm as the women left and Robert Frazer, another bank employee grabbed her as she raced toward her car. The woman twisted free shouting "Help! Police! This man is annoying me. No trace of the getaway veh icle, a late model station wagon, was found in an afternoon road block in northern California. EOC Young GOPs To Keep Affiliation La Grande (U.R) Eastern Oregon College Young Republi cans will not withdraw from the state group, Arthur Hartgraves, chairman, said today. Hartgraves said "it is our in tent to remain and carry on true Republicanism ' within the fed eration." But he added that the decision did not mean a change in the EOC attitude toward the "high command" of the state fed eration. ' '-.; Controversy between the col lege club, third largest in Ore gon, and the parent state group began when Hartgraves charged that EOC's club was not invited to the state convention. Hartgraves said "we still sin cerely feel that there has been a series of actions between the immediate past officers and the newly-elected officers, tending to turn the Federation into a priv vate club where they can rule unchallenged as spokesmen for all Young Republicans in Ore gon." He announced that plans were being made to hold a conclave of all Young Republicans - east of the Cascades some time in the spring. - Election Ordered for Unlicensed Seamen Washington (U.R) The Na tional Labor Relations Board to day "ordered a union represen tation election among all un licensed West Coast seamen to settle an organizing fight be tween the AFL Seafarers' Union and Harry Bridges' Independent Longshoremen's Union. The board decision, an unani mous one, granted the AFL union's request for a single elec tion among all the 6000 un licensed seamen. The board dis missed Bridges' request for a separate election among stew ards, who make up a large part of the.unlicensed personnel. The election is to decide whether all the unlicensed per sonnel are to be represented by the AFL Seafarers, Bridges' un ion, the National Union of Ma rine Cooks and Stewards, also independent, or no union. 'It is to be held as soon as arrange ments can be made. SO SORRY Tokyo (U.R) Yoshio Namiki, a member of the lower house, apologized today for blasting Japan's new foreign minister. Roseburg Man Dies in Collision With Train Roseburg (U.R) -John Wes ley Scott, 40-year-old lumber employee, was killed instantly yesterday afternoon when Tiis lumber carrier was struck by a freight train, Coroner L.
