TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Annual Holiday Parties ' Planned by League, Clubs With the advent of December, traditional holiday parties begin to brighten the social calendar. Various organizations have sched uled annual events and a number of valley couples are also plan ning large holiday parties. One of the most important and largest of the yearly parties is the Christmas ball of Med ford Junior Service league, set this year for Friday, December 17 at Rogue Valley Country club. Funds from the ball will benefit the kindergarten for hard of hearing children which the league maintains. The kin dergarten is operated at 606 Vic tory street. Mrs. George McGill and Mrs. Allyn Monroe are the cochair men and Mrs. Donald Herried is in charge of invitations. Mrs. Jack Reid heads the decorating committee and Mrs. Monroe also . is planning the evening's menu. In charge of the greeting com mittee is Mrs. Jack Lewis and Mrs. Ralph Hibbs is the chair man of a prize committee. Lively Rogues Dance club will hold the annual Christmas dance Thursday, December 9. Dinner will be served at 7:30 o'clock in the Ashland Elks ballroom. Hosts for the evening will be Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Aldrich. Club members are asked to make their dinner reservations immediately with Mrs. R. K. Rians, telephone 2-9910 evenings, or Mrs. Emerson T. Anderson, 2-2134. Rogue Valley Country club has already made plans for the annual New Year's eve formal dance on Friday, December 31. Reservations may be made after December 7. , ' Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lynch and Mr. and Mrs. George Schuler are co-chairman. . The annual open house of the country club has been set this year for Sunday, . January 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. Miss Conroy Sings With Choralists Oswego As a member of the Marylhurst college Choral ists, Miss Nancy Conroy, fresh man from Medford, will make several public appearances in December. The nine-voice Chor talist group will present a pro gram of carols December 5 for the annual Portland Christmas festival to be held in the Masonic temple. The Festival is a civic affair designed to further the movement "to put Christ back into Christmas." The Choralists repertoire in cludes carols of Denmark, Bur gundy, France, Cornwall, and medieval England, as well as traditional numbers. . . i Besides other Portland appear ances, the Choralists are sched uled , to sing in Oregon City, Oswego, and Milwaukie during the pre-holiday season. Miss Conroy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. McKinley, 1102 West Ninth street In Hawaii Mr. and Mrs. ' Clarence A. Winetrout, who : left here No vember 5, are now guests at the Cocoanut Grove hotel at Hono lulu, Hawaii They sailed on the Lurline and were first registered at the Royal Hawaiian hotel. . Kono pasek returned December 1 from their wedding trip to California and are living at 430 South Fir street. The bride is the former Miss Ardella Joe Shaul. The wedding was performed Novem ber 26 by Dr. F. Carl Truex of First Baptist church.' About 50 guests attended the ceremony, held at 7 p.m. at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Shaul, 2481 Jo-Jack road. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Konopasek, 105 Elk street. Mrs. Calvin Tolman, Willits, Calif., a sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Mrs. Du- ane Konopasek, Klamath Falls, a sister-in-law of the bridegroom, was bridesmatron. Janel Hammer, North Port, Wash., a niece of the bride, was the flower girl. Jerry Hammer, also of North Port, a nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. Serving as best man for his brother was Duane Konopasek. Ushers were Mr. Tolman, Sam Bieroth of Medford, and Elmer Shaul Jr., Grand Ronde, Ore., brothers-in-law and brother of the bride. Mr. Shaul gave his daughter in marriage. Her gown was of lace over satin and was design ed with a high neckline and floorlength skirt. Her fingertip veil was held by a headpiece trimmed with seed pearls. ' The attendants wore ballerina length gowns of aqua blue color and their bouquets were of lav ender and white chrysanthe mums. Mrs. Ike Risseeuw, a sister of the bride from Grand Ronde, was soloist and was candle lighter. The wedding setting was form ed by an arch decorated with ferns and bells with ribbons. Baskets of lavender and white chrysanthemums also were used. About 80 persons attended the reception which was held at the Central Point Grange hall. The bride is a graduate of Willits, Calif., high- school and is employed at Kim's restaurant. The bridegroom was graduated from Niobrara, Neb., high school and is employed by the Pacific Pine Products, Inc. - Leaves ' Mrs. I. ' Gleason-Saari Ceremony Held at Catholic Church Miss DeLores Barbara Saari became the bride of Mervyn Charles Gleason II at rites read November 3.1 by the Rev. Charles J. Scott at Sacred Heart Catholic ceremony was attended by about are Mr. and Mrs. Paavo J. Saari, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Gleason, Central Point, The bride's father escorted her to the altar. Her gown of satin in princess style was made with a long train and she car ried a white orchid on a white Bible. Miss Monte Middlebusher, Sa lem, was the maid of honor and the bridesmatrons and brides maids were Mrs. John Millard, Eagle Point, Miss Mary Seges- senman, Shady Cove, Mrs. Merle Harper, Shady Cove, and Mrs, James Gleason, Central Point, Mrs. Gleason is a sister-in-law of the bridegroom. Jessica Pennington was flow er girl, and John Pennington was ring bearer. James R. Gleason, Central Point, a -brother of the bride groom was best man. The ushers were Charles King, Jack Hughes J Ronald McKenna and ., Robert Messer, all of Medford. Miss Middlebusher and Mrs Millard wore c o r-a 1 colored gowns and the other attendants wore gowns in a nile green shade. All wore headdresses and carried bouquets of chrysan themums in different shades. Mrs. Earl Bigalow, aunt of the bridegroom, gave the recep tion at the Parish hall. About 100 guests attended and decora tions were in fall shades. Those assisting at the recep tion were Mrs. A. E. Reinking, who cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Mary Jane Pennington, who served the punch. Mrs, Warren Hance, Miss Marcia Woodward and Miss Maxine Woodward assisted. Miss Arlene Arnold took charge of the guest book. The bride's family has lived in the Shady Cove vicinity for about 12 years and came here from Wisconsin. , The Gleason family has lived in and around Central Point for many years. The bride formerly was em ployed as a payroll and invoice clerk at Kogap Lumber indus tries. She was graduated in 1949 from Prospect high school. The bridegroom "is a 1948 graduate of St. Marys high school. He is employed by the Cox and Sugg Construction com pany of Medford. Main EST. 1908 Children's Party Set December 18 i At Country Club j The annual Christmas party for children of members of Rogue Valley Country club this year will be held Saturday, De cember 18, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at the club house. Children from the ages of 3 to 7 years are in vited and they are to take with them a wrapped toy marked as to whether it is for a girl or a boy. The toys contributed will be distributed by the Medford Lady Lions to underprivileged chil dren. The entertainment will in clude singing, movies and re freshments. Gifts will be handed out by Santa Claus. Mrs. B. Brandt Bartels and Mrs. Ivan Harrington are in charge. They will be assisted by Mrs. Dick Phair, Mrs. Dennis Gil christ, Mrs. Ralph Thompsen, Mrs. Oscar Halboth, Mrs. Emil Mohr and others. Mounted Troop Luncheon Guests " Mrs. H. B. Murphy, captain of the Ladies Mounted troop,- aux iliary to the Jackson County Mounted Sheriff's posse, enter tained past captains of the group Thursday. Each year at this time the present captain entertains for the past captains. ! The luncheon table was decor ated with a center piece of red carnations, and miniature horses were used as place cards. Six of the 14 past captams attended. In addition to Mrs. Murphy present were Mrs. Mary H. Brown, Mrs. O. D. Martin, Mrs Harry Barneburg, Mrs. Bea Todd, Mrs. Guy Hughes, Mrs, C. Lyall Fidler and Mrs. W. M, Lemmon. Mrs. C. Rease Braley and Mrs. Homer Marx, other past captains who live here, were un able to attend. Three of the for mer captains live elsewhere, They are Mrs. Luola Bengtson, Heppner, Ore., Mrs. Robert Sly, Eugene, and Mrs. Fred Slate, Salinas, Calif. Mrs. Stanley Philips, a former captain, is no longer a member of the troop. . During the next regular meet ing of the troop, Tuesday, Decem ber 4, at the posse club house, the past captains will entertain at dinner, honoring Mrs. Mur phy .and the troop membership Election of officers also will be held that evening. 4 - Rcaines Chapter To Hold Election Reames chapter, Order East ern. Both the Caples are Medford High school graduates. ". The family arrived at Seattle Saturday on the USS General Mann from Tokyo, Japan. He has been serving with the Army in the far East for 31 months and his wife and son have been over seas with him for 19 months. The captain's next station is Ft. Myer, Va., near Washington, D. C. They will visit through the Christmas holidays at Las Vagas, Nev., with his parents. Captain Caples served in World War II and previous to that attended the University of Oregon. Mrs. Caples attended Oregon State college. Except for V2 years after World War II, when he attended The George Washington Univer sity at Washington, D. C, and received a master's degree in secondary education, Captain Caples has served with the Army smce he first was inducted in 1942. Couple to Mark 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George Eads, 128 South Holly street, plan to leave Monday for Sacramento, Calif., where they will visit their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Merryweather. While there the Eads will ob serve their 50th wedding an niversary. Mrs$ Eads, the former Miss Anna Wilson, has lived all her life in this vicinity. The couple was married at the Jackson county courthouse in Jackson ville by the Rev. Mr. Good. Mr. Eads for many years op erated the Eads Transfer com pany here. The couple plans to be in Sacramento for a week. Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Robert K. Nor- ris and Dr. and Mrs. B. L. Lage- son were hosts last evening for a small dinner party given at the Lageson home on Glen Oak court. The party was. one of a number being given by these two couples. His topic will be "What Do the Communists Want?" The speaker was a war cor respondent for New York Herald-Tribune in Moscow, and he has done special assignments in Iran, Iraq, Egypt and Palestine. He is recognized as one of the nation's top authorities on Rus sia, according to advance infor mation regarding him. Mr. Hindus was graduated from Colgate university and did graduate work at Harvard uni versity. He has written numer ous books concerning Russia. Among his writings are "Rus sia and Japan Humanity Up rooted," "Red Bread," "Mother Russia," and "The Cossacks." The meeting Monday will begin at 7 p.m. when dinner will be served at the Ashland Elks lounge. - , . . Travelers Return From Vacation Trip Mrs. Julie Jones, xopsiaes orchards, and Mrs. Edward H. Collins. 140 White Oak road, re turned Friday evening from a vacation trip which they began October 25. They went by way of San Francisco and Chicago, to Miami, Fla., where they traveled by plane to several islands and countries. On their itinerary were Tahiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Virgin islands, Antigua, Martinique, Barbados Grenada and Trinidad.
